Walmart emailed me yesterday about a very cool money-saving promotion they are running this Christmas season. It’s called their Christmas Price Guarantee. Christmas Price Guarantee means Walmart will pay the difference between the cost of any item purchased (excluding food and groceries) at its stores for the same item found on sale or for less at another local store.
Specifics on how this works include:
- Walmart’s Christmas Price Guarantee is valid on purchases made Nov. 1 through Dec. 25 on identical items (the same brand, size, color, quantity, grade and model number) that are currently available at competitor’s stores located within the same local market as a particular Walmart store.
- You just need to bring the original Walmart cash register receipt and the local competitor’s printed ad to Walmart’s Customer Service desk. Once validated, a Walmart gift card for the difference will be issued.
- Online prices are excluded from this promotion. Prices must be printed in a sales flyer of some sort.
- Black Friday sales are excluded from this, although Walmart’s Ad Match Guarantee is in effect on Black Friday.

I wonder how many road blocks people will encounter trying to do this… I heard on the local news that Target was going to offer something very similar, which is wonderful, because I’d much rather shop there!
walmart has even priced matched items on black friday morning. I did this 2 years ago and just had my ad in hand. It was very handy since the store that offered it was out of them already.
Is there a time frame of bringing in the receipt of purchase/and the ad? within 2 weeks of purchase? How old can your Walmart receipt be? A little confused.
Jenny – As long as your receipt is dated within the qualifying date range (11/1 – 12/25) and you bring it in during that same timeframe, then you get the adjustment. Make sense?

I have often used the lay-a-way program along with price matching. In the past Walmart would adjust the price of an item that I already had in lay-a-way. I have done this several times over the course of the christmas shopping season, sometimes multiple times on the same item. I am not sure if they are still doing this, as it was under their old program, but it is something to keep in mind.
