It’s no secret that Amazon.com often has some of the best deals available during Black Friday week and beyond. What isn’t as clear is how to score those deals. Luckily, a few of the following tips can help ensure that you have access to the best Amazon deals this holiday season.
Shop the Lightning Deals
Amazon’s best deals are usually offered as “Lightning Deals,” limited time discounts offered throughout the day. Lightning Deals are generally released on the hour and last until the discounted items are claimed. Discounts are in the range of 20-75% off of retail prices.
The easiest way to score these deals is to be ready when they are offered. Head to the Amazon Black Friday page, make sure you are logged in, and be ready to make decisions quickly. After you add a Lightning Deal to your cart, you have just 15 minutes to check out. If you do not check out within that 15 minutes, the deal will be released to another customer.
Lightning Deals can go very fast, and if a deal sells out, a limited number of people can join a waitlist for the deal. If you are on a waitlist, it means you are hoping for another customer to change their mind and miss their 15-minute buying window. You will be notified if the deal is available to you. Stay on the page and refresh often to make sure you don’t miss your turn at the deal.
Other Amazon Deals
The Amazon Black Friday page features not just Lightning Deals, but also deals by department. Some of these deals can be just for the day, and others are good until they sell out.
Scroll down to see each major department and a few of the featured discounts. In order to see all the discounts for a certain department, though, you must click on the blue text below each handful of deals. For instance, if you click on the words “See More Black Friday Deals in Video Games,” it will take you to a whopping 54 more special video game deals at the time of this writing. Discounts range from 30-70% off retail prices.
Deals Throughout the Season
After Black Friday Week is over, Amazon’s Black Friday page will change to the “Cyber Monday” page, then “Holiday Flurry Deals” and finally “Top Holiday Deals.” Despite the name changes, the deal process remains the same for Lightning Deals and other deals throughout the site.
A Word About Shipping
Shipping remains the same as usual on Amazon throughout the holiday season. Many deals, including Lightning Deals, qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping on qualifying orders over $25, and many ship free with Amazon Prime ($79 a year, or get a free limited-time membership through Amazon Mom or Amazon Student).
Amazon specifies with each purchase if the items will be shipped in time for Christmas. Just remember, if you drop a limited-time deal into your cart, there isn’t much time to add to it before you have to check out.
