Cub Foods Shopping List 1/13 – 1/19/13

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

As of April 15, Cub Foods changed their coupon policy. You can read Cub Foods’ new coupon policy, but the most notable change is that they only accept expired coupons up to 30 days past their expiration date.

Remember that this is a starting list of deals for the week. As readers leave comments with bargains they found at their local store or we get emails with deal ideas, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: What other deals did you spot this week?

For the Fast Fixin' BOGO coupon in the coupon book, does Cub allow using a coupon on the free item? I have tried a couple times to use 2 manufactuere coupons for BOGO'S but then told since I was getting one free I could not use the manufacturer coupon on it. I never argued it because I wasn't sure. Anyone know for sure?

  2. Cookie says

I have always been able to use a coupon on both items in a BOGO transaction at Cub Foods. I quickly scanned throught Cubs Coupon policy on their web site and did not see it mentioned but I am pretty sure that it has been stated on this site that this is acceptable.

If anyone knows the regular price of those items and they're a decent deal after the coupons, we can add them to the list.

I bought the Everyday Essentials orange juice last night, for 62 oz half gallon it was $2.79 reg price. I used the $1 off Q so it was $1.79, which sounded ok to me. I haven't check the cereal prices yet but am planning a Cub trip later this week. Hope this helps!

Sally – Unfortunately when we switched coupon databases last year, the database we switched to doesn't allow you to search for expired coupons. We have asked for that feature to be added but it hasn't been done yet (and I don't know if/when it will be).

I recently took up the gluten-free diet and was wondering if anyone shops at Cub for their g.f. items, and if so, how do prices compare with other stores, such as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's that also carry GF groceries? Thanks for any feedback.

  6. Cheri A says

Val, I do not live near a Whole Foods or TJ's, and I shop Valley Natural Foods once or twice a month for gluten-free things (Udi's bread, Udi's pizza, and Tinkyada pasta). It's my experience that they are a little bit higher on these things if we run out, but it's a lot closer to go to Cub than for me to go to the co-op for just one or two things. And I've also discovered that it's worth the higher price to just buy the pizza when I need it from Cub than to have a few sitting in the freezer for her. She tends to make them for snacks, and then they aren't there when the rest of us are having pizza. The Rainbow Foods near me hardly ever has the bread or pizza when I need it, so I stopped even looking there.

    • Val says

Thank you Cheri! I was trying to go gluten free and not "NEED" bread, but I got bread cravings my third week. So I am trying to check out prices on Udi's and such. Much appreciated the advice.

I have a question about the Cub coupon policy. My local Cub has packs of the Huggies Slip Ons on clearance for $8.49. I tried to purchase two packages last night and use internet coupons that had expired within the past week. (One expired Jan 2, one expired Jan 10). The cashier told me that they wouldn't allow expired coupons on clearance items. I've used coupons on Clearance items before without a problem, though I can't remember if they were expired. Has anyone had this experience? I just re-read the Coupon policy that you have on this website, and it doesn't say anything about expired coupons not being allowed on clearance items. In fact, it doesn't address clearance items at all. It was annoying, and they lost my sale because of it.

The cashier tried to tell me that $8.49 was still a good price, which was kind of funny since he was a teenage boy who I doubt has couponing experience and is probably not a frequent purchaser of diapers. LOL. In fact, the after-coupon price of $6.49 is not necessarily any better than you can get at other stores, depending on sales / coupons available.

    • Val says

I don't have specific experience with this, but at Cub I have always been able to use coupons on clearance items, and since they do allow expired coupons it doesn't seem like they wouldn't accept them on clearance items. If they didn't, it would say so in the coupon policy.

  8. Love to save $ says

Does anyone know how big the Hormel Always Tender Pork Combo Packs are running?

The ad has this item listed for $1.29 per lbs.- limit of 1

  9. says

Nancy – Echoing Val, I'm quite certain there hasn't been a policy change. I believe your cashier was just mistaken. If this happens again, you can always ask for a manager or go to customer service for a clarification.

  10. says

I can't find a policy on the spend $50 get $5 off. Is this before manufactures coupons, cub coupons and great deal coupons? I was at cub this am and told 2 different things by 3 employees and wasn't allowed to use the coupon

    • says

Sue – From what I've heard, you need to have $50 AFTER all store coupons ("Great Deal" catalina coupons may be store coupons…I can't remember) but BEFORE manufacturer's coupons.

There is no official written policy on this right now.

  11. Keri says

Where in the Cub coupon policy does it talk about being able to use two man. coupons on a buy 1, get 1 free deal? I have not been able to use a man. coupon on the Free item and would love to point out to the cashier that I should be able to use one for each product.

  12. Barb says

I was not able to use the $5.00 off fifty today. My groceries came to $52.00 and after coupons $47.00. I am liking Cub less and less.

  13. says

Keri – This is not explicitly stated in the coupon policy either way (whether it's accepted or not accepted), so your experience will vary depending on your cashier/manager.
