Free-After-Rebate vs. Free Downloadable Anti-Virus Software
Often when I talk about a free-after-rebate anti-virus program folks suggest that people use free programs instead. That’s true, there are free anti-virus programs out there. I am personally leery to do that again because years back my computer got hacked into via malware while I was running a free anti-virus program. I thought it protected me the exact same way the paid-for versions do, but it didn’t and I wasn’t techy enough to proactively recognize the difference.
My point: Yes, you can use some combination of free software downloads from Cnet.com. Many people do that and it works wonderfully for them. For me, I decided years ago that I’d pay for anti-virus software since it was expensive to get my computer scrubbed after my malware issue a few years ago. Not worth the stress.
