Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 8/21 – 8/27/11

If you are new to shopping Double Daze, be sure to read Roundy’s (Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save’s) double coupon policy before you get started to understand all the restrictions of their double coupon promotion.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Chuck Roast Meal Deal (Limit 1)
Buy minimum 3.5 lb. Chuck Roast at $3.29/lb, then get 5 lb. potatoes, 1 lb. carrots and 3 lb. yellow onions free (free veggies are worth $6.47)
My opinion: A good sale price on chuck roast is $1.99/lb. and this deal requires you to pay $1.30/lb. more than that. If your roast is 5 lbs or less, then it is a reasonable deal, but if your roast weighs more than that you are paying more than you need to for the sake of “free” veggies. In September of last year, Roundy’s ran this same deal for $2.99/lb. so we may see better deals in the coming weeks.

Fresh Express Salads $2/5 use coupons from vocalpoint mailer. $1/1 brings it down to .50 after coupon. Check Monopoly coupons for .25 off which makes a bag of salad for .25. Seems like a great deal to me.

Also check monopoly coupons for Dannon Danimals Yogurt Coupons.

    1. Jessica

      Thanks for this!!!

    2. Laura Wales

      Thanks, Chrissy!

  3. alesha

Anyone know what size the huggies on special start at?

    1. anne

      size 3,4,5

      1. DMOM

does anyone know if you can “roll” the huggies q since it is at the reciept.

        1. anne

yes i did 4 times in a row.

          1. Becky

Do you mind my asking where you shop? The store I went to tonight didn’t have the Slip Ons so I had all my transactions screwed up…kind of annoying.,

  4. val

Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt coupon isn’t printing. Also, there is a 55 cents off coupon in the 8/7 Smart Source – better than the 50 cents printable one.

    1. JoAnna

      I agree Val–I don’t see a printable through FB.

      1. joanna

But–I don’t see the 8/7 SS coupon listed in any database and I don’t see it in my insert. Anyone else find it? Thanks for the update, Val!

  5. Carol

I didn’t care to sign up for the Gold’n Plump coupon, but found $1 off 1 package of Gold’n Plump on the last page of the Smart Source link for the CUB foods Duncan Hines $1 off cake mix & frosting (although I never found the original cake mix & frosting coupon!)

    1. JoAnna

Carol–I didn’t see a gold n plump coupon. It may be that I already printed though.

      1. sharon

try entering your zip code. I didn’t see the coupon until I entered my zip code (I live in the NW metro).

    2. Karen

      Thanks Carol!

  6. Phyllis

Check your monopoly coupons for .25 cents off from Kemps Cottage Cheese in the coupon book. $1.88 – .25 equals $1.63. Not bad for a 24 oz cottage cheese.

    1. Andy

The Coupon Book and Monopoly coupons are both Roundys store coupons, you shouldn’t be able to use both?

      1. JoAnna

Andy–good catch. They are both store coupons and I am guessing they should not be stacked.

    2. Emily

I also have Monopoly coupons for the Danimals – 25 cents is pretty good for a yogurt pack!

      1. Laura Wales

        Thanks, Emily!

  7. Nicole

I am confused about the General Mills deal. How do they work out to $.48 per box when you have to purchase 8 and can only use 5 coupons that double per transaction?

    1. Rachel

I think what they mean is that you can get it for as low as 48 cents a box (for just one). The others would be a bit more because you can only double 5 coupons.

  8. Phyllis

They are referring to individual boxes. If you have a 75 cents off and double it, that box of cereal will be 48 cents. Of course you cannot double more that 5 so some boxes would be at a higher price. What you could do is buy some of the different kinds that have say $1/2 coupons. If this were a double, double daze with 10 coupons then you would have it made.

    1. Laura Wales

Rachel and Phyllis – Thanks for clarifying!

  9. cathy

does the purchase of a $50 JCPenney gift card counts toward the $25 threshold for doubling coupons?

    1. joanna

cathy–It does apply to the minimum :)

    2. angela

Yes it does, and FYI so do all other gift cards. I usually don’t need to buy $25 of groceries in a single transaction (because I want all my coupons to double so I do more than one transaction.) I always buy a BP gift card because that’s money I would be spending on gas anyway. If I have moneymaker coupons that week sometimes the gas card ends up costing me less than the $25 face value!! :)

By the way, this has worked at every Rainbow I have shopped at *except* Eagan. Their register and/or cashier (I’m not sure what was going on) didn’t let me use the gift card to reach the $25 purchase requirement.

      1. jill Pearson

Can you do as little as $5.00 Gc?

        1. Julie

Yes. I get a Rainbow gift card for $5 all the time.

          1. Alicia

If I’m doing multiple transactions, can I use one gift card to “pay” for another? I.e. I buy one for $10 to hit the $25 mark, then use that on the transaction in which I buy another $10 card to hit the $25 mark again? Does anyone know if that might work?

          2. Kathy

It works, but is it ethical? I think if people start doing often and gift cards will be eliminated toward the $25 purchase or double coupons will be eliminated altogether.

          3. Alicia

Okay, thanks, just wondering. I don’t plan to make it a habit, I just couldn’t make my transactions work without buying a bunch of stuff I didn’t need…..but then I DID find a way to rework it, so I don’t plan to do it anymore. :)

          4. jill Pearson

Yes it’s ethical. I had a cashier offer me to get a gift card when it didn’t come up the $25. A few times. And to use it on next transactions. They know we do that.

          5. angela

I’m on the fence about whether buying Rainbow gift cards is ethical or not. That’s why I always buy a gas card instead.

      2. Kathy

I don’t think buying a Rainbow gift card is ethical because you are eliminating the minimum purchase requirement, but I agree buying a different gift card that Rainbow makes a profit like a gas card on is perfectly ethical. There may be some “nice” cashiers that offer to get you a giftcard but that doesn’t mean management may have different ideas.

        1. Kris E

I was told by management that it was perfectly fine to use a rainbow gift card to reach the minimum.

          1. Kathy

It is perfectly fine on occasion, put rinsing and repeating to avoid the minimum is where it becomes unethical to me.

  10. jill Pearson

There is $.25 Monopoly coupon for danimals also

    1. Laura Wales

      Thanks, Jill!

  11. es

Is there a limit on the huggies deal? If so what if I did multiple transactions?

    1. anne

no limit, i did 4 transactions this morning and rolled the $5 off next shopping orders.
spent about $18 on 4 packages and still have a $5 left.

    2. Melissa

I am excited about the huggies deal, too, because I have 2 children in diapers. I am hoping to be able to buy a few packages when I go today. I would just like to encourage people to be respectful of others and not clear the shelves, just because it’s a good deal. Thanks! :)

      1. anne

yes i would go today because not all the copps and pick n save near me carry these yet. i only saw them at 2 stores. the other 3 did not carry them yet. i was going to wait until wed. but thought they might be gone by then

  12. Lisa F

Does anyone know where the Scotch scissors are? I looked in the aisle with the Scotch packing tape and the other scissors and didn’t see a spot for the Scotch scissors at my store in Bloomington…

    1. Melissa

I have always found them in the office supply area like by school stuff….paper, envelopes. tape markers. That is at the Brooklyn Park location.

  13. Melissa W.

The Rainbow in Savage does not have the Huggies yet. They thought they would get them in this evening on the truck. They also get trucks on Weds. and Fri. The customer service lady also said they would do a raincheck if they don’t have them by the end of the week. She said it would be for the 5.99 price. I would call your store first to see if they have them yet before you make a trip out.

    1. Becky

I was at the Savage store tonight and they still didn’t have these diapers. I will have to call on Saturday to see if they have them yet.

  14. Alex

If you follow the link for the $.55/1 Hillshire Farms Lunch Meat coupon on Facebook, you have the option to get a $1/1 coupon instead if you enter 3 people’s e-mail addresses (this is all after clicking “like” and watching the video). That brings the price down to $1.98/lb after doubled coupon!
    Alex

  15. Alex

Also, Organic Valley Half and Half has gone up to $2.45 where I’ve seen it, making it as low as $.95 after doubled coupon.
    Alex

    1. Laura Wales

      Thanks, Alex!

  16. marie

HUGGIES DIAPERS…in case anyone plans on purchasing multiple bags of these diapers, be aware that (even though the ad doesn’t say so) this is a limit of one per purchase WITH roundy’s card…so they have to be rung up seperately with your card number. ALSO, unbenounced to me until today, Rainbow has a limit on roundy’s card transactions per day! I had 8 coupons for these diapers, and on the 8th (seperate) transaction, it wouldn’t give me my $5 coupon on the bottom of reciept. SO..if you plan on buying more than 7, bring another roundy’s card with you!

    1. anne

yes you can only do 6 or 7 orders in 1 day

  17. marie

and rainbow in St Louis Park had a lot of them in as of 2pm today!

  18. Amanda

I went to the Raingbow this morning at 9:00 for 3 packages of diapers. They spent 20 minutes looking all over the store for the Huggies Slip On ones for me. They were so kind, they let me get 3 pkgs of Huggies Little Movers…took $5.00 off each pack at the register, I had 3 $3.00 coupons so $7.47 for 3 or $2.49 each. That’s 0.08 a diaper (size 3). They were so helpful. I love Rainbow.

  19. connie

Wish Bone coupon out of prints, fyi.

    1. JoAnna

Thanks for the update, connie :)

  20. Sarah Sonnier

RE: Hallmark Cards $0.99 (starting price)
    Buy 3 and use $2/3 in-ad Roundy’s coupon
Final price: $0.33 each after coupon

If anyone has purchased double-sided Scotch tape lately (maybe others?), check the packaging for a picture of a red envelope with a little thing sticking out that says “Up to $1 off any greeting card”, the coupon is actually found on the back of the little dispenser-sized cardboard thing on the front (which means you have to take the tape roll off to get it, annoying LOL). It would make for some cheap or free cards with the sale this week! Doesn’t say DND, but it does say “Up to $1 off” and asks for a purchase price (not sure if it might be able to double???), and it actually states “No Expiration Date”. I hope that won’t be an issue…the fact that it is shaped like the tape dispenser should help though if it is! LOL I’m thinking if you got 3 cards for $.99, used 3 of these coupons, and then handed the in-ad coupon, you might make money on the deal too!

  21. Kathy Malecek

32 oz yogurt at Aldi today was $1.99, a jump of .20 and that was up from $1.69 earlier this summer. The small containers were .37 each.

    1. Laura Wales

Kathy – I just saw that at my Aldi, too. :( Bummer!

  22. Jennifer M.

Anyone wanting extra diaper coupons, send me a message and I can get them into the mail right away so you can use them this week. jennifer @ sommerer and schultz . com. (take out all spaces).

    1. Jennifer M.

The coupons found a home. :o)

  23. Sue

There are also $.25 Monopoly coupons for Chex Mix.

    1. Laura Wales

      Thanks, Sue!

For the Chuck Roast deal, although a good price for chuck roast used to be $1.99, I double we will see that price for awhile.

  26. natasha s.

Anyone know if the Chaska Rainbow goes by shelf or sale price to reach the $25? Just moved out here and afraid how it will go tomorrow.

    1. JoAnna

When I have shopped there it has been by shelf price. Guessing it is still the same. Welcome to Chaska :)

      1. natasha s.

Thanks…We are actually in St. Boni but its well worth the 7 mile drive over there.

  27. Emily

If anyone is interested, I do ad matches for Mackenthun’s of Waconia and Jubilee Foods of Becker and Mound (Jubilee doubles coupons up to $0.50). My blog is http://emssoapbox.blogspot.com. Hope this helps someone out.

    1. JoAnna

I have passed your info on to friends in Waconia :)

    2. Dawn N

      Will pass on the info.

  28. Carol

My question doesn’t pertain to Rainbow’s weekly ad, but I will ask anyway: Has anyone had trouble receiving the Snapple rebate that was offered last spring? I mailed mine in late May 2011 and still have not received it.
    Thanks,
    Carol

    1. JoAnna

Carol–There has been discussion regarding this on facebook and open mic. Many of us are still waiting.

    2. connie

They are just that far behind. I did the one last summer, got them all. I did the one in March, got them, too. I am sure these will come, too, just a little later. It was an awesome deal!!

    3. angela

I just finally got mine a few weeks ago (sent in May 14, received August 11). I found contact information for the rebate processor: cherrera at fulfillplus dot com
She was very helpful and assured me my rebate would be in the mail the next week, which it was!

      1. JoAnna

Good to know, Angela. Thanks for the contact info to get an update.

    4. Melissa

I called them and left a message and they called me back yesterday and said they were set to start being mailed out next week sometime.

  29. Carol

The Bic stationery coupon is “not subject to doubling,” so the pen deal would be 25 cents a bag after the coupon.

    1. JoAnna

      You are correct, Carol. Thanks!

    2. amber

Thanks, Carol! I went to Rainbow this morning and the cashier couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t letting him double it. That explains why.

  30. Jennifer

The Bic coupon is hardcoded not to double. Even when the cashier doesn’t check the coupon, it still doesn’t double. All other coupons doubled except this.

  31. nekaya

Does anyone know if you can reach the $25 with just the 8 boxes of cereal? (It comes to $16, but does it go by sale price or not sale price?)

    1. JoAnna

      nekaya–
The $25 min often goes by shelf price for doubling coupons.

    2. Ben

at my store, each box of cereal is around $3.99 to 4.29 shelf price, so you would easily reach the $25 threshold just purchasing cereal.

  32. amber

Wow! I went to Rainbow in Woodbury this morning and the Huggies Slip-Ons Diapers in size 3 were only $8.89 (the regular tag had this price on it). I couldn’t find any other packages in larger sizes or the ones that were advertised for $10.99 so I went ahead and purchased a package. I didn’t realize until I got home that after the $3 manufacturer coupon and $5 off your next shopping trip coupon that printed at the bottom of my receipt, I only paid $0.89!! Did anyone else find this price at their store??

    1. Kierstien

WOW! Great job :) My rainbow doesnt have these in yet but that would be awesome at only $0.89/pack. I would perfer to pay only $0.10/diaper and the way it is right now @$2.99/pk it would be $0.12/diaper.

    2. Erin

Woodbury is all out of size 3′s – but they were $8.89! Size 4 & 5 are $10.99, and they still had a full end cap of those as of 8:30 this morning if anybody is looking!

  33. Shauna

I tried to get a cereal coupon from Cool Savings. Ugh. I feel violated. I kept going thinking I would eventually get to the coupons. Finally about 20 screens in, I gave up. I feel like I need a shower now.

    1. Emily

When it does that, go back to the homepage and you should be able to get to the coupons. But yeah, it is total BS.

    2. Lisa O

Amen–I gave up after a few screens, but good to know you can go back to the homepage and access what their whole purpose should be!! Thanks Emily!

      1. Emily Rinke

Yeah it is total bull doodie. I wonder if they are owned by the same company as coupons.com. They have the exact same coupons, both sites are FULL of ads, and both are far from user friendly.

  34. Jen

The Midway Rainbow had Golden Plump chicken thighs on price cut for $1.99. I had planned to get 2 packages of the split chicken breasts but got one instead and one of the thighs. .99 cents for both!! That made me smile.:) Thanks to everyone on PYD!

    1. JoAnna

      Great deal, Jen!

  35. Sara

The rainbow in Eagan had Huggies Pull Ups Flushable Moist Wipes (42 ct.) for $4.07 (including tax) a box. Where are you finding them for $1.99? Sometimes prices vary by store.

    1. Jen

Hi, Sara. The Midway Rainbow I mentioned is in St. Paul. Not your neck of the woods.:)

    2. Kierstien

Lakeville had thse for $1.99 but when I went on Wed. they were all out.

    3. Holly

Sara- the item you’re looking for is the refill pack, not the box. I’ve been getting these free for with double coupons for the last year at least :)

  36. Rachel Ann

Pick – N – Save Janesville Wisconsin, out of Monopoly tickets as of tonight 8/24. Not sure if they will be getting any more in or if they are done.

  37. Mary

Some of the Marzetti salad dressings were marked at $3.99 – making it $1.99 after dbled $1 off Q, I don’t remember what insert this was from cause I clipped it- but expires 8/31. I think this is a pretty fair price for this brand.

  38. Alex

Dr. Scholl’s inserts are 20% off this week, and their website has a $2/1 coupon.
    http://www.drscholls.com/drscholls/company/specialoffers.jsp
They still aren’t that cheap, but they could be a good way to get up to $25 if you need it!
    Alex

  39. Kathy

Did the V8 Juice 2/$5 include the Fusion V8?

    1. Shane

      no

  40. Ashley

Went to Rainbow in WSP yesterday and there were a lot of things on clearance: Clear Value green beans (frozen) .64 cents, Idaho dry instant potatoes (small packages) .29 cents, several varieties small canned, V8 juices .34.-.44 cents.

Lots of great deals. Oh, and the Gold N Plump whole chickens were still BOGO until 8/27, no coupon needed!

Just thought I’d throw that out there. lol

  41. Leslie

It didn’t appear that the Chex cereal was included in the $1.98 when you buy 8 deal. They had the price tags with the deal on them by almost every other General Mills cereal, but not Chex. So, I didn’t buy 8. I sure hope I didn’t screw this up. I could’ve gotten 8 boxes of cereal for 80 cents each!

    1. Laura Wales

Leslie – You’re right; it looks like Chex isn’t included. Thanks!

  42. Carrie

So yesterday I went to the rainbow in richfield and I had the cub coupons for the coke products with me ($2/2) not even thinking they were expired. The lady wouldn’t take them and wouldn’t even scan them, she made a big deal about it and called the manager over. I was so pissed and my 2 and 3 year old were making a mess out of the candy so I told her to take off all the soda. Tonight I went back for milk and grapes and use the cheez it coupon with the soda, and the manager called the cashier and must have told her about the incident last night and told her to wait to ring me up (she stared at me the whole time she was on the phone. So she went on to ring me up and then the manager comes over to see my coupons and was trying to figure out the one I had and first tried to refuse it til I told her I got it from the keebler booklet from their store! They treated me like I’m a criminal for using coupons! It’ll be a long time til I go back there. I’d rather go drive to uptown or bloomington than walk the 2 blocks there.

  43. Catherine Bennet

The huggies diaper coupon that I have $3/1 says huggies movers slip ons. Can I use it on the Huggies Movers? The coupons states any Huggies movers Slip On. Or are the Little Movers Slip On on sale this week as welll for the $5 OYNO? I have a bunch of coupons I would LOVE to use up. :-)

    1. Laura Wales

Catherine – The Huggies Slip On Diapers in the ad are the Little Movers variety (I think that’s the only kind of slip on diapers they have).

  44. alesha

Does anyone know if the Chaska Rainbow has the $2.00 Scotch scissors that is supposed to be on sale? I saw the precision and it rang up as $3.29.

Also does anyone know if you can buy more than one of the Slip on Huggies in a transaction and get more than one $5.00 cpn on receipt?

    1. Laura Wales

Alesha – I’m pretty sure the Huggies deal is limit one per transaction.

      1. alesha

        thanks laura!

  45. Rachel

Has anyone in the South Metro found the Huggies Slip-On diapers? I can shop either Lakeville, Apple Valley or Savage. Am looking for size 5 if you see them. Thanks!

    1. Laura

They have thm in Apple Valley, i just got back!

      1. kierstien

and apple valley is only $8.89 so a good deal with ANY of the coupons! I got mine for 89 cents!

      2. Rachel

Thanks! I went to the AV store earlier this week (can’t remember what day) and didn’t see them. I went this afternoon again and they had them! Bought two packages for 89 cents after the $5 off discount!

  46. cheryl askanass

I found ballpark lite hot dogs for $1.49 at the rainbow foods store in st.louis park

  47. Laura

I just got bak rom rainbow, they have the Huggies Slip on for 8.89…so i ended paying only 0.89!!!! THIS IS THE BEST DEAL OF THE YEAR

    1. Shea

      Laura-
Which Rainbow did you go to?

  48. Elysse

Do they still do double coupon days on Saturday or did that expire?

    1. Shannon S

Yes they do. Their sign says until Oct (early Oct. 5th or 9th I can not remember which).

    2. Lisa O

I’m in Waukesha, WI and our ads only say Wednesdays??? I’ll double check when I go today…

  49. Shannon S

Does anyone know if the Plymouth Rainbow has any of the Monopoly pieces left? Maple grove is out of them, and while I doubt I will win I still wanted to try!

    1. Rhonda

Maplewood Rainbow is also out of Rainbow:(

      1. Rhonda

        oops out of Monopoly tickets,lol.

      2. Rachel

Apple Valley is out of Monopoly tickets as well.

  50. sara

Holly, where do you find the refil packs? Went to midway this am and they only had 1 pack, so dissapointing.
