It is looking to be a gorgeous weekend in the Twin Cities this weekend, so be sure to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather for awhile. Here are a few events going on this weekend – check the Local Deals archive for more. I myself will be spending the weekend at a cabin near St. Cloud with some friends – can’t wait!
Goodwill Grand Opening Celebration. Goodwill is opening two new stores – one in Hudson and another in Coon Rapids – this weekend. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies will take place at 10am and 1pm (respectively) on Saturday, 10/9. All stores will take 25% off all blue, green and yellow tag items on Saturday and 50% off all red tag items on Sunday. There will also be a silent auction at all stores all weekend.
“Shrek 4” Free Screening. Every Saturday morning at 10am, the Theatres at MOA show a free screening of a family-friendly film. This Saturday’s showing is of “Shrek 4” – be sure to get there SUPER early to get a seat! (Thanks, Frugal Giving!)
Stillwater Harvest Fest & Pumpkin Weigh-Off is this Saturday, 10/9 at Lowell Park. There will be a lot to see and do, including looking at pumpkins weighing nearly 1500 pounds, pumpkin baking and decorating, tractor pull, costume parade for kids, and more. Bring in a gently-used Halloween costume to get a free malt from Leo’s Grill and Malt Shop. Call 651.351.0422 for more information or check out the Harvest Fest website.
Target Family Day at the MIA. The theme for this Sunday (10/10, 11am-5pm) is “Samurais & Warriors.” Attendees can make art projects, check out a European fencing demonstration, explore the art galleries, and more.
Lakeville Pedal the Parks Free Family Bike Ride. Join Will Steger, Arctic explorer and environmentalist at this 2nd annual event at Casperson Park in Lakeville. The event starts at 1pm on Sunday, 10/10. Riders will be led along bike trails all around Lakeville. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be served, plus there will be a drawing for prizes, too. RSVP on the Pedal the Parks Facebook page.
Your turn: What are your plans for the upcoming weekend?

Laura- Thanks for posting these events. I was just asking my husband to do something this weekend and the Stillwater harvest fest sounds perfect!! I’ve been sick for over 5 months and missed most of summer so I’m itching to get out!!! The kids will love it.
Marie – Awesome! I’m so glad you find these posts useful. There’s always so much going on! :)
Laura ~ we’re doing the Lakeville ride on Sunday ~ sounds great. Thanks!
Jane – Great! Hope you and your family had fun.
New Ulm has Oktoberfest this weekend. Perfect day for a nice drive!
I enjoyed (?!) the Clearance sale for Half Priced Books at the Grandstand at the MN State Fairgrounds (Sat. and Sunday).
Tips: bring your own bags (to carry your loot while looking. Ones that you can sling over your shoulder are best so you can keep your hands free to grab more books!). I only went through a fraction of it! Nothing is over $3. Paperbacks seem to be $1. Hardcovers are $2. Children’s books .50 – $1. DVDs $3. They also have CDs, but I didn’t look at them. I walked out with 19 books for $21.53. I’m a huge reader and found many of my favorite authors. There were multiples of some books.
Authors I saw: Dan Brown, Nora Roberts, Christina Dodd, etc., etc. Shoppers are polite and not pushy.
The check-out line appears to be huge, but it does move quickly. The cash only registers are even faster.
Goodwill also has the blue tags half off on Sunday as it is the color of the week. I am excited about the red tag items as they seem be all of the Target clearance items that are given to Goodwill. I was there today and the gal the front said I should be there by 10:30 as there is going to be a line.
