Election Day Deals and Freebies: Free Blockbuster Rental, Free Fries at White Castle + More

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Update: I learned something today. It is actually illegal for a business to offer a discount or freebie solely to those who voted on a day when federal elections are happening. This article on Politico explains it. If you don’t vote and still want a freebie, then consider printing the article and bringing it along with you to the store.

I just updated this blog post to include a link to an article that explains it is actually illegal for a company to offer freebies to those who vote in a federal election. That to say, if you don't vote and still want the freebies, print the article out and bring it along to the retailer. http://www.politico.com/blogs/under-the-radar/201

Why it piss on everyone's parade there Carrie. Would want anyone to have a little fun. Just another Typical Joyless Woman.

Jeff – It sounds like you are concerned that I informed everyone that giving freebies based on whether or not you voted is illegal. When we put the post together I was clueless that it isn't supposed to happen and when I became informed of it I felt like I should let others know so they can decide whether to participate or not. Plus, those that do not have an "I voted" sticker – whether they abstained from voting or voted early and didn't get a sticker – now have recourse and an ability to participate. I'm sorry that it offended you, Jeff. I hope you are able to enjoy a variety of freebies and deals today. –Carrie

        Oh, Wow.

No doubt! Thanks, Carrie for choosing to inform us Pocketeers when you find out information — regardless of how well perceived that information may be. I wasn't aware of that stipulation so I'm glad to know I could partake even if I haven't yet had a chance to vote.

Jeff is just someone trying to get everyone riled up. Carrie, I think you have the right to delete a comment like that. :)

I had an interesting experience last night. I did the Macaroni Grill $10.00 off promotion. What a disaster. They obviously were not prepared for the volume of orders they would get. I don't know if their corporate office didn't let them know, or if the coupon code got out to more people than they had planned on. I had ordered oneline 3:00 for a 5:30 pickup. There were several of us there who had to wait and wait and wait. I waited the longest – and only for my 2 simplest (sp?) items. 3/5 items were done when I arrived at 5:30. They told me I still needed my pizza done at 5:45. At 6:10 I was told they ran out of pizza dough (while I watched other pizzas go out the door for people with later pick ups), and I had to remind them for the 3rd time I was also missing my . They had a different pizza done, and I confirmed with my son that he would take it. So they told me they would give me that item for free. I pleasantly told them I thought the entire order should be free since I had been waiting 45 minutes and promised several times it would be a few more minutes. I would not have waited that long if I had known they weren't really working on my items. They agreed, so we got our stone cold food for free, and my poor children finally got to eat after 7:00 when I got home after they heated their food up.

Lesson: If you are going to do this, make sure they aren't overwhelmed. And don't pay ahead so you can back out if there are problems – several people there were in that boat.
