11/1/10 Update: It seems that you will no longer get a $10 Toys R Us gift card when you purchase $35 in Hasbro games. The rebates are still valid and good, but the gift card portion is no longer active. If you read teh fine print in the Toys R Us ad it says the gift cards are available in limited quantity and no rain checks will be issued. They must have reached the limit of the number they will issue.

The fabulous Hasbro games deal at Toys R Us has come around again. When you purchase select Hasbro games (already on sale), you’ll be able to get a gift card deal from Toys R Us plus a mail-in rebate offer from Hasbro to spend as little as $1.57 for each board game! Both Laura and I did this deal last year and still have games on hand that we are planning to give as gifts this Christmas.
If you already have some of these games, considering purchasing donating these to Toys for Tots or Birthday Buddies (if you live in the Twin Cities).
Here are the sale prices (with rebates) as listed in the Toys R Us ad:
- Monopoly, Scrabble and Star Wars $9 ($3 mail-in rebate for each) (the varieties listed in the ad at this price are not eligible for the rebate)
- Guess Who? $10 ($3 mail-in rebate)
- Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders $3 ($2 mail-in rebate for each)
- Ants in the Pants, Don’t Break the Ice, Hi Ho! Cherry-O, Memory $5 ($2 mail-in rebate for each)
You should be able to find the Hasbro rebate form right by the games when you go to Toys R Us, but if you can’t (or you’d just like a preview of what it looks like), you can check out the PDF file here. Toys R Us will also give you a free $10 gift card with any Hasbro Game purchase of $35 or more (offer expires 11/13).
Here’s a deal scenario we concocted for you:
***Deal idea***
Buy 1 Chutes & Ladders for $3
Buy 1 Candy Land for $3
Buy 1 Ants in the Pants for $5
Buy 1 Don’t Break the Ice for $5

Then, submit for $15 Hasbro mail-in rebate (form should be located near the games)
Final price: $11.00 total ($1.57 each) after gift card and mail-in rebate
Your turn: Please share your deal ideas/scenarios in the comments as well as any questions you have about this offer.

We went yesterday and purchased:
(1) Candyland ($1 after rebate)
(1) Chutes and Ladders ($1 after rebate)
(1) Memory ($3 after rebate)
(1) Don’t Break the Ice ($3 after rebate)
I did not spend the $35 and they still gave me the $10 gift card. I asked the girl just to make sure and she just shrugged and said that the computer told her to give me one? Anyway, perhaps the gift card is pre-sales/rebates?
Anyone else have this happen? Again I am not complaining, just curious :)
Did the clerk say why you get the gift card? Does anyone know if there are restrictions on the gift card? Like expiration date or fees to use or ???
Dawn – Having done the deal last year there is an expiration date on it. I saved mine and watched their toys all season. I used it to buy my kids a set of really nice wooden blocks for $7 (normally $34, but were on sale half price, plus my $10 off). I felt like that was a strategic use of it for my family’s needs.
Jenny,
Which store did you go to?
Thanks!
can you do this deal online?
Natalie – I don’t think so as the cashier gives you the $10 gift card at checkout.
I ran to Toys R Us in Minnetonka this morning. It seems they always run out of everything so I wanted to make the trip early. I was very pleasantly surprised to see they have lots of games in stock and were restocking again this morning. But with deals like this I wouldn’t wait until the end of the week.
Here’s what I did yesterday. This comes out a little better than your deal idea.
1 candy land 3.00
1 chutes and ladders 3.00
1 memory 5.00
1 cooties 5.00
1 hi ho cherry o 5.00
…1 don’t break the ice 5.00
1 ants in the pants 5.00
1 don’t spill the beans 5.00
$36oop get back 16 MIR and a 10 gift card
=$10 for 8 games or $1.25 each
Just make sure to get the original games as the themed ones are not on sale except for a select few.
I think the $9 games that are on sale are monopoly JR, Clue Carnival, Star Wars Trouble and Scrabble JR. Those games are not eligible for the rebates. The regular versions of these games are on the rebate form, but are not included in the $9 deal. I think they were like $10.99+. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I was there this morning with my kids and I messed up the deal.
S – You’re right. We didn’t notice that the games listed in the ad are different from the regular version games. Thanks for pointing this out!
To get the $10 gift card, you need to purchase $35 based on the regular price of the games. If the games you buy are on sale, you can spend less than $35 and still get the gift card — and using the MIR, you can actually get them for FREE!! (as long as the regular prices adds up to $35)
I went today to the one in Minnetonka and they had plenty of games. The only thing is watch the Memory game because they have the themed ones mixed in and they are not included in the sale but are included in the rebate. Also if you have a Babies R Us or ToysRus rewards card, it’s free, you get 10% back. It must be on the regular price for the $35 because my total was only 34.32 and I still got the gift card and I did the deal Carrie mentioned.
Marie – Thanks for sharing. I wonder what the regular price is on these games as they’re not listed in the ad.
Here are the original prices (per the website)
-Guess Who? $17.99
-Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders $8.99
-Ants in the Pants, Don’t Break the Ice, Memory $9.99
-Hi Ho! Cherry-O $12.99
My list was similar to Shannon’s but, instead of Chutes n Ladders (I HATE that game!), I wanted to buy Guess Who? Unfortunately, the Bloomington store was out of stock. I bought Scrabble, as it allowed me to get the chocolate version(9.99 value) for FREE! Who doesn’t love FREE chocolate? :-). As for the Memory game, all are included (Disney Princesses, Tigger n Pooh, Strawberry Shortcake, Shrek, and Toy Store. Also, all Candy Land. I bought the Sweets version and I did see Dora.
Thanks for letting us know about this deal again. I took advantage of it last year, too, but bought “older” games to donate. Pre-teen/Teen boys seem to be short-changed at the toy drives. I figured they’d enjoy playing Battle Ship.
I went to the Blaine ToysRUs tonight and you do have to buy $35 in Hasbro games using the sale price NOT the regular price to get the $10 gift card. Either it varies by store or they fixed a glitch in their system?
Blain TRU did not give the gift card at all! My total was over 40.00 and still no gift card! Left the store with nothing!
I went today (Thursday) and when I purchased my $35 worth of toys and asked for the $10 gift card, they said that the deal was over. When I told them that it was advertised through 11.13, they said, “well we ran out of gift cards.” When I asked them how they can run out of gift cards when I saw some right there, they said that they were Hasbro issued ToysRus gift cards, not their regular ones. So I returned some of the games and just kept the ones I was planning on getting. It’s always a bummer when the deal doesn’t work as expected. This was at the Minnetonka store.
Tonight I went to the Maplewood Toys R Us, and bought over $35 (sale price) games. I was not issued a gift card but when questioned the reasoning… which was the hi-ho cherry-o, candy land, chutes and ladders, and operation were MB but on the Hasboro rebate form. Being that was the error she just took $10 off one of my games that I bought as a substitute.
Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers merged many years ago. Then Hasbro bought them up (and from the other days visit I see they bought the Cranium game manufacturer too). So anytime they have Hasbro games deals only around 10% of the games they carry are included.
And if they ran out of the Hasbro issued gc they should issues regular ones seeing as the ad does not state it is a ‘special’ gc. Otherwise it is false advertising. I’d go back to the store and speak to management. Some employees like to pocket the bonus gc for themselves.
Ali,
I went yesterday (11/11) and had the same experience with it not coming up. It makes sense now that I found out that they ran out of the gift cards. After waiting about 15 minutes for them to check everything, one of the managers just took $10 off my Operation game and issued me the $10 gift card.
As for those who have submitted the rebate in previous years, did it take the full 60 days to receive the rebate check? The rebate form says to “allow 60 days,” but sometimes the rebates come faster.
We went to the Maplewood store on the 10th, bought over $35 and did not get the gift card. Since we bought an extra game to reach the $35 threashold I returned it to the Bloomington store the next day. I asked about the gift card, and they said that they were still issueing them. So I returned all the games, and repurchased them to get the gift card, until I got to the register and they didn’t give it to me again! When I complained and said somebody just told me you were, a manager just told me that they ran out of those on Tuesday. I am now completely frustrated at Toys ‘R Us, especially since they still have signage up all over the game areas advertising that there is a $10 gift card.
I was told they are out of gift cards as of Tuesday. The add does say while supplies last but it took me two trips and two phone calls to mangers to get this information.
I sent my husband with the original list and they were out of gift cards but gave him $10 off his total…that was at the Burnsville one. He bought a few other things as well, although I don’t think that really made a difference…
Ditto to what Ms Pink said, the Burnsville Toys R Us gave me $10 off my purchase today. If you ask me, this is better than receiving a $10 gift card!
