As Pocket Your Dollars continues to grow and all of you share my site with your friends and family members, chances are that both you and your friends and family are reading about the same deals, which can make buying a gift for them a bit tricky for a couple of reasons. First, you don’t know if they took advantage of the deal you are thinking about giving them as a gift. Second, though they may not have got in on that deal, they would know how much you spent on them if they read about the deal.
I have a handful of suggestions that would make great gifts that can be a win-win situation for both you and the recipient. These are especially great gift ideas if the recipient is a bargain hunter and couponer.
1. All You Magazine Subscription
If you don’t already know, All You magazine (exclusively sold at Walmart) is a great source for coupons and often contains $80-$100 worth of coupons. In fact, many of the Pocket Your Dollars’ weekly shopping lists contain deals you can get free or close-to-free using coupons found in this magazine.
Currently, you can get 30 issues of All You for only $25 ($0.83 per issue) when you order through MagazineFundraising.com. No coupon code needed. If you are looking to spend a little less out of pocket, you also have the option to get 15 issues for $15 ($1 per issue).
If you want to be creative in giving this as a gift, pick up a newsstand copy of the magazine at Walmart for around $2.50, attach a note card telling that person he/she will receive x amount more issues of the magazine throughout the year and then put a bow on it or wrap it up in a box.
2. Star Tribune Subscription
While many people may shrug at a newspaper subscription, this would make an especially useful gift for a person who uses coupons. If you order a Star Tribune subscription through Pocket Your Dollars, you can get 2 free passes to the Water Park of America. Passes are good through the end of December 2011. You can read about the different subscription options and costs by reading Order Star Tribune Subscription: Get 2 Passes to the Water Park of America.
Star Tribune is also offering a really, and I mean really, good deal on a subscription to the Sunday paper valid only for residents of Dakota or Washington counties, but here’s the thing: I am not allowed to publish the details of this offer. You can get details about this offer by emailing StarTribuneSpecial AT pocketyourdollars DOT com (swap out the AT and DOT with the appropriate @ and . symbols), where you will receive an auto response with all the details. Trust me, it’s good!
3. Tickets to Pocket Your Dollars Live 2011
Early bird tickets are now on sale (through 1/15) for Pocket Your Dollars Live 2011. Consider getting your fellow Pocketeer an early-bird ticket to the entire two-day event ($79) or just Friday night ($20) or, if you can’t afford the whole thing, offer to pay for a portion of their ticket.
For more information about the event, visit our EventBrite page or read the early-bird registration post.
4. 2011 Entertainment Book
I absolutely love, love, love the Entertainment Book as it is full of money-saving coupons for everything, including local restaurants, movie theaters, car washes, retail stores and more. I’ve been know to pick up a few of these books when I can get a great deal on them. This would make a perfect gift, especially for someone who likes to get out a lot.
Currently, you can get $10 off all Entertainment Books with free shipping through Entertainment.com. Plus, if you shop through Ebates or Shop at Home, you can earn 35% cash back. Using my local book, the 2011 Twin Cities Entertainment Book which retails at $35, as an example, after the $10 discount and cash back offer, it would only cost $16.25. This isn’t the lowest price we’ve seen for these books, but it can still make for a great gift to give priced under $20.
5. Gift Card for Restaurant.com
Restaurant.com offers a convenient way to save on dining out expenses, and what better gift to give the frugal-minded person? Currently, you can purchase a $25 Restaurant.com gift card for only $2 when you enter code HOLIDAY at checkout (through 12/25).
In turn, the recipient can visit Restaurant.com and use the gift card as payment to purchase certificates, with the potential of purchasing as many as twelve $25 gift certificates when using the promo codes that we periodically post here at Pocket Your Dollars – that’s $300 worth of Restaurant.com gift certificates for only $3.
Your turn: Can you come up with any other gift ideas to give to your fellow Pocketeer friends and family members?

I am upfront about my frugalness and my family all know I can get SUPER deals. However, they also know I pass along my great deals and they probably get more than if I had not gotten a good deal. They also know I don’t epect them to match my numbers because I MIGHT have paid alot less than that expensive item. If I do find a GREAT deal I usually ask the parents if it’s okay. I guess it helps that most of my family is frugal to some degree.
Wow! That Star Tribune deal for Washington and Dakota counties really is a FANTASTIC deal! Though, it’s only for new subscribers. :(
Is it per household, or could you order one under your husbands name?
Thank you so much for letting us know about the StarTribune offer. What a great offer. Thank you for all your hard work to help so many others.
Great ideas! Thanks, Carrie. Hope Santa reads this post.
:)
This idea was given to me by a clerk. It would work great for children or teens or even college dorm students. Buy a box of trashbags and attach a note to it that you will take out the trash until the box is empty! I know a lot of parents that would love to receive this!
Tracey, as someone who hates taking out the trash, that would be a great gift for me to receive!!
