Walgreens Shopping List 8/14 – 8/20/11

There are lots of freebies this week at Walgreens, with nail polish, floss, toothbrushes, hair care products and more all free after coupons and Register Rewards. Plus, the school supply deals continue, so check the list to see which items you still need to grab before the school year starts.

If you’re new to Walgreens shopping, then learn how the Register Rewards program works and learn how to read this shopping list. Don’t forget that some other stores will accept Register Rewards like a manufacturer’s coupon. Also, it’s a good idea to print out Walgreens’ official coupon policy and keep it with you in case an issue comes up at checkout.

This is a starting list of deals for the week and is not a comprehensive list of every sale item and its coupons, but just the best deals (things at prices I’d actually pay). We will update this list as readers leave comments with bargains they found at their local store, we get emails with deal ideas or we read about other deals across the blogosphere. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week, we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Walgreens is the one store where an advertised sale like “2/$4” usually requires you to buy two products. The first one rings at full price and the second product will ring at a lesser price to bring the total to $4, using our example. If you ever question whether you need to buy two to receive a sale price, ask the cashier to scan one item for you. If it rings at full price, then you know you need to buy two products. If it rings at the sale price, then you don’t.

If the product you’re looking for is not labeled with a special Register Reward tag, the deal may not work for you. Remember that you can always return items if they do not produce the expected Register Reward.

There is a $2 coupon for the Omega Smart Super Krill. Can you tell me where I can find the $1.00 Post Shredded Wheat cereal? I have been looking and looking for it, and cannot find it.

    1. jamie

hi there is a printable 1$ off coupon on the pocket your dollars website:)

  2. Missouri Nicholas

    Hello all,
I have been couponing for a little over 2 years, now. I have made friends with the managers at the local Walgreens, Walmart, and Local grocery stores. I wanted to offer a bit of advice. Be kind to the other shoppers and managers. My local managers have been filling me in on unadvertised register rewards and special sales for about the past three months. Several managers have been letting me know what is going to be the big sale or freebee items as far as six weeks out. Some even give me their extra coupons. I know it is because I do not clear their shelves and offer help to other shoppers be it coupons or help finding something. As a father of one, and a person that likes to donate to charities and groups, I have found this one of the best lists on the internet. Thanks for all of the help, and please remember to be kind.

    1. Shelly

Nicely said! Kindness is always a good thing….

    2. Emily

Talk to your cashiers. If you come on a weekend, empathize with them and tell them you appreciate them giving you such good service when you know that they wish they could be out and about. If you have a complicated or multiple transactions, mention this to them and ask them if they would like to call up an additional cashier and take you on a different register or at the cosmetics counter. Lastly, if you coupon for charity or donate a lot of you items to the food shelf, mention how much you appreciate Wags’ good deals as they allow you to help the needy. That softens even the crankiest cashiers!

    3. Lisa O

“like” all the comments!! PYD has wonderful patrons!!

  3. Joy

FYI… According to wildforwags.com the Degree deodorant deal is no longer working for the trial size.

    1. Sue

Thanks for the update! I went today, but of course the shelves were cleared.

      1. jenny

i did try this yesterday and it didn’t work. was a little sad but a trial size deodorant for .24 cents is still nice!

    2. terra

Shoot….wish I would have seen this before….24 cents isnt gonns break me.

    3. Laura Wales

Joy – Thanks for the heads up. We’ll take it off the list.

  4. sara

I see in the Walgreens ad –if you by $30 in gillette cartriges etc…get $10 in RR. Is this a good deal? Do we generally find profusion cartriges cheaper? Do I need to wait this out?

    1. Rebecca S

I needed razors this week and did this deal. I bought two and paired it with two “Buy one Gillette cartridge, get one Gillette shave prep free” coupons from the 7/31 P&G. It wasn’t rock bottom for the razors, but the free shave gel, usually 4.99 each, was a nice bonus, especially since my husband is in Afghanistan and that is his favorite brand, so he will love to get it in the mail. Also, for just cartridges, it was a pretty good deal since cartridge coupons are hard to fins, while complete razors coupons are plentiful.

      1. Theresa K.

Thank you so much for sharing this deal idea, Rebecca S! My two men have needed razors for a week and I’ve been holding out for a good idea! You just saved me money and I appreciate it!

        1. Rebecca S

Yay! Glad I could help someone out! :)

          1. sara

Yes!! Thank you Rebecca! I went today and did get the free shave gel. I have been waiting for a bit for a coupon on these razors……. I went to their web page and signed up for their emails. Hopefully they will offer some coupons there. Thank you for your help.

  5. Shannen

The Expo markers are $3.99 -after- the coupon in the August booklet, so they do not end up free at checkout. I tried to get this today and I had a total of about $9 instead of free. Just FYI. :)

    1. Jennifer M.

I would take your receipt back to the store because they did something wrong. The ad clearly states that after the in-store coupon the Expos are 99 cents! Maybe you were there before the ad prices were in effect???

    2. Sue

It is in the ad. The sale price is $3.99 less $3 store coupon. It worked for me this morning. Maybe you didn’t buy the 6 pack washable ones that are on sale.

    3. Laura Wales

Shannen – The ad clearly states $0.99 after in-store $3 coupon, but the sale prices doesn’t start until today (Sunday). Could that be the issue?

      1. Shannen

Yep, that was it. Newbie mistake. *blush* I got so excited to get something for free, and went too early! :)

        1. Laura Wales

It’s OK. It’s an honest mistake as we do post the list a day early. Plus, some readers have reported that their store starts the next week’s sale prices early. (I know that’s the case at some CVS stores.) Apparently yours doesn’t. :)

  6. Kristin

The Brach’s autumn candy comes out to $0.50 per bag if you use two coupons from the 7/17 Smart Source for $.50 off any one Brach’s product.

    1. V

There is also a .50 cent off coupon for Brach’s candy from recent All You magazines.

    2. Laura Wales

Kristin – I believe that the Brach’s coupon is not valid on “holiday” products, and I think the autumn candy would qualify as a holiday product.

      1. Sarah Sonnier

Not trying to be mean but I’m just laughing at how sad it is that they called them “autumn” candies…THANKSgiving is no longer a holiday it seems, so they lump it with halloween and call it “autumn” LOL. I for one, miss THANKSgiving being a bigger deal than halloween. (Ok, stepping off soapbox…) ;-) LOL I guess if you wanted to, you could make a statement at your store if they did choose to classify the “autumn” candy as holiday. Come to think of it, I bet we have the “politcally-correct”-world folks to thank for this one. :-) (Ok, stepping AWAY from the soapbox…)

  7. Sue

The BOGO Stayfree coupon has a max value of $4.29. The ones on sale BOGO are all over $6.00 so 2 packs will not be free.

    1. Laura Wales

      Thanks for the update, Sue!

  8. Emily

I second Sue, the pad deal won’t work. And I found the 6 pack expo markers in the office supply area, not the back to school aisle.

  9. Naomi

Can’t find the $2 wags coupon for nail polish. But I just realized it is still free with with the $1 coupon.

    1. Brianna

It was part of one of the coupon inserts a couple of weeks ago, but I can’t remember if it was SS or RP.

  10. sara

The expo deal didn’t work for me. The register only took off $3, not $6. I checked, and I did purchase (2) of the 6-packs. Has anyone else had this experience? I don’t know if I should fight it, or just return the markers. I could really use these for my kids. ;(

    1. Rebecca S

I bought two packages today, and the register took off $6 for me. I would bring in your receipt. $3 is $3.

    2. Erin

I’d go back and ask! I did this deal twice and it worked fine, and took off $6 each time.

      1. JoAnna

I bought them last wk. Hoping for a price adjustment :)

    3. jo

The Expo markers did not work for me so I ended up returning them. It only took off $3. When I looked at the coupons fine print, it says limit one so that is why it didn’t take off $6. You are better off not using the manufacture coupon so then you only pay .99 cents each.

      1. dennis rambo

It is up to the store I think. I had no problem getting two packs and using two coupons which allowed me to use the $2off2 as well. good luck next time.

      2. Laura Wales

Cassie – Usually the Walgreens coupons work in that you just have to use one and it automatically applies the coupon value to all of those items you purchase in one transaction. I’m not sure why it didn’t work for you. :(

        1. Kmom

The walgreens coupons only ever work on one for me as well. At least the ones from the books. The ones from the weekly ads always take off the amount allowed.

  11. Wendy

Where do you find the Walgreens Infant Care coupon booklet? I have been to a couple different Walgreens locations and asked at the beauty counter and main checkout and no one seems to know what it is.

    1. connie

They came out months ago, so no one still has them at the stores. If someone out there has them, could you list the 4-digit numbers here? The cashier can punch in the code and it works fine. I think specifically people want the 2 or 3 diaper codes. thx

      1. Emily

Ok, the booklet is more like a pamphlet. I picked a couple up at the Waconia Walgreens last week. Here is the coupons and the upc codes on each:
        -$2 off Children’s or Infants’ Advil suspension, 0.5 or 4 oz. 000000055208
-$2 off any 1 Pampers Cruisers, Swaddlers, or Swaddlers Sensitive Diapers (Big or Jumbo Packs) 000000055215
-$2 off Triple Paste Medicated Ointment for Diaper Rash, 2 oz. or larger 000000055222
-$2 off Walgreens Brand Diapers, Jumbo Pack 000000028448
-$2 off any Enfamil Infant Formula Powder, 22.2 oz. or larger 000000055161
-$2 off Similac Advance or Sensitive, 23.2 oz. 000000055178
-$2 off any two Playtex Infant Products 000000055185
-$2 off any one Huggies Diapers Big Pack or Wipes 184 or 216 ct. 000000055192

        Hope this helps!

      2. Cassie

  12. marie

With the stayfree deal listed above, the max coupon value for the free item is (like) $2 less than the single item value (if I recall correctly the only items marked on the B1G1Free deal were all in the $6.49 range BUT the coupon had a max coupon value of 4.49)…so no “2 free after coupon”

    1. Laura Wales

Marie – You’re right. Someone commented on this earlier so I made a note in the list letting people know this.

  13. d

Could someone please tell me which Walgreens carry the $1 boxes of Post Shredded Wheat? Couldn’t find them at the Wags on Larpen
teur and Lex or Larpenteur and Rice. Thanks!

    1. angela

I would love to know this too–Snelling/Randolph doesn’t have them either.

      1. Dawn N

Same with the CR Riverdale, CR Blvd & Northtown Walgreens store. No post at that price or size. Anyone find it? Thanks.

  14. Theresa K.

Boy, my local Walgreens sure was cleared out of the RR deals. So frustrating. Got a good deal on Gillette razors, though.

  15. Annie

At my wgs the only revlon nail polish marked rr is blue… Anyone else? Could the other colors be rr too and just not marked?
Also, my revlon manuf coupons say “color cosmetics” and the register beeped… I had one with only a pic of makeup and one with a picture of nail polish and makeup. Both beeped, but he gave me the one with the nail polish pictured. Has anyone had the others work? I’m hoping to do one more shop tomorrow after a great shop at the hwy 41 wgs today!

    1. Laura Wales

Annie – I ran into the same thing at my Walgreens. Yes, the other colors are also eligible for the Register Reward. Both manufacturer coupons should work as they have the same barcode (even though one of them has the picture of nail polish and the other one doesn’t).

    2. Emily

I did a little research about this issue and found this website:http://www.afullcup.com/forums/deal-graveyard/118585-heads-up-revlon-color-cosmetic-coupon.html Ignore the first couple posts, but a few down is a really good reason on why the coupon won’t scan.

    3. Annie

      Thank you ladies!

Pilot G2 or Frixion Gel Pens (2 pk.) $1.99
    Sale price, no coupon needed
    Final price: $1.99

This deal has a rebate on the packages I bought.
It is 1.25 rebate for 1
    2.75 with purchase of 2
4.50 for the purchase of 3
Bought 2 fo 1.99 each used my internet coupon from last week $1/1 making them 99 cents each and then there is the rebate better than free.

    1. amy

      Nikki,
Any idea where your internet coupon was from?

      1. nicki

all you and coupons.com have the coupon.

        1. nicki

          coupons.com sorry:)

          1. amy

            Thanks!

  17. Katie

The Kellogg’s printable ($2/2 for the shakes) isn’t available, I don’t think. I went to their website, saw an image of the deal and registered. Three other deals were available (coupons) but not the $2/2… Just thought I’d mention :)

    1. Laura Wales

Katie – Thanks for the update!

  18. Lauren

I went to 2 different Wags in the St. Cloud area on Sunday morning right after church and both were completey cleared out of the washable expo markers. Pretty frustrating that they would all be gone only hours into the first day of the sale. My gym collecting school supplies to donate and I would love to contribute, so I hope they are restocked sometime this week!

  19. Jennifer

Went to Walgreens yesterday to snag the free nail polish!!! ( thanks :) ) I ended up in the candy isle where I found the big pack of Tic Tacs that are normally $1.49 were reduced to $.75 and used 5 of my $.75 coupons and got them all for FREE!!!!
PS. I was in the Waupaca Wi, Walgreens. If anyone is near for the deal!

  20. Melissa

Try back late in the week. I have found that they often restock and then there is plenty to go around. That isn’t always the case, but I have had some good luck on Thursdays and Fridays.

  21. ottosmom

If you sign up here http://www.notjustapen.com/Registration you will receive an email allowing you to access a $1 off any FriXion pack, making the total purchase price $.99. Not sure how this would work in conjunction with the rebate but thought I’d share.

  22. Anna

yeah, i was bummed about the expo markers, totally out at my store as well.
good sale but hardly anything in stock today……….
i am going to try later in the week and a few other stores to see if i can get what i need.

  23. Amber

Realized that I have $17 in expired Register Rewards. Anyone know where I can use them? I would prefer to use them at a Walgreens if possible. Anyone have any stores that have taken them in the past. They expired 8/14/11. Thanks!

    1. Andrea

Some Cub Foods will take them.

      1. ann

cub @ forest lake takes expired RR

        1. Amber

I called the Walgreens on Central Ave in Mpls and the manager agreed to take my expired RR one time only. Will watch the expiration dates closer in the future. This Walgreens had the infant care book and was pretty well stocked.

          1. JoAnna

It’s nice to hear a positive Walgreens exp :)

  24. ann

today I went to WAG and bought the Pert plus for $3.99 and didn’t get the RR. I called the store and they said that the RR is only good for the ones that are 25 oz, so watch which you’re picking up :)

    1. Laura Wales

Ann – Thanks for the clarification.

  25. Linda

I just went to the Walgreens on University and Mississippi in Fridley and the manager would not honor the manufacturers coupon for the Omega Krill Oil register rewards item. He said is was not fair to the manufacturer so he would only allow me to purchase it without the coupon.

    1. TK

This manager is not correct in his handling of Walgreen’s coupon policies. Maybe try a different one? I’ll try mine tonight.

    2. Emily U

It worked at mine with no questions asked.

  26. dennis rambo

I guess I was lucky today. I went into Walgreens to get those dry erase markers for.99 with 3.00 off coupon plus my 2.00 off two..Well they were out of them. A worker walked over to the marker isle and gave me the 8 pk for a sub. WOW they are 10.49 each. I felt bad to use my coupons but they let me anyway. So I bought 21.00 of markers for -.02–awsome deal thanks for your help..

  27. marie

With the “Children’s and Infants’ Advil – Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off” deal above..you should be able to use the $5 off 2 coupon that you have listed with the Walmart Advil/Thermacare deal (since it says ANY advil) making this an even better deal ((better than free with infants advil and .75 each for the Childrens)) just a thought

  28. Sarah Sonnier

FYI for the Advil deal, even though the as for the $5/2 coupon sounds like you’d need to buy one of EACH Advil and ThermaCare, it actually states:
“Save $5 of any (2) Advil…or ThermaCare (must purchase any combination of 2)”

Also, the $2/1 coupon promts your printer options menu so you can actually tell it how many copies to print (I did 3 and all printed fine), not sure what ethics would apply, I saw no note on the site or the coupon about 1 per ____ at all. :-)

    1. amy

      Sarah,
I didn’t print the coupon but when I went to website it says, Save $5 when you buy any Advil and Thermacare products together. Sounds like you have to buy both.

  29. Sarah Sonnier

***Correction: When I went hit the print button a second time, it still let me print as many copies as I indicated, but when I then hit the print button on their page again, it said: “Thank you for your interest. We’re sorry, but this offer is limited to 2 coupons per household.” The coupon says nothing about a limit though so, again, ethical issue???

  30. HN

Is it possible to have the “Deal Idea” print with the list when you put a check in the box?? Example. The Oral B deal idea doesn’t print with the list.

    1. Laura Wales

HN – For sure. It’s supposed to do that automatically but sometimes the formatting on our end gets screwed up. Sorry about that! I’ll fix the Oral B deal idea.

  31. HN

Thanks so much Laura! The list printed perfect now :))

  32. Jodi

It seems that the Walgreens in Coon Rapids gives out rainchecks for RR items that are on sale. They’ve done this for me twice now. Of course, when I go back another week the RR doesn’t print so they just take off whatever amount that I would have gotten as a RR. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I love it! :)

    1. Laura Wales

Jodi – One of the Walgreens locations in Maple Grove used to give out “rain checks” of sorts for Register Reward items. What they would do is have you purchase the item without it actually being on the shelf so you’d get the Register Reward, then you’d get a call later when your item came in. I’m not sure if they’re still doing this.
