Local Deals: Free Crashed Ice Events, Free Kids’ Science Museum Admission, Free LeeAnn Chin + More

It’s a big weekend in the Twin Cities: Get up to four kids into the Science Museum of Minnesota for free with an adult admission, head up the hill for the free Crashed Ice event, score 2-for-1 tickets to the Guthrie and more.

Free Red Bull Crashed Ice Event
Everyone in the Twin Cities seems to be talking about Red Bull’s Crashed Ice event taking place this Saturday evening in St. Paul. This wild sporting event features skaters racing down a surreal giant ice course built on St. Paul’s Cathedral Hill (and even shooting down the Cathedral steps). Qualifying events take place Thursday, 1/12 and Friday, 1/13 with the final race Saturday night at 7pm. The qualifying races and the final are free and open to the public. The City of Saint Paul has all the information you need to attend this unique event.

Science Fusion at Science Museum of Minnesota
The Science Museum of Minnesota in downtown St. Paul has a series of Science Fusion events this month that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) for kids and adults alike. This Saturday, 1/14, Science Fusion will highlight African Americans in Science with activities, displays and presentations throughout the Museum from 1-4pm. The event is included with museum admission, and even better, up to four children get in free with each full-price adult. Future programs include American Indians in Science on 1/21 and ¡Amantes de la Ciencia! on 1/28.

Free LeeAnn Chin
Crowd Cut, a local daily deal site, is giving away free combo platters at LeeAnn Chin.  Two ways you can get one: 1) If you’ve not yet signed up for Crowd Cut, a local daily deal site, sign up now and you’ll get your coupon for a free meal. 2) If you already subscribe to Crowd Cut’s daily emails, then enter your email and then get 3 friends to sign up (entice them with their opportunity for a free combo platter) and when they do, then you’ll get a free meal as well.

Two for One Guthrie Tickets
Starting today, 1/11 at 4:20pm, a limited number of tickets for the Guthrie Theater’s 1/31, 2/1 and 2/2 performances of  “End of the Rainbow” will be buy one, get one free. I’d recommend purchasing tickets right away this afternoon at 4:20 if you are interested in this deal, as it may sell out. (Thanks, phenoMNal twin cities!)

Free Whole Foods Health Starts Here Event
Two local Whole Foods locations are holding free Health Starts Here Passport Events this Saturday, 1/14 from 1-3pm. Pick up a “passport” and visit each department in the store for samples. Then use your completed passport to enter a giveaway for a free Basic Pantry Makeover valued at $50. The event takes place at Whole Foods in Minnetonka and in Minneapolis.

Free Mayo Clinic Event at Mall of America
The Mayo Clinic will be hosting a free Healthy Living event at the Mall of America Rotunda this Sunday, 1/15 from 1-5pm. The event features healthy eating education, injury assessments, workouts for adults and kids, a meditation area, complimentary blood pressure and body mass index screenings and more. (Thanks, Thrifty Minnesota!)

    The Guthrie deal is bogus – I just called the box office and they don’t know anything about it. I directed them to the website phenomnaltwincities.com and Guthrie said they’ve done it before and WEREN’T creditable.
