Today at Groupon you can take an extra 20% off local deals with coupon code TAKE20. This is a great opportunity to give your kids or grandkids an experience gift instead of another toy. (Not that there’s anything wrong with toys, per se, we’re just mindful of the fact that parents and grandparents are sometimes looking for other options.)
And yes, you can usually give a Groupon as a gift. For many of these options, you can send it instantly via e-card, or print a gift envelope and card for later.
Here are some deals I found that might appeal to Twin Cities readers (prices reflect the coupon code TAKE20):
Crayola Experience: $19.98 for admission for two
While the coupon code doesn’t work on this particular Groupon, this is still the. best. deal we’ve seen on general admission to Crayola Experience. Please note that it’s only valid through 12/31/16, so this will be best used quickly (winter break, perhaps?).
Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition: $15.20 for admission for two or $28 for admission for four
Take the whole family to see this limited-time exhibit at the Mall of America. (Please note: Kids 3 and under are free.) You’ll be able to test high-flying hypotheses for yourselves with a dozen interactive experiments and educational activities. Explore more than 100 authentic Mythbusters props in this behind-the-scenes peek at the show.
Pump It Up: $13.60 for four open-jump sessions
Want to give an experience gift instead of more clutter? Pump It Up has three Twin Cities locations, all of which offer open-jump sessions in which kids can bounce and play on their huge inflatables. My kids love playing here during the winter months.
Rainbow Play Systems: $13.30 for four play sessions, valid Monday-Friday
No need to relegate playground play to the warmer months – Rainbow Play Systems in Bloomington opens up their showroom to the public for playtime both during the week and on weekends. Each 2-hour play session normally costs $7 during the week, so this is more than half off. Kids under 17 months old play free.
