*UPDATED* Summer Movie Deals for Kids

This content uses referral links. Read our disclosure policy for more info.

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

If you are looking for inexpensive ways to entertain the kids this summer, there are quite a few movie theater promotions that can help you save at the theater.

In addition to the theaters I’ve listed below, Regal Entertainment Group is also offering movie tickets for only $1 to select movies this summer, which you can read more about in this post.

Bow-Tie Cinemas

Bow-Tie Cinemas is showing free kids’ movies at 10am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 21-August 17. Theaters are located in CT, MD, NY and VA. (Thanks, Susie!)

Carmike Cinemas

Starting this month, you can purchase tickets to select family films for only $1 at participating Carmike Cinemas Theaters as part of Carmike’s 2011 Summer Kid Series. This deal will be available every Thursday at 10am throughout the summer and is available for any age.

During these films, Carmike Cinemas will also offer the Kiddie Tray (which includes popcorn, a drink and a fruit snack) for only $4.

Some theaters will begin this promotion on June 9 while others will begin on June 23, so be sure to make note of this when finding a theater near you using this list of participating theaters.

For my readers in Minnesota, the only participating Carmike Cinemas Theater is in Mounds View.

Cinemark Theaters

Also starting this month, Cinemark Theaters will offer up to 10 tickets to select G or PG-rated movies for only $5 (or $0.50 per ticket) when you purchase in advance at the box office as part of its Summer Movie Clubhouse promotion. Or, if you prefer, you can purchase tickets separately the day of the movie for only $1.

If you are interested in the 10 movie tickets for only $5, you will need to purchase a punch card which is available right now and while supplies last at a Cinemark Theater near you. There’s a limit of 1 person per card, per movie and is valid only at the theater where it was purchased.

You can see if there is a participating Cinemark Theater near you on the Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse website.

Thanks, Savvy Sister Shops!

Lakeville 21 Theater

For my readers located in Lakeville, Minnesota, the Lakeville 21 Theater is offering free admission to select movies every Wednesday at 10am as part of its 2011 Summer Film Series, which starts June 15.

Unlike the previous offers I mentioned above, tickets must be picked up at your local Subway location.

You can view the schedule of movies on the Lakeville 21 website.

Marcus Theatres

Marcus Theatres Kids Rule Kids Summer Film Series promotion will begin on June 21 allowing you to purchase tickets to select family-friendly films for only $2 per person every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10am Offer is available for any age and will go through August 11.

You can view what films are scheduled for each week throughout the promotion and find a participating theater near you on Marcus Theatres’ website.

It looks like most, if not all, of Marcus Theatres are participating in this promotion, so you should be able to find a theater near you to take advantage of this promotion.

Marquee Cinemas

Marquee Cinemas offers free family films each week throughout the summer. Locations are in CT, FL, KY, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TN, VA and WV. Go to the Marquee Cinemas website for a full list of participating theaters and a schedule of dates and selections. (Thanks, Susie!)

Muller Family Theaters

Muller Family Theaters (locations in MN) also have free movies over the summer. Movie selections and dates/times vary by location. Be sure to get there early as seating is first-come, first-served. (Thanks, Shannon and Definitely Deals!)

Rave Motion Pictures

Rave Motion Pictures, with theaters in 20 states, is offering free kids’ movies (G and PG-rated) every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10am for 8 weeks this summer. See your local theater for selections. (Thanks, Susie!)

Theatres at Mall of America

This offer is good year-round: the Theatres at Mall of America shows free select family movies every Saturday at 10am. Seating is limited to theatre capacity and is first-come, first-served. (Thanks, Jennifer!)

Your turn: Do you know of any other summer movie promotion in your area?

  1. Here's the Regal Cinema deal too:

  2. Shannon says:

Mueller Family Theaters also have free movies over the summer. http://www.mullerfamilytheatres.com/theatre.php?t

But get there early they are first come first server for seating and the movies this year are pretty good too!

  3. The Marcus theatre in Rosemount is $2, but hey it says kids of all ages so I assume it is for adults too!! Thanks for the deals, I just have to tell I was blessed to get in on the free eyeglasses at Coastal Contacts and let me just say I love my BeBe's. I would not have been able to afford $128 eyeglasses, paying only shipping of $18 was the deal of the year for me……THANKS!!!!

  4. It looks like all the Muller Family Theaters are funning the free movie promotion. They have theaters in the following locations: Lakeville, Rogers, White Bear Township, Monticello, Willow Creek, East Bethel, Waconia and Delano. Here is the link: http://www.mullerfamilytheatres.com/

  5. Jennifer says:

Mall Of America does FREE FAMILY (yup, all of you get in free!) movies Saturdays at 10 am. http://theatresmoa.com/events-promotions/

  6. SarahBeth says:

Looks like none in Minnesota are participating. Bummer.

  7. Disappointed AMC theaters are no longer doing their $1 old kids movies, due to lack of interest! We discovered it last summer and thought it was great!.

  8. Riverview Theater in Minneapolis has $2 tickets all the time – obviously not on the newest movies, but right now they have Rio, African Cats and Soul Surfer with daytime showings. Their popcorn/treats are also reasonably priced.

I'm sad about the lack of free movies around here this summer – it's always such a great break to hang in the AC for a while…assuming it ever gets hot for more than one day at a time!

  9. Shannon says:

The Riverview is one of the only theatres we'll go to anymore! Gotta love the cheap tickets, reasonable snacks, best popcorn ever and great environment. What other movie theatre do people clap at the end?!
