This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

If you are looking for some new stories to read with your child, StoryTimeForMe.com currently has 31 free online children’s books available. There are three series for you to choose from, including Ben the Mouse, Fern the Fox and Flame the Dragon, which each contain stories centered on the featured characters.

Once you select a series, you will be able to view a list of stories along with a brief description, appropriate age range and run time for each one. To play the story, all you have to do is click on the green “Play Story” button. The site is pretty easy to navigate and doesn’t require registration.

According to the site, Story Time For Me was designed to provide an interactive alternative to TV viewing and video gaming that makes reading fun. It is geared toward toddlers all the way up through kids in 2nd grade. You can also enter their monthly raffle for a chance to win a free personalized storybook by “liking” StoryTimeForMe.com on Facebook.

Other Free Online Children’s Books

Barnes & Noble. Every month, Barnes & Noble features a popular children’s story read aloud by authors and celebrities and accompanied by fun illustrations and sound effects. This month’s free story is Strega Nona read by author and illustrator Tomie dePaola.

A Story Before Bed. A Story Before Bed is currently offering the books Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep and Xander and the Wind for free. If you are unfamiliar with A Story Before Bed, it is a website that offers parents and caregivers the ability to record audio and video of themselves reading a children’s book. Children can watch these recordings anytime they like.

You will need to create an account and have a webcam and microphone connected to your computer to make the recordings. Each book includes illustrations. Over 150 recordable books are available for purchase with prices starting at $6.99.

Still available: A Story Before Bed is giving away 100,000 free recordings for deployed or deploying moms or dads in the U.S. military. As of today (1/31), there are still 20,000 stories to go. We’ve previously written about this promotion and you can read more about it by reading this post.

Your turn: What does your child think of these online reading experiences? Do you know of any other free or inexpensive online children’s story time websites?
