At your local Belk store, you can pick up everything from homewares and beauty products to clothes and accessories. And if you’re a big of Belk’s low-cost wares, you can also secure the Belk rewards card and get cash back and other bonuses for showing your loyalty to the brand.
The question is, with so many low-quality store cards on the market, how does the Belk card stack-up to the competition; is it the right card for you and will it save you or cost you money? Read this Belk credit card review to find out.
- Type: Closed-loop store card
- Interest Rate: 25.49% Variable APR
- Credit Card Issuer: Synchrony Bank
- Annual Fee: $0
- Reward Scheme: Varying rates with three loyalty tiers
The Belk rewards credit card has a high APR, charging 25.49% variable. Its perks are also somewhat limited, but there is no annual fee to worry about and if you spend a lot of time and money at Belk or Belk.com, it could be a worthwhile addition to your wallet/purse.
You can apply for a Belk card in your local store. You need a credit score that is at least in the Fair range, which generally means anything above 650 will be accepted and anything above 600 has a chance. You may be refused if your credit history is minimal, but it depends on the user and you will find out when you submit the credit card application.

Belk Reward Dollars
The Belk credit card has a triple-tier rewards program, with varying reward rates paid for all Belk purchases. In the first tier, you will earn 3% cash back on all Belk purchases. Once you spend more than $600 in a single year, you’ll advance to Belk Premier and a rate of 4%; when you spend over $1,500, you’ll become part of Belk Elite and can secure 5% reward points every time you spend.
And that’s not all, as there are a number of additional perks, including:
- Exclusive savings events
- Receipt-free returns
- Birthday coupons
New cardholders can get 1,000 Belk reward points and 20% off their first day purchases, and there is also something known as the Belk Rewards Flex Pay Plan, a type of high-interest finance plan.
Alternatives to the Belk Credit Card
Belk is a good store credit card and its rewards rate is on par with other store credit card offers. However, before you decide whether this card is right for you or not, we want to show you what you can get when you cast the net further afield and focus on open-loop Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express cards, nearly all of which offer more favorable rewards and terms.
Just take a look at this small selection of reward cards. Fair credit won’t pass muster here and you’ll need at least a Good range before you will be accepted, but if you have that score or can make changes to attain it, they’re worth the consideration.

Discover It Miles Credit Card
The Discover It series of credit cards is one of our personal favorites as there is a card to meet every need and every type of consumer. The Discover It Miles is a travel card, and it is one of the best travel cards you will find.
Cardholders can earn an unlimited rate of 1.5x miles for every dollar that they spend. These miles never expire and there are no blackout dates to worry about or annual fees to eat into your returns. These points are rewarded every time you spend money using your card, whether you’re buying plane tickets or groceries, and you’ll also get double miles at the end of your first year, with Discover matching all your first year’s miles.
If you earn 50,000, you’ll get 100,000, which has a worth of around $1,000. If you earn 10,000, you’ll get 20,000. And you don’t have to use the miles on travel purchases as you can also swap them for cash back or use them as statement credit to clear some expenses.
Capital One Venture Credit Card
It’s the little things that make all the difference and it’s the little things that Capital One Venture nails perfectly. Bottom Line: Premier Rewards and More
The Belk store card is not the best card of its kind, but it’s far from the worst. When you compare it to the Amazon Prime Credit Card or one of the cash back credit cards outlined above, it begins to look a little weak. But if you compare it to the average store card, which is nowhere near as generous, it stands out.
As is often the case with these cards, it all comes down to whether or not you shop at Belk and are likely to make large purchases or a lot of smaller purchases. If so, and if you’re confident you can clear your balance in full, it’s definitely worth it. After all, there is no annual fee and while your credit report will take a hit, it will be small and temporary.
Credit score aside, the only downside is the huge interest rate and the risk that you will be forced to pay it on an uncleared balance. If so, no reward points or signup bonus will help you and this can will quickly become a burden.
The question is, how much is that risk worth to you? On the one hand, you could argue that even an annual spend of $500 makes this card worthwhile, considering you’ll still be in the black if you clear your balance.
But that $500 will earn you just $15 for the year, and while free money is free money, it’s also probably not worth the risk or the hassle. If you’re spending $2,000, however, and you’re utilizing the welcome offer and all bonus rewards without overspending just to accumulate rewards points, you could save yourself over $100 throughout the year, and that is worth the extra risk and hassle.
