I probably don’t have to tell you this, but gym memberships are expensive. While they are nice to have, you can save a ton of money by finding fun and creative ways to workout for free. Right now, there are several workout videos you can download for free available on the Men’s Health Magazine and Women’s Health Magazine websites.

Playground Workout

No credit card is needed to download these videos. All you have to do is login or sign up for a Men’s Health account, add the selected workout videos to your cart and checkout. (Thanks, Smart Couponing!)

Women’s Workout Videos

While Women’s Health always offers these free women’s workout video downloads, I still think they are worth mentioning. There are over 30 workout videos for you to choose from, including yoga and age-specific workouts. You can download the free videos once you login or sign up for a Women’s Health account.

A nice feature of these videos is they can be viewed on most portable media players, including iPods, iPhones and Blackberry, allowing you to view the video or a slideshow of the workouts while listening to your favorite tunes. Some of the videos include:

Get Lean and Fit in 7 Minutes

Get Fit Anywhere

No Gym Needed

Fat Burning Yoga

Tone Up with Yoga

Stress Busting Yoga

Your turn: How do you cut costs on gym memberships? Have you ever used videos like these?

  1. I actually choose to pay for a gym membership while cutting costs in other areas, however at the moment I have an infanat too young to be left in their childcare area so I work out at home. I have recently discovered that Netflix on line has work out videos. I log in with my sister's account and work out for free! Other free workouts I love include turning up the tunes and moving however I feel like moving. I make up my own aerobics routines and when I don't know what to do I grab some hand weights and walk up and down my stairs. You definitely don't have to spend money to be fit. I like to do squats, lunges, abdominal crunches, push ups, tricep dips and more while I enjoy my favorite music on Pandora (free customized radio on line.)

  2. I joined Anytime Fitness at the end of last January for $34.88 a month. However, my insurance pays $20 a month as long as I go 12 times per month, making my membership only $14.88 a month. It is without a doubt the best money I have ever spent. I can go to any Anytime Fitness and they are open 24 hours a day. I not only use the gym but they have yoga classes and cardio kick boxing classes. Amazing! Oh and I have lost 85 pounds since the beginning of the year. So, check with your insurance and see if they will pay part of your gym membership, I know a lot of them do.
