Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick ‘n Save Shopping List 4/7 – 4/13/13

This content uses referral links. Read our disclosure policy for more info.

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

If you are new to shopping Double Daze, be sure to read Roundy’s (Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save’s) coupon policy before you get started to understand all the restrictions of their double coupon promotion.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: What other deals did you find this week?

  1. CV says

For the past few weeks, our Sunday Star Tribune newspaper does not have the Rainbow Foods ad. I went to their website to review it that way. You can add things to a shopping list, but it says paper coupons not available in stores. Coupon cannot be printed online. Coupon books are distributed in newspaper circulars.

How do they expect people to shop there when you don't have access to their coupons?

    • debster says

      CV –

I was wondering the same thing. I get the Sunday paper -no ad in mine, and I usually pick up a couple of papers on Saturday, and there has not been Rainbow ads in those either….makes it harder to plan your shopping trip.

      • scat says

I live in St.Paul and get Star Trib delivered and always get the Rainbow insert. Sounds like there is a problem in the Mpls city distribution. You can get the early St.Paul paper on Saturday and I get the Rainbow ad in that one also. You might check out the St.Paul Pioneer Press early additions that you find in Mpls and see if they have the rainbow ad. It's only 50 cents and worth it to get a few more coupons.

  2. Anne says

I really like that you changed the location of the meat deals! I found myself getting bogged down in the meats section when I went through the list. That was not a good thing when it was in the beginning!!!

  3. amy g says

no circular in the edina delivery of the Strib (3rd week of no ad)…. it's a shame, as a result, I have done all my shopping at Cub the last 3 weeks.

    • Melissa says

I live in st michael and i haven't gotten an ad for a month now. I called my Rainbow and they said they are working with corporate on it.

      • mary says

Someone in corp decided the week of Easter to fix the duplication problems with the inserts…they cut too far:>) Oops. They are working on fixing.

  4. EC says

Heads up. I've used the $0.55 Fresh Expr3ess coupon the past two weeks and it has not doubled. This is still a good deal if you like the variety IMO.

  5. jimmy says

2 questions …….. I have been trying to print McCains potatoes for a while now and it says "printed the allowable time" or something …… Does it ever reset and let me print 2 more anytime? AND is there any markings on SS or RP that shows you insert #1 0r 2 ?

PS you can keep printing the Cottontelle coupon with different email :)

  6. says

This is a broken link ~

$1/2 Cheerios Original, Honey Nut Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios, Chocolate Cheerios, Banana Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Burst Cheerios, Fruity Cheerios, Yogurt Burst Cheerios, Dulce de Leche Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch printable

  7. Sarah says

    Thanks for the quick list!

Is there a way to better separate the categories? If I am scrolling down, sometimes I miss the header (where it says coupon book deals for example). Since there are often duplicates in the deals list and the coupon book list, it can get a little confusing to sort out each unique deal. Even having a header such as "Freezer deals – coupon book" would help me figure out where I am in the list, or maybe color-coding each section?

I love this site. Thanks so much for helping me stretch my families budget. I have 8 in my household and every penny counts!

  8. Intchina says

Btw, i don't know if everyone knows This, but if you have multiple coupon books (or multiple ads from the rack in the store that have store coupons), you can use the 'like' coupons over multiple transactions at PnS. 'limit 1' on the store coupon only means 1 per transaction. Just an FYI – my mother in law said a cashier told her only one coupon per account, which, based on my experience, is not true

    • EC says

Technically that is true, but this site promotes ethical coupon use. You can get around the store's limit, but that is breaking the rules set by the store. One extra coupon here and there might not seem to matter, but it is unethical/illegal coupon use that has made it harder for all of us already. Thanks for trying to help though! Limits are tough these days.

      • AsUntoTheLord says

Unethical (depending on your personal ethics/views) YES, but illegal is NOT true. You will not be in violation of any LAW by using 2 coupon booklet coupons. Just clarifying…

      • Jill Pearson says

I use two coupon books all the time, mine and my sisters, because she doesnt use it. I don't think its bad. I don't go around collecting coupon books or anything, but if someones not going too use there's and they offer it to me I use it.

        • Intchina says

EC, I agree with the general premise of ethical couponing, but – like Jill – I would use someone else's coupon book if they are not going to, or I would take a coupon book if somebody left it in an empty shopping cart after taking the coupons they needed. Likewise, if it's a regular weekly sales paper, I don't feel bad using, say, an egg or milk store coupon from a couple of those over separate transactions. I know what you are saying, though – it is hard to draw a line between 'a little more' and 'unethical'. Some food for thought…

  9. Intchina says

I set up a Saving Star account with my Roundy's card, and I am loving it – the savings posted 2 days after shopping. And I was able to get money off items that i bought with coupons!

    • Drew says

Officially I think you are not supposed to use both a paper manu coupon and a Savingstar coupon for the same items, since they are technically both manufacturer coupons.

Unfortunately, the way they have it set up, once you have selected the savingstar coupon, you cant chose to NOT use it if you have a paper coupon that gives a better deal.

So yes, I too have gotten money back on items I used a coupon for.

  10. Tanya says

I work at Rainbow in the twin cities area and we always have coupon books behind the service desk for customers. Not sure which store you shop at and if they all do that though. We keep them behind the desk so customers aren't allowed to take multiple coupon books.

  11. Kris E says

yea, the chicken breasts are on sale again! Makes it easy to hit that 25.00 mark. And since most of the stuff was out of stock last week (I went late my fault) … very happy :)

    • jen says

Is it Rainbow or Pick n save that carry this brand of chix? I went to two copps and neither carried it.

      • AsUntoTheLord says

I think those she's referring to are the 'generic packaged store brand' so they should be at all stores (even if the "brand" they are sourced from varies). Note the chicken breasts on sale for $1.99/lb is NOT the same as the Gold N' Plump chicken on sale. I know that brand is not carried at PNS stores and maybe not Copps either for some. HTH

  12. Joy says

Just talked to Rainbow customer service. They said there has been a policy change. There will no longer be an ad in the newspapers bought at the store. You have to be on a mailing list and you will get one mailed to you. I expressed my displeasure with this and that they should let people know.

    • sarah says

If that's the case-its totally ridiculous. Even if you weren't couponing, how the heck would you plan where to go buy groceries. If that flyer did not get mailed to me. so I did not know what was on sale at rainbow, I would head to cub or to target. Sounds like they would be shooting themselves in the foot for no good reason.

      • Christine says

Sarah, I agree! It's like your getting punished because you don't subscribe to the newspaper. The cost of getting the newspaper is so high now. And they don't offer just the Sunday paper. You have to buy the Saturday and Sunday papers. That's nice that they mail it but when do those people on the mailing list get the ad?

I would think that the sales flyer would be the most important form of advertising a grocery store would do.

        • scat says

I agree that mailing the flyer seems like a poor choice compared to putting it in the newspapers sold in the stores. However, if you keep your eye out you can often get a pretty good deal on home delivery. I got a good deal on the Star a couple of years ago and they just keep renewing it at the same rate. It costs me 50 cents a week for the Sunday paper.

          • sarah says

That is unusual. The norm in my experience with the strib, has a rise in the rate, back to the regular home delivery price, once the introductory period was done. Either ways-my strib did have a copy of the flyer-but the PP did not and none of ones I bought on Saturday did either.

          • scat says

Maybe it depends on where you live. I know that ads are sometimes targeted for certain areas and other areas are not included. For awhile, all the papers I bought in Eagan had flyers, while the papers I bought in town did not. I think notifying the paper when you don't get the flyers would help in the decision as to where they are going to be distributed.

          • Alissa says

Call the Star Tribune and ask for the "STrib Express;" it's free and contains most of the ads and coupons that the Sunday paper does. I'm in Savage and have been getting mine for the last few weeks and the only thing I've noticed that I don't get are the comics and maybe JoAnn and Micheals coupons.

    • AsUntoTheLord says

It may end up coming to you via whatever free weekly advertisers you get too. This is how I got it for a long time.

      • Melissa W. says

We live near the Savage Rainbow and we get the ad on Sat. with the junk mail. Them saying you have to be on a mailing list doesn't mean you have to subscribe to the paper. It probably means you need to be on the Roundy's corporate mailing list.

  13. ck says

Where on the coupon network does it talk about the Cottenelle deal? I'm not seeing it and wondering if it will still be valid for Saturday – an easy way to get to the $25 mark.

    • mary says

It's not on Coupon Network anymore. Sometimes they take the deals down before they've expired. It is valid through 4/21.

  14. Sue says

I don't think you would be able to get 10 Simplait yogurts for free since only 5 coupons will double up to $0.50 each. The other 5 will not double.

  15. EmilyS says

Just wanted to report on the Cottonelle Bath Tissue deal. The register did not print out the $2 off on a future purchase. The Man. Coupon states do not double, though when it rang up it did double. Making each 18 roll pack $5.99 each or $.33 a roll. This was at the Coon Rapids Rainbow. Thanks.

    • sarah says

I had the same problem with the Cottonelle. No $2 cat printed out. Really a bummer because I would have just bought them at CVS.

      • mary says

Sarah and Emily- I just checked on that. It is only for the 12 pk. roll, not the 18 pk. That's why the extra $2 didn't print. I'm so sorry about that, and I removed it from the list. You can always return the product if you are unhappy with the final price. Thanks for commenting so we could correct the error.

        • sarah says

Mary, will they still refund the money, if those two packs counted for the $25 so that the coupons would double? I'm kind of unhappy about this because not only have I lost the two cottonelle Qs, I also lost the chance to double two others that I would have instead. Would have verified this before I made my list, but according to someone up thread the listing is no longer up Catalina.

          • mary says

Sarah – Yeah, you're right that it goofs it up with the doubles. I totally understand that as it has happened to me before too. I'm not sure how they'll handle it but you can try. We try our best to make the list as accurate as possible, but sometimes we make mistakes. :(

  16. EmilyS says

I posted below, but I'll put it here too…after purchasing 2 of the 18 roll cottonelle I did not get a coupon for $2 off a future purchase.

  17. kara says

Did anyone do the Unilever deal today? I bought $15 worth of soap/body wash but no $5 coupon printed on my receipt. I asked Customer Service and they said it was because I has used a manufacturer coupon on one of the products (which would have brought my total below $15)

      • Intchina says

Manufacturer's coupons are also 'payment', so, they were wrong there. and you also gotta watch out for bonus sized items and items with small bonus bottles, etc. – they do not ring up the same, even though they may have the sale tag and cost the same as regular items. I had it happen twice the first week the sale was on, but the service desk gave me back the $5 both times.

  18. Melissa W. says

I believe they are like a store coupon, and cannot be used elsewhere. Commissaries are on military installations and have special promotions and coupons available only to military personal.

  19. Beth says

I bought 2 V8 VFusion juices and received a $1.50 off next purchase catalina coupon! Watch your receipts if you purchased chicken, my chicken thighs did not ring up as sale price, but full price.

  20. Beth says

Also, at my store the Planters Nut-trition spreads were on sale for $1.99, many with $1.00 peel off coupon that doubles making it free!

  21. Melissa says

Watch your store coupons, both the Ice drinks and the Roundys frozen potato coupons did not take off the right amount. i noticed after I bagged my groceries but customer service gave me back the difference.

  22. AmandaB says

has anyone had problems using a giftcard to get to the $25 and having coupons double? Didn't work for me today..yet It has in the past.

Also….using the shelf price to calculate $25 instead of the sale prices didn't work either….any ideas? (Oshkosh)

    • Deb says

I have heard that Rainbow giftcards no longer work to meet the threshold. I have bought gas cards and they have always worked to make my coupons double. Shelf price worked for me last week. Sorry it didn't work for you. Can't imagine why.

      • AmandaB says

Thanks Deb. I think I calculated the shelf price wrong….went back tried it again and it went fine. The cashier said the PNS giftcards no longer work…they have updated the system..but the gas cards did :)

  23. AmandaB says

troubles today at PNS in Oshkosh…using a giftcard to get to $25 didn't work, and neither did calculating by shelf price instead of sale price….anyone else have this problem?

  24. Jill Pearson says

i went to the new brighton rainbow fist 2 transactions were fine, then second trip lady told me they wont double, I said ok, and she calls someone over and they wouldn't double them, so i said i didn't want it and left. That's what I get for trying a different rainbow lol

    • Theresa says

Jill – Where is this new brighton rainbow? I live in New Brighton. I don't think there is one around! Thanks.

  25. Jill Pearson says

I think it's considered new brighton. 1540 New Brighton Rd i guess it's considered to be minneapolis. That ones so nice because there big, and actually have things in stock, but not worth the hassle of the cashiers like that. The other one didn't say boo. idk why that cant just let the machine decide.

  26. GinaG says

The planters peanut butter for $0.98 is that only limit 1 per transaction or per card? I'm planning on completing multiple transactions and didn't know if the card would only be limited to one total. Trying to figure out what coupons to double.

  27. GinaG says

The Planters Peanut Butter for $0.98 (Limit 1). Is that limit 1 per transaction or limit 1 per card. I'm planning on doing multiple transactions and was just trying to plan my shopping trip. If it's only 1 per card, I will need to looking at factoring in doubling the coupon for the $1.99 price.

  28. Terri says

Under zip code 02222 on coupons.com there is a coupon for $1/1 crunchy nut cereal making it free after doubled coupon.

  29. Drew says

People subscribing to newspapers continues to decline. Maybe Roundys has decided that it is not worth the cost to have their ad included in the inserts.

Maybe moving the ad to the weekly junk mailers will let them reach a wider customer base.

One issue for me is that I think I usually get the mailed ad later in the week, so it is less useful if I have already been shopping.

There is always Roundys ad online if you dont have access to a paper copy.

    • Rachel says

Here in Milwaukee, they have had it in the weekly junk mailers for years and just this month switched it from the junk mailer to the wednesday newspaper. No clue what they are trying to do. I prefered it in the junk mailer.

  30. Drew says

Functionally, I think the register keeps track for the transaction only, and the fact that you already purchased 1 is not stored on the card.

If you purchase more than 1 at a time, the secode would ring up as the higher price, but I would not expect a seperate transaction to be a problem.

That doesnt address whether it is "proper etiquette" to do it more than once.

  31. Julie says

Krunchers questions – It is $1.78 so if I double my coupon it would give me $2 off. Or do they adjust the coupon down? Also if I have a catalina that printed from my last shopping trip and it is manufacturer coupon, will those double or are they considered store coupons?

    • Deb says

If it says manufacturer coupon, it should double. The register will double the coupon up to the purchase price.

  32. Michele says

Sarah – in regards to the higher Strib renewal rates, the way I get around that is to not renew my subscription after the promotional period. About a month after (sometimes sooner) I will get a call from an outsourced marketing company offering me an introductory deal to begin a subscription. This might be a bit of "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing" on the Stribs part, but in any case I havent paid more Than $25 a year for the Strib for about 5 years. Last time I renewed I told them I had only cancelled my subscription 2 weeks prior (instead of the 30 days I usually have to wait) and they didn't care, just signed me up for $25/year.

  33. Julie says

Does Pick'n Save pay overage? If i double $1 coupon for Krunchers at $1.78 do they adjust the coupon or pay the overage towards the rest of my order?

    • Gina G says

Pick N Save does not pay overage, so when doubling coupons, the amount doubled will be adjusted down to the amount of the item – $1.78 in this case. If your catalins is $1 it will double to $2 since there isn't a specific item that it is pulling against.

      • Intchina says

This is a little iify when there is a store coupon. Say, an item is 2.29 and you have a $1 coupon. But there is also a store coupin that makes an item $1.78. Would not the manufacturer's coupon double to a full $2 in this case?

  34. Merlene says

I know I have read this here before but I can't remember…does the $4 milk coupon from General Mills take the whole $4 off or just the price of a gallon? Wondering if it would take the $4 off the 2/$5 Roundy's gallons.

    • Mary says

I have found if the cashier scans the milk coupon it will take the full value of the coupon … $4.00. But I have had some cashiers adjust the milk coupon down to the cost of the milk I bought – YMMV

    • Allison says

I used my GM milk coupon the other day along with the roundys 2/$5 milk coupon ..only bought one gallon though. I also used the $1.98 coupon for 18 eggs and walked out of the store paying 48cents for both.

  35. Terri says

I guess my comment didn't post 2 days ago but there is a coupon for $1/1 crunchy nuts cereal making it free after being doubled on coupons.com.

    [comment edited]

  36. says

Drew – That is correct; SavingStar's policy states that those offers should not be combined with manufacturer's coupons:

"Do SavingStar eCoupons stack with in-store discounts or manufacturer’s coupons?

SavingStar eCoupons will work whether or not you combine them with other services’ coupons, but they are not intended to be used this way. Generally, manufacturers state that it is against their policies for shoppers to redeem more than one manufacturer’s coupon for the same purchase. Using in-store coupons in combination with SavingStar eCoupons is not a problem. Using coupons from other services in combination with a SavingStar “One or Many” deal is not a problem.

In the future, we may implement mechanisms to limit the combination of SavingStar eCoupons with other manufacturer coupons."

(But you're also right that you can't remove the offers once they've been added to your card.)

  37. Maria says

I'm confused about the Bellatori coupon, is it actually $1/1 or are cashiers having to manually take off $1.00 due to the coupon text error indicating $1/2?

  38. Kristin says

Darn it, I did the $5 off OYNO for the Dove deodorant last week and paid 75¢ each when it would have been free this week! That's so frustrating!

  39. Mary says

I had problems in PNS today. The cashier wont scan my coupons because i'm below $25. I had to return everything and leave with nothing. :(

  40. luba says

Has anyone seen the back of next week's Roundy's ad? Their Fuelperks program is ending. I wonder if they will replace it with something else?
