Minneapolis and St. Paul folks get to celebrate kids’ books with Target and music with MacPhail next weekend, check out an entertainment sampler and start cleaning green, all with the latest in local Twin Cities deals.

Your turn: Do you have any tips for those visiting the Target Children’s Book Festival next weekend?

Target Children’s Book Festival
The popular Target Children’s Book Festival is happening Saturday, 9/8, at Hyland Park Reserve in Bloomington. This free event features activities, crafts, author signings and musical performances, all designed to focus on early literacy. This year features an appearance by Olympic Gold-medalist Dominique Moceanu.

For those of you who haven’t attended before, keep in mind that you’ll likely need to park at a lot elsewhere near park property and take a shuttle in. Also keep in mind that you will likely leave weighed down with free Target swag, not to mention all of the books your little ones talked you into buying.

MacPhail Open House
On Saturday, 9/8, MacPhail Center for Music is having an Open House at their Minneapolis location featuring musical performances, sample classes and mini-lessons, and more. The free Open House runs from 9am until 4pm, but the first half of the day is targeted toward ages birth to 8 years, while 1-4pm is for ages 9-adult.

Free Green Cleaning Workshops
Hennepin County Library and Urban Relish are teaming up to provide a number of free workshops on making your own green cleaning products. The workshops take place in September and October, but registration times vary. I’d sign up right away when registration for the date you are interested in opens, as I’d imagine the workshops may fill up fast. (Thanks, phenoMNal Twin Cities!).

Creative Kidstuff Kids Council
Local toy store chain Creative Kidstuff is holding their Kids Council on Sunday, 9/23, at 5:30pm. After store hours, Creative Kidstuff invites children to come and play with toys they are thinking of stocking. Each child will receive a $5 gift card and a chance to win a $25 giftcard, just for playing with toys.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited, so register right away if interested.

Sample Night Live! Family-Friendly Night
On September 5, the History Theatre in St. Paul is again hosting Sample Night Live!, a collection of a dozen arts performances including theatre, dance, classical music, jazz, music theater, stand-up comedy, improv, spoken word, film, visual arts and more.

Even better, the first half of the evening is kid-friendly this month, including free tickets for the G-rated first half of the show for kids 12 and under. Parent tickets for the first half only are only $10, or free with a small fee through MELSA. (Thanks, Free Family Fun!)

*Reminder* 50% Off at Arc’s Value Village
Back to school time can be expensive – so on Labor Day, Monday 9/3, Arc’s Value Village is having a 50% off sale. From 9am to 7pm, everything in the store (with the exception of brand new items) will be 50% off. Arc’s Value Village has four locations around the Twin Cities.

Feel free to contact us if you know of any additional coupons, deals and events available to readers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Saturday September 1st Home Depot has their free kiddo project. It is a wooden goal post for "paper triangle football". They also show it being used for a jewelry holder.

Unique Thrift Store (several metro locations) also has 50% off sale on minor holidays (Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, etc.)
