Do you know a woman who is currently undergoing cancer treatment? If so, she may qualify to have her house cleaned for free while in treatment. Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit organization that offers free professional house cleaning service to women undergoing chemotherapy. Numerous cleaning service companies have partnered with this organization, providing services to patients throughout the U.S. and in Canada. Here’s a list of Cleaning for a Reason partners listed by state.
How it works
Once a month for four months, a participating professional residential maid service will come to her house and clean her house completely free of charge. As you can imagine, this is an awesome service I am sure any chemo patient would greatly appreciate.
Women with any type of cancer can apply as long as she is currently undergoing cancer treatment. All she needs to do is fill out the online application and if approved, have her doctor fax a note confirming she is currently undergoing treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will contact the maid service in her area, who will in turn, contact her to schedule the cleanings.
Only 50 applications are accepted each day, with the application process opening at noon (CST) Monday-Friday. A message will be displayed if the application maximum has been reached. It takes approximately 2 weeks to process applications.
Your turn: Do you know of any other free services for cancer patients or others will terminal diseases?

to bad men don’t get cancer
I wish it was for men too! I have a friend who I’m sure could use this right now. Do you know why it’s only for women?
Thanks.
I have no idea why it is only for women, but you can certainly email the host organization and see if they know of any similar resources for men.
I appreciate your thoughts and concerns, and I’m happy to be a resource in any way I can. I would love to expand my teaching into more areas of need and that may happen in time. However, I can offer you a wonderful resource called Neighbors Caring for Neighbors. They can help get you in touch with the services you are seeking right in your community. Hopefully this link will take you there, but if not, just google Neighbors Caring for Neighbors. http://www.allina.com/ahs/mercy.nsf/page/patient_services#neighbors
It’s offered through Allina Hospitals and Clinics and they can get you in touch with services that are donated for cancer patients such as:
Massage
Healing touch
Reflexology
Yoga
Tai Chi
Qi Gong
I’ve taken the needs of breast cancer into special consideration due to the complex healing process of double masectomies, etc… This particular class is very supportive to the physical, spiritual and emotional journey a woman goes through. It’s a safe environment for women to share their stories, laughter, tears and healing together. I hope this information helps foster understanding as to why it’s a class just for women. However, it’s important to hear thoughts and concerns, so I really appreciate the feedback. I will be considering options, so please stay in touch.
Blessings,
Shan~

Why women only?
We do provide this service only to females with any type of cancer. As with any nonprofit organization, the resources are limited. The demand is always greater than what we are capable of handling regardless as to whom we serve. We understand that males undergo the same life crisis issues; however, we cannot serve everyone. Daily we have inquiries to assist individuals with disabilities, heart problems, MS, asthma and various other chronic medical conditions which all have a need for the services. Naturally, the list is endless. We hope you understand that we have to stay focused on what we have decided to be our primary mission.
I am not a professional cleaner but would love to help out people with cancer in my area. Any ideas on how we can get involved in cleaning if its not our profession?
