Twin Cities folks can find lots of free fun at Art-a-Whirl this weekend, plus free theatre tickets, a Dress for Success surplus sale and more.

Your turn: What’s your favorite part of Art-a-Whirl?

Art-a-Whirl is a free arts festival in Northeast Minneapolis, and it takes place this weekend. In fact, it’s the largest open-studio tour in the country. Visit studios, see demonstrations, exhibitions and live music, too. There will also be free trolley rides between some of the Art-a-Whirl locations.

Free Gremlin Theatre Tickets
Today only, Goldstar is offering free tickets to the Gremlin Theatre’s production of An Absolute Turkey. Late May and early June performances of this “funny French farce” are normally $20, but through Goldstar they are free plus a $3.50 service fee per ticket.

Dress for Success Surplus Sale
Dress for Success, the non-profit organization that provides professional clothing to women who need it, is holding a surplus sale open to the general public. The sale will be held Saturday, May 19th 10am-5pm at Dress for Success Twin Cities, 1549 University Ave. in St. Paul, and will include gently-used clothing and accessories, as well as a $5 and up leather and designer section. (Thanks, Thrifty Minnesota!)

Read Away Your St. Paul Public Library Fines
If you happen to have a kid or teen with library fines at the St. Paul Public Library, or you have some yourself, through 6/15 you can read your fines away with their Summer Read Down Program. Read print media in the library for 15 minutes and earn $1 off your fines. The only catch is that you are a kid, a teen, or an adult reading with a kid or teen.

Free Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Concerts
The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is offering free tickets to a few performances at area churches. Tomorrow, 5/17, they will perform at St. Andrew’s Lutheran in Mahtomedi, on 5/18 at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran in Plymouth, and on 5/20 at the First Lutheran Church of Columbia in Columbia Heights. See the SPCO website for tickets.

Too bad North St. Paul Library isn't also doing a Summer Read Down. My thought is that maybe if those of us that go to the Ramsey County Libraries ask for this program, we may just get it! Here's the contact info: http://www.rclreads.org/about/contact I submitted an email so hopefully we'll get this too :)
