Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 2/13 – 2/19/11

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

This week Roundy’s stores are offering a number of Buy This, Get That promotions that used with the right coupons could turn into some amazing deals.

If you are new to shopping Double Daze, be sure to read Roundy’s (Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save’s) double coupon policy before you get started to understand all the restrictions of their double coupon promotion.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Buy $20 of Participating General Mills Products, With Roundy’s Card, Get $5 in Free Gas Via Mail-in Rebate

Buy 6 Participating General Mills Cereals, Save $10 Instantly at Checkout, Plus Get Free Gallon of Milk and Dozen Eggs on Future Visit

Notes about these deals:

**UPDATED** Keep your eyes out for a coupon booklet entitled “Pit Stop Savings” that contains a number of General Mills coupons that are eligible for doubling.

The full price value of qualifying cereal for the Buy 6, Save $10 at Checkout also counts toward the $20 you need to be issued a mail-in rebate form for the $5 in gas. Although the ad says “Buy $20 worth” of participating products, versus “Spend $20″ on participating products, you need to have $20 worth of participating products AFTER the $10 comes off for the cereal, should you do the cereal deal, but BEFORE manufacturer’s coupons are applied.

— Check out a list reader Anna put together of regular prices for various General Mills Cereal.

— Printable coupons for any of the products qualifying for these promotions generally say “do not double” whereas coupons for the same products from the newspaper usually can be doubled.

—Typically the coupons for the free gallon of milk and free eggs take off the maximum value of each ($3.25 and $1.50 respectively) versus the actual value of the milk. The coupons historically have been manufacturer’s coupon so I have been able to redeem it at Cub Foods as well. I have even used expired ones at Cub without a problem.

— This is one case where I bring all my cereal coupons with me. It helps a lot when they are sold out of a kind I wanted.

— For the cereal, here’s how I easily figure out if I am getting a good deal. I work backwards. For instance, I won’t pay more than $1 per box of cereal, which would mean my final price needs to be $6 or less for all 6 boxes. From there, add in the $10 I’ll get off for buying six boxes; this means the price for all 6 boxes can’t be more than $16. Then, I add in whatever coupons I have (and double them, if that applies). Let’s say I had three $1 off 2 boxes coupons ($1/2) that could be doubled; add $6 more (three $1 coupons are doubled to equal $6 of discount) to bring my pre-coupon, pre-discount total to $22.00. What is $22.00? That is the highest price that all six boxes can total if I want to buy at a target price of $1 per box. The nice thing about this method is that it doesn’t count the value of the milk and eggs as part of what it takes to reach your target price.

Did anyone else get the new coupon book? Terrific Cut Back Coupon Book…coupons valid 2/17-3/2/11.

  2. bridget says:

So, I can Use and Double manufacturers coupons from Target’s website right?
And, how about Target Web Coupons?
Does Rainbow accept and double both of these types of coupons?

    • Peter says:

Target Web coupons are not manufacturer coupons, they only work at Target.
Manufacturer coupons are supposed to work at Rainbow, but some stores have rules prohibiting the use of a coupon that has a different store’s logo on it. So it depends on your specific store, and often on your specific cashier.

Can I do 6 (or is it 7?) doubling transactions on Wednesday AND another 6 on Saturday, or is it a max of 6 per week? I realize I can still double without putting in my account info, but I want to earn those fuel perks!
    Thank you.

  5. M says:

Is anyone else upset that the 2 General Mills promotions–$10 off 6 boxes and $5 gas rebate on $20–cannot be combined? I feel that the ad is very misleading.

    • Andrew says:

I believe they can still be combined, you just have to actually spend $20 to get the $5 gas rebate. So for example if your OOP after Qs on the cereal is $4, you then need to spend another $16 after Qs on Totinos or Pillsbury rolls or whatever.
It does kind of defeats the purpose of getting the cereal for nearly free when you then have to spend a lot more to get to the $20.

  6. Jennifer says:

Carrie – - I’ve been using your site to plan my deals for months now, and I used to just copy and paste each item with its coupon details into a Word document. I was thrilled to see the checkbox/print option, especially the ones the lay out all the included items in a promotion. Saves me tons of time and my list is so organized now. Thanks!

    • Carrie Rocha says:

You are welcome Jennifer! We tried it about a month ago using some free software I got online, which in turn caused the site to crash. This time we built (someone I hired, I should say) our own software to power this and hopefully *fingers crossed* it works without a problem. Glad you like it!

    • sandraT says:

where is this located th checkbox/print option

  7. Jennifer says:

I bought Theraflu Caplets (24 ct) at Rainbow for $3.97 yesterday. Regular price $5.29.

  8. Robin says:

Does anybody have the information on if you can freeze Pillsbury Grand Biscuits? I thought I saw something about that in a previous week. Thanks.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Robin – I have frozen Grands! in times past. To cook them you either thaw them in the fridge for a day or two before you use them, although I was never proactive enough to do that, or use a sharp knife and slice the frozen dough into biscuit-sized portions, then cook on a slightly lower temp (very non-scientific) for a few extra minutes and they turn out fine. Just now I am thinking, “why didn’t I separate them into biscuits before freezing them?” That would be the easiest thing to do, then freeze them individually on something like a cookie sheet, then when they are frozen solid like hockey pucks transfer them into a freezer ziploc bag, Then you can take out only as many as you’ll use.

  9. sally says:

Carrie, I’m doing my shopping lists for tomorrow & the Cub had the boxes to check no problem, then I went to the Rainbow coupon booklet & the boxes were there. Now I go to the Rainbow list & the boxes are not there. The print your list button is there however. Love this feature.

  10. Marne says:

I spend over $20 on the gas promotion items and then used 5 coupons for some of those items and I didn’t get the $5 gas mail in thing to print at the bottom of the receipt. What should I do? Did they mean you had to spend $20 after coupons? I didn’t see that any where in the ad and I’m disappointed I didn’t get the $5 mail in thing! They were out of the Totino’s pizza and pizza rolls so I couldn’t even use 4 of my coupons and then I found a $1 off 3 boxes of the fruit rolls ups so I purchase those and I know my total still came up to over $20 before coupons. Just want to know if I should go to customer service or what?

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Marne – I’d call either Roundy’s or General Mills customer service and tell them you didn’t get a form. I think they’ll send you one or find another way to honor the rebate. They did with me.

      • Marne says:

Carrie – Do you happen to have a phone number for Roundy’s or Generla Mills customer service? I tried to call my local store today, around 2:45, and it just rang and rang. I don’t know if I dialed incorrectly or if they were just too busy to answer. I triple checked my purchased items and I spend $20.75 before coupons and I really could use that $5 free gas :) Thanks!

      • Marne says:

Carrie – I went to Rainbow yesterday and brought in my receipt showing I paid $20.75 before coupons and didn’t get the gas rebate at the bottom of my receipt and the guy at the service desk said it was because I used coupons. :( Nothing in the ad said you had to buy $20 before Q’s. Also, when I was there in Thurs. I wanted to buy the Totino’s pizzas and pizza rolls (also using coupons) but they were totally out and I didn’t ask for any rainchecks (bummer!) so do you have any numbers that I can call for Roundy’s customer service or General Mills Customer Service? I know I asked last week but I haven’t received a reply. Or am I wasting my time calling them? Thanks for your help!

    • Shelly says:

I thought the final “edict” was that the gas promo was only good if one spent $20 after discounts? Did Rainbow or Gen Mills give you a final answer on that, Carrie? I purchased about $25 worth of qualifying products on Wednesday morning, but with the $10 instant G/M discount, and then my doubled coupons , I was way under $20 and didn’t get the discount. I’m fine with that because I thought that’s what people were told. But if I was supposed to get it, I’d like to pursue it if it’s not too much trouble. Thanks Carrie or anyone that has the official word.

      • Marne says:

Shelly, I didn’t do the $10 instant G/M discount but I wanted to do the $20 to get the $5 gas rebate… I don’t know what the final word is but I wish they’d be more clear in their advertisment!

  11. Jaz says:

    Hi,
How’s the $1/2 Rozoni Smart Taste pasta double? Is it double to the price of the item $1.55 or $2? For free pasta.
    Thanks

  12. kayla says:

On the print out for the gas rebate….it says that you need to send in the original receipt AND upc codes. Does that mean we have to write down all of the barcode numbers on the receipt to mail in?

  13. Alex says:

I noticed the YoPlus 4-packs are regularly $1.99, and there’s a $1/1 coupon in the database that makes them free after doubling (I think it might say “Do Not Double” but the barcode doesn’t start with a 9 so my Rainbow doubles it). I don’t know how long that printable will be around, but would this be an on-going deal?

Also, “Selected 32oz. Varieties” of Yoplait yogurt are $2 this week, and the coupon database lists a $1/1 for those as well. I think what it links to might actually be a $.50/1 coupon but I’ve already printed it so I can’t verify. In any case, either free or $1 yogurt after doubling.
    Alex

The Shopping List is the best thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Martha says:

If anyone still has the $1/1 Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids from the 1/2 Smart Source, I found a great deal at Rainbow on Wednesday….They have an 18 pack (9 complete containers) in a box for $9.99 temporarily marked down to $7.49. After the doubled coupon, it comes to $5.49. Also, it’s a great way to get to your $25 if you’re struggling for the week. And I believe the coupon expires tomorrow (2/19)!

  16. Eve G. says:

Has anyone tried to use the $1.00 off the Simply Orange Juice from coupons.com? They rejected my coupon first by telling me it was a copy, I said no I printed it off my computer and than they used the water mark story! So who do I complain to coupons.com or Rainbow or both? This was the SLP Rainbow West End! I work nights and went on my way home from work so I told them I didn’t want the juice!

    • val-WI says:

i got the SAME thing!!! i usually never have issues with man Q but this one popped up on their screen as DO NOT ACCEPT. It DOES have a water mark of the item next to the actual item, so that isn’t an issue, plus it has the bar code under the exp date and the site is on there with the address of where to mail it to! i am SO confused as i printed it off from coupons.com as well:/ let me know if anyone else has issues, or what they say if you call

  17. Sue says:

I was totally bummed out this morning. I went to Maplewood Rainbow and the cashier I’ve never had a problem wouldn’t double my coupons. I did the cereal deal and a few other things. My total was $17. She scanned my first coupon which doubled then looked at the total and said oops I can’t double your coupons. I asked why and she said my total had to be over $25. I said I thought that the $25 was regular price. She said no. I said it’s always worked that way before and she said no, it’s always been the $25 sale price and they are really cracking down on it now. Anyone else experience this lately? I think I’m going to contact corporate and let them know ithey should program their registers to double coupons when they should double. I don’t think it’s correct accounting on their end to only enter half a manufacturer coupon in their books when they are getting fully re-iimbursed. Plus it’s pretty tacky for a cashier to try and half the coupons, especially the ones that end in five cents! Plus they will not be charging the right amount of sales tax because you don’t pay sales tax on the store’s doubled part of the coupon so the Revenue Dept. I know wouldn’t like their accounting ways. If they don’t want to double your coupon it needs to all be taken off as a manufacturer coupon and their registers aren’t programmed to do it that way.

    • val-WI says:

i agree with you that it IS misleading that some accept dbld coupons before sale price and then to say it’s AFTER is deceiving. Although it’s supposed to be after coupons and sales, i think they should all honor them after for the same reasons as you

  18. Valerie G. says:

Just curious – for the second time, the Rayovac FB coupon was denied at PNS. I sent my hubby for a 9 volt run and he had the coupons denied that he brought. I had them denied in December if I remember correctly. (They get denied by the register, not the clerk.) Anyone else run into this or have suggestions? Thanx!

  19. Karen says:

Hi there. I’m pretty new to couponing (don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner!), and I was wondering if I could use the free eggs coupon and the $.55/2 eggs printable coupon to get 2 dozen at a great price? Or would I have to only use one?
    Thank you!

    • Dawn says:

Karen – I always use the ‘free’ eggs q on the 18 pack to get more than a dozen for free! Not sure what the prices are at your store but our local stores an 18 pack runs the same price as the free egg coupon.

  20. nickmpls says:

wow, dissapointing shopping trip tonight for me, although it was fun to chat for a few minutes with a fellow pyd shopper. All of my internet coupons were denied. I asked the manager an basically, got no information. When she looked at my coupons she said that on the bottom right corner there was a string of letter like “A22691H” and that real coupons didn’t have markings like that but I’d just printed them out earlier in the night from the General Mills coupon site. So idk I feel like rainbow is realizing how good of a deal their double coupon day is and that they’re trying to avoid people using coupons.

  21. Dannelle says:

I see why people aren’t able to double dip on the general mills cereal deal and gas promo…When the $10 instantly comes off (before you have your Roundy’s card scanned) it adjusts the creal box prices in the system. I got 6 boxes of Cinn Burst Cheerios and they went from 3.39/box to either 1.72 or 1.73, bringing my $20.34 combined total down to $10.34.

Since I used six $1 Cinn Burst Cheerios coupons and had $11 taken off (first five doubled) and came out $5.66 ahead on this (coupons + $5 in milk/egg vouchers) – I am not going to spend $9.66 more to get $5 in gas.

Example: Adding 3 more boxes of cereal at $3.39 – using three more $1/1 coupons means $7.71 OOP to get $5 in gas. I would rather used those 3 boxes in a NEW transaction to come out with FREE cereal and more milk/egg vouchers, spending less OOP.

    Make sense?
    =)

    • sandra T says:

so what was you oop was it 10.34-11.00 = -66 + free milk & egg vouchers or did you squeese a filler in there?

    • Dannelle says:

That extra $.66 came off my entire purchase. Here is my summary:

      Coupons used :
Six $1/1 Cinn Burst Cheerios (five doubled), $1/1 Northern TP, 1 coupon book coupon to bring the TP to $5.88 and they took the $10 off instantly

Total, $28.65 for $4.45 AND I got $5 back in milk and egg vouchers for a MONEY MAKER!!!

      Transaction #2
      6 boxes Cinnamon Burst Cheerios @$3.29 ($20.34)
      2 donuts @$.69 (never shop with a kid – sigh….)
      Colgate toothpaste @$2.49
2 milk chugs @$1.15 (well, we HAD to have something to drink with the donut, LOL)
