Fall is in full swing, and the latest local deals include a slew of free weekend events around the Twin Cities.
Free Historic Sites Open House Weekend
This Saturday and Sunday (10/8 and 10/9), 25 historic sites around the metro area are hosting free open houses as part of Partners in Preservation, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Many sites will offer workshops, demonstrations, children’s activities, and refreshments.
Unique offerings include a “Fraidy Cat” tour of The Soap Factory’s famous Haunted Basement, tours of areas not typically on view at the Washington County Historic Courthouse and at The Landmark Center, games of bridge on the Waterford Iron Bridge, and the chance to get your photo taken on the set of A Prairie Home Companion at the Fitzgerald Theater.

Free Fridley Fire Department Open House
Saturday, 10/8, the Fridley Fire Department will be hosting a free open house from 11am-3pm at Fire Station 1, 6431 University Avenue NE. Activities will include demonstrations, fire safety information, and plenty of firefighter fun for kids. (Thanks, Thrifty Minnesota!)
Free Target Family Day at Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Sunday, 10/9 is Target Family Day at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts from 11am-5pm. Learn about the theme of “Autumn Harvest” through art activities, dance performance and participation, a harvest gallery maze, and more.
Free Whole Foods Harvest Festival
Live music, harvest activities, festival foods and tours of the not-yet-open Minnetonka Whole Foods will be featured at the Sneak Peek Harvest Festival this Sunday, 10/9 from 1pm-4pm. The store is at 1001 Plymouth Road. If you are considering attending, RSVP to MTKRSVP @ wholefoods.com (remove spaces).
