**Update: Just a reminder that this offer is still available to any student with a valid .edu email address.
Students that have a valid .edu email address and that create an account can sign up for a free one-year subscription to Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime normally costs $79 and entitles you to free 2-day shipping with no minimum purchase on most everything you can buy at Amazon.com. You are, in essence, creating a student account on Amazon and agreeing to receive emails from Amazon with special deals and promotions. If you opt out of the emails, then your free Prime membership cancels. If you won’t be able to resist buying stuff from their marketing emails, then skip this deal because it’ll cost you in the long run. (Note: You can always filter the emails to go directly to junk mail if you’re really concerned about temptation.)
The good news though, is that this is a totally free offer with no risk of an auto-renewal in a year. I just signed my husband up, as he is a graduate school student, and just to be on the safe side I will double check the Amazon Prime settings to be sure that auto-renew is disabled (you’ll find that under “Your Account” and “Manage Prime Membership.”)
I don’t sign up for many free trial-type offers, but every time I can get one with Amazon Prime I do it because, hey…free shipping…need this online shopper say more?
Your turn: How do you keep your shipping costs down when you buy things online?
