Your turn: What fun does your local fire department offer for Fire Prevention Month?
Fire Department Open Houses
October is Fire Prevention Month, so it’s the season for fire department open houses. Each open house offers something different, but most include fire safety information, demonstrations and tours. If your city is particularly exciting, you may get bouncy houses, chili contests, fire truck rides and more.
Happily, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office has put together a document that includes most of the fire department open houses around the state. If you don’t see your community listed, give your city officials a call to see when your local FD offers a community event.
Walker Art Center Free First Saturday
This Saturday, 10/6 is the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday, and this month’s theme is “Glorious Movement.” Along with free admission from 10am-5pm, enjoy dance workshops for kids and a special Scandinavian short film.
Free Lunch Hour Ballet Performances
Saint Paul City Ballet is performing – for free – over the lunch hour for Ballet Tuesdays. The performances take place at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul from noon-1pm on the second Tuesday of the month. This would certainly be a unique way to take a break from the workday. This month’s performance, on 10/9, includes excerpts from the company repertoire.
Free Baby Loves Disco at Mall of America
Have you been to Baby Loves Disco? The events take place around town and let little ones go crazy on the dance floor. This Sunday, 10/7, H&M presents Baby Loves Disco from 1-3pm at the Mall of America, including some awesome beats, snacks, tattoos (I hope they mean temporary) and more. You can pick up free tickets to the event at the Mall of America H&M store (Baby Loves Disco events usually costs $15-20 per person).
