First-time Aldi shoppers, you’ll need to bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and bring your own grocery bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you. If you don’t live near an Aldi, but can get your hands on an ad remember that Walmart will price match equivalent produce items (if sold in the same quantity, packaging, etc.) and generics if they carry a Great Value brand in the same size/quantity as Aldi advertises.
If it helps you appreciate Aldi a little more, read Wikipedia’s article about them and learn that Aldi is owned by the parent company that owns Trader Joe’s. Don’t forget Aldi’s double guarantee too, where you will get a replacement product AND a refund if you are not 100% satisfied.

Thank you.
Does anyone know, does aldi carry organic milk or produce?
Aga – I have seen organic soymilk and a random assortment of other organic things, but not regular organic milk and no organic produce.
Gotcha, thanks!
Today I noticed the Elk River Aldi’s had a special buy item Almond Milk. sorry i don’t remember the price. Also milk has gone up there too but it’s up everywhere. Might be time to buy a cow! (ha-ha)
I don’t think they do. You may want to check their website though. They are owned by the same company as trader joes so you never know.
Carrie,
Thank you for making this blog! It is fantastic and takes a lot of the guesswork out of frugal living! I was raised frugal being the oldest of 4 kids in a single-income home. As an adult, these ways have stuck with me, but sometimes I find that I can get a little overwhelmed between stores and sales. You simplify this so much for me! I love it! I look forward to Wednesdays at Rainbow every week, it’s my Happy Hour! :) You go girl!

Prices have gone up at my Aldi. Just noticed it today when I went in. Butter is up to $2.49/lb, milk is $2.43, big bag of shredded chz $2.99…
:-(
I know! I’ve seen that too.
Disappointed. The manager told me that it’s because of fuel costs, but some of it has to be opportunistic too.
I saw a few things go up…but Claire, how about you buy cheese in block form for $1.69 and shred yourself? You’re paying more for the convenience. Alsi, I did splurge and buy pre-shredded fit and lite cheddar cheese because it was reducced-fat, and it was $2.39, but it was for 12 oz and the block of cheese is 8! So you need to look at oz!
Rachel, you are right– except, the big bag is 16oz so it is still cheaper than buying block of cheese and shredding it. ($1.50/ 8oz)
Another thing to keep in mind with cheese, is that pre-shredded will often have added mold inhibitors that the block kind will not. Makes it last longer in the fridge.
My toddler loves to snack on cheese and a small handful of shredded is really easy to grab.
Aldi carries two brands of cheese, the Fit and Lite is more expensive, but the regular shredded can be cheaper than the block. At my Aldi the Fit is by the lunchmeat and the regular is in the fridges by the yogurts.
Oh and I meant to say that I LOVE their ground turkey – amazing price.
One thing we do NOT like – their pizza. Yuck….
Lunch meat is a bit iffy if you ask me as well :)
