Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 9/5 – 9/11/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Many General Mills products are on sale this week, which includes General Mills, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Yoplait, Betty Crocker, Progresso, Green Giant, Nature Valley and all their other brands. Typically General Mills’ printable coupons say “do not double” on them whereas their coupons from the newspaper do not. Keep that in mind as you are reading through this shopping list. If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Most of the final prices listed here assume you shop on Wednesday or Saturday when you can have some of your coupons doubled in value. Restrictions do apply for coupon doubling, so be sure to read Roundy’s (Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save’s) double coupon policy before you get started.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

New to Pocket Your Dollars? Learn to read this shopping list. If you have issues printing coupons, then try the troubleshooting suggestions found here.

Your turn: Did you use coupons for products not mentioned on this list to get some great deals this week too?

Throughout the winter Cook’s hams will sell for a rock bottom price of $0.99/lb. Considering that, you are paying $1.30/lb more than that to get this deal. On a 7-9 lb ham that works out to an extra $9.10 – $11.70 all for the purpose of getting a $9.48 in free groceries ($7.99 for turkey breast and $1.49 for veggies). So this isn’t a rock bottom-type sale, but isn’t a terrible value either. Also, if you aren’t familiar, Cook’s is Roundy’s stores lowest grade of ham – so if you have finicky ham eaters in your family, keep that in mind.

Comments

  1. Jonna says:

I looked when I was at Rainbow yesterday, Nature Valley Granola bars are $2.99 and the fruit snacks are $2.00 a box this week. HTH

  2. Beth says:

Carrie or others- how does the Playtex tampon deal work? I’m not understanding how you would get 3 free? Wouldn’t you have to pay for 2 boxes and get two free, so using the coupon wouldn’t matter?

    • Alison says:

BOGO coupons are always kind of tricky and confusing. Maybe this will help. So you bought 4 and of those 4, 2 were free. Now we’re down to 2 boxes. Think of using the buy one get one free coupon for the 2 boxes you are paying for. Then you are buying 1 box and getting 1 free. Total: pay for 1, 3 free. Does this help?

      • Carrie Rocha says:

Thanks Alison for explaining it better than I did. That’s right.

      • K says:

The coupon from 8/1 SmartSource says “buy one 36ct Playtex Gentle Glide Tampons, get one 18 ct free”. With the deal mentioned above, can we pay for one 36 ct. box and get two 36 count boxes and one 18 count box free? I can’t find the Playtex sale in the Rainbow flyer to see which size boxes are on sale, so I want to be sure that I am doing this one correctly. Thanks.

        • K says:

Looks like the store sale is for the 16-18 ct. boxes only. So, the SmartSource coupon may not be useable with this deal.

  3. Dan Goodman says:

Clear Value Orange Juice gallon $2.98 with coupon. But that’s only 77 cents off the regular price; and probably more expensive than using frozen orange juice.

  4. Brenda P says:

The price on the gallons of Organic Valley milk is pretty good. I like OV because they are midwest/local AND organic. Also, two gallons of milk will go a long way toward your $25 order minum.

One word of warning — make sure the milk is cold enough before you buy it and check the expiration date. The keep it in a separate area of the store in EP and more than once the milk has seemed too warm when I purchase it and then it goes bad before its expiration date. Aso, often the expiration date is much too close to the date of purchase. Look in the back of the cooler for colder, newer milk.

  5. Teri says:

Rainbow also has Cascadian Farms organic cereal or organic chocolate chip bars on sale for 2/$5, I will then use the coupons I have from when I bought boxes in the past which are $1 off 2 doubled makes $2 off 2 boxes so brings the total to 2/$3 and I think $1.50 for organic cereal is a great price!

  6. Chariti says:

There are several great coupons on bettycrocker.com, including a $1/2q for Steamers, which would make them $.50 ADC this week, and there’s a $1/3 Betty Crocker fruit snacks q.

Also, I got a Catalina that said between 8/30/10 and 9/26/10, buy 2 California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas and get $1.00 off your next shopping order, buy 3 and get $2.00 off, or buy 4 or more and get $3.00 off your next order. So if I bought 4 California pizzas in one order, would I get 2 free gallons of milk plus the $3 cat?

    • K says:

The coupons that I printed from bettycrocker.com say Do Not Double. So, the Steamers would be $0.75 each when you buy two.

    • Chelle says:

You have to split up the orders. You will only get one cat for a gallon of milk even if you buy 4 pizzas. If I have my facts straight. I’ve always listen to the helpful people here and only do one ‘deal’ per transaction. Correct me if I’m wrong.

      • Valrie says:

        Hey Chelle,

I actually got 4 pizzas in one transaction and got 2 cat printed for free milk. This has been consistent with my past experience with the pizza deal :-)

  7. Claire says:

I tried the Louis Rich ground turkey and we really didn’t like it. (We use Jennie-O most often.)
    Just my opinion.

  8. Karen Mc says:

    Brenda –

You made a good point about checking the expiration date (especially regarding organic dairy items). The Bloomington store often has items in the case LONG past their expiration date – but I am hoping that will improve since they just completed re-organizing the store.

    • Mary says:

I have noticed the same thing about all of the dairy products at the Bloomington store too.

    • Beth says:

You really have to watch out for all of the refrigerated natural foods- I’ve found ones past their dates, cheese that was supposed to be shredded and it must have melted and cooled into a big blob and other “iffy” natural food items!

  9. Leann says:

The Pillsbury Sweet Moments coupon says DND, bummer since this is my new favorite. And I can’t find the Nabisco 100 Calorie Multi-Pack coupon on their site, can someone tell me where to look? Thanks!

  10. Elizabeth says:

Is the ziplock coupon still working? I can’t find it?
    Thanks!

  11. Judy says:

Anyone able to find/print the Digiorno or California Pizza Kitchen Pizza coupons? I can’t seem to find them.

  12. Flannel Guy says:

Re: Hormel Compleats. I would MUCH rather have a Hormel “Roast Beef and Gravy w/ Mashed Potatoes” for 90 cents than a mystery-meat “Cheeseburger” from the “Wheel of Death” (a.k.a. Vending Machine) for $1.60 at work.

I can just keep a few in my un-refrigerated locker for those times that I forgot a lunch (which is nearly every day).

I really do think that many peoples food budgets fall apart because of work-day lunches.

  13. Judy says:

Klements Breakfast Sausage coupon says do not double on it…

  14. Michele says:

Can you use a Roundy’s milk coupon along with a manufacturer’s coupon?

  15. Amanda says:

Does anyone know if the betty crocker frosting is also $10/10 or is it just the cake mix?

  16. Michele says:

Oops, was not thinking yet this morning…of course you can’t use a Roundy’s milk coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon…silly me

  17. Melissa says:

I did a few price checks on my lunch break. The Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner are 3.29 regular price. The styling products are 3.39 regular price.

The playtext tampons BOGO is indeed on the 18 count. The 18 count boxes are $4.99, the larger box is 7.99.

These prices are from the Plymouth Station Rainbow.

  18. Renee says:

I looked through the 8/1 Smart Source two times and I couldn’t find the coupon for Arnold Bread. Did some people not get this in their Smart Source?

  19. Amber says:

Does anyone know if the milk catalinas generated by the General Mills promotion take off the full $3 value per gallon of milk or are they the type of coupons that only take off the actual price of the milk? Knowing this would help me decide if it’s worth it to do this deal! :-)

  20. jean says:

I went to retrieve some coupons but most are DND….so, many listed are not at the reduced price using coupons that I was given website to go to. ANYONE else seen that problem I am running into?

    • Amber says:

Jean – many (if not all) the General Mills printable coupons are usually Do Not Double :-( if those were the coupons you were talking about

  21. Melissa says:

    Help!

If the BOGO deal on the playtex tampons are for the 18ct only, i don’t understand your deal scenarios….wouldn’t it be by 1 at $4.99, use a $1 coupon, after doubling it would be $2.99 for 2? Maybe my earlier post wasn’t explicit enough but its only the 18 count that are BOGO.

  22. mollie says:

I thought I’d mention I think 59 cents each is a pretty decent price for green peppers; I generally prefer the red, but when they’re this cheap I’m not picky.

  23. Carrie says:

When I was at the Richfield Rainbow today they had tresseme products for $2. the shampoo, conditioner, and hair styling products. They’re originally $3.99, and cub has them on sale for $3.50.
They also had wet ones for $1.50. I picked up only 1 container of those to see if I like them. I have 2 toddlers, and they’re good for messy hands on the go! And they’re alot cheaper than using wipes.

  24. Lori says:

I did the General Mills deal at the SV store today and the coupon for the milk did not print. Customer Service ended up giving me a $5 gift card to off set the price of milk. The automatic $3 did come off my total.

    • Mary says:

The 2 $3 off milk coupons printed for me! The catalina printer is very slow, and prints quite a bit after my transaction is over.

  25. Sandy says:

Woot! Woot! Cleaning out coupon stash and what should I find? Two canta coupons for Scott Natural Napkins $1/1. Happy day….!

  26. Holly says:

When does Rainbow stop doubling coupons on Saturday??

  27. Mary says:

I had a $5 oyno from the Kraft cheese deal at Cub. I asked the cashier at the Bloomington rainbow if I could use it at Rainbow and she said Yes! It needed to be a manufactures catalina, and it was, I was so happy!

  28. Connie says:

Just purchased 3 ziplocs (had a b2g1 coupon), received a $2 cat. Not sure if it would be triggered on 2, but worth a try. With the 2/$3 sale, and $1/2 coupon, made them more than free.

    • e says:

Great deal! Do you remember where you got that coupon?

    • Leann says:

Thanks for your help Connie! After a huge mess at the Rockford Road Rainbow I finally got my cat. for all 3 to print. BTW, DON”T go to register #5 it’s not printing cat’s at all! Here’s what I finally got.

With 6 ziplocks it printed 2 cats for $2 off each
      With 5 Pillsbury products I got a $2 off
And with 6 boxes of GM Helpers I got $3 off

Not a bad take, even if it did take the manager 4 registers to finally get them all to print! Thanks Connie, if you hadn’t told me about the ziplock I would have been out $4!

Total today $72.71 worth for $23.18 and I have $9 off OYNO!! Made my day!

    • Connie says:

You can buy 6 in one transaction and get 2 $2 cats.

  29. Emily says:

It appears the Eagan Rainbow is cracking down on not doubling DND coupons. I went to a cashier today who I know has doubled all coupons before and she wouldn’t do it. When they say DND they have to manually enter half that amount because it still doubles. You have to watch though – She halved my 75 cent off coupon to 35 cents, which doubled to 70, so I didn’t get the full value. I just sent a message on the Rainbow website saying they need to make their policy more clear and consistent and let us know so we don’t get surprised (and that they also need to improve the system so “human error” mistakes don’t happen).

So, I was a little disappointed. I did the granola bar/fruit snack deal with coupons for everything, and paid 12.48 for 3 Nature Valley granola bars and 3 fruit snacks. If you count the two free milks, that’s 7.48 for six boxes, which isn’t bad, but I probably wouldn’t do it again.

  30. erica e says:

I believe the doubling will stop on the 25th of Sept.,but that will probably change again.

  31. Chelle says:

Just in case nobody can get a hold of the $3 off Whisk coupon Bettycrocker.com has $1/1. Not sure if it is a DND. There also is a $1/1 YoPlus there. :)

Anyone know if the DiGiorno Pizza + Breadsticks is included with the milk deal?

  32. Chelle says:

Also want to mention there’s $1/1 Cook’s ham coupon in the April issue of Family Circle.

  33. Lisa says:

There is a manufacturer’s coupon on the Target website for $1/2 California Pizza Kitchen that you can double.

  34. Amanda says:

I went to PNS earlier and had a weird situation. I bought 10 vitamin waters because I had found a tear pad with $1/2 coupons from a gas station…They did say DND but started with a “5″. My PNS has always doubled the DND coupons. When the time came, the coupon doubled to .09. The reg price is $1.09, so it doubled to shelf price. What confuses me is that the coupon was off of 2. The manager was right there and said “well sometimes coupons don’t double the whole amount” and the cashier said “well it says DND” and they weren’t going to give me the rest of the amount, so I didn’t end up buying anything and had them void the order. I’m just confused because it did double, just not to the right amount–it seems like what is going on at Target right now. Any ideas? I may go back and try it again on Sat and see if a different manager is there. Thanks for your help

  35. Jennifer says:

kool-aid fun fizz is only $1.84 at the store I went to.

  36. Lee says:

I did some price checks for those of you planning to shop on Saturday: The Schick Hydro gel was on sale for $2.54 so $0.54 after doubling the $1.00 coupon. The Schick Hydro razors are on sale for 7.49 (Hydro 3) and 7.87 (Hydro 5), so still too much even with the $5.00 coupon. Don’t forget about the bonus box tops that print if you buy 10 or 15 box top products. I’m sure your schools will be happy to get them!

  37. Sara says:

The Barber Chicken coupon from All You does not double. (There is a 9 in front of the barcode)

  38. Lee says:

Another price check that I forgot to mention–Betty Crocker Frosting is on sale for 1.66 (Regular 1.99). So frosting plus cake mix using the 0.75 coupon doubled was $1.16.

  39. Tonya says:

I had two Catalina updates print out at Rainbow this week.
Buy Digiorno small Pizzas, flatbread melts or 200 calorie portions between 9-6-10 and 10-3-10 and save up to $4.00 Buy 3 and get $2.00, Buy 4 and get $3.00 Buy 5 or more and get $4.00 coupon off your next shopping order.

Buy Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescents, cookies, sweet rolls, grands biscuits, grands cinnamon rolls, pie crusts, dinner rolls, loaves, breadsticks or pizza crust, between 9-6-10 and 10-3-10 Details…Buy 4 and get $1.00,or buy 5 and get $2.00 or buy 6 or more and get $3.00 coupon off your next shopping order.

Just a thought, but could Pocket your Dollars make a spot were people can post catalina stuff like this? so you don’t have to read through comments but could just search for available offers?

    • Laura Wales says:

Tonya – Thanks for the update! Carrie and I try to keep track of the catalina deals that we see in the comments and that get emailed to us, but we don’t always stay on top of everything. We’ll take your suggestion into consideration. :)

    • val-WI says:

i think it would beGREAT it others posted their shopping trips somewhere here as well. I am new to couponing( well fairly new) and i would like to see some examples of all you excellent coupon shoppers that have this down pat! it would help me tremendously in my couponing “sport” :) just an idea

  40. Kathy says:

Regarding the catalina on the zip-locs: Does anyone know the dates for this promotion? I had to get a rain check last night as all the bags that were on sale for 1.50 were gone.
    Thanks!

  41. April says:

I’m confused. I see that this is a list for Roundy’s supermarkets, but when I went to my local Copp’s store (in Madison, WI) none of these items were on sale. Does this only work in Minnesota??

  42. Lisa O says:

At my Rainbow (Coon Rapids Riverdale) they had a sign on Wed that if you bought 8 boxes of Kelloggs cereal they were 1.88 each. There are coupons for $1 off 2 (any box and another that’s off of Rice Krispies), which would make each box 88cents! I’m going back on Sat!

Also, the 8 pack small juicy juice boxes are 2.19 ea, and with the coupons on their website for $1 off 2, it’s not too bad. I couldn’t find the $1 off one??

  43. Jennifer says:

Back in June, there was a sweepstakes coupon at the end of the receipt. I sent it in. Today I got in the mail a free 1/2 gallon of Kemp’s milk coupon. Rainbow doesn’t take any free coupon. Why they send me a free coupon?

  44. Jennifer says:

A few months ago I handed a free mfr coupon that I got in the mail from the mfr. It is at the Rainbow either of the one near the North Town mall or the one on Central Ave. They refused to take it. It was very clear that it wasn’t something I printed from the internet. There was watermark on the coupon. Yet they refused.

    • Amber says:

I think it depends on the Rainbow store. I tried using a coupon for a free jumbo package of Pampers diapers Pampers maild to me and it was this huge ordeal. Several people came over to look at it and each one of them said they couldn’t take it (even though it had a watermark and was mailed to me from Pampers). It was a $8.99 value. I finally asked to talk to the manager and after a long conversation with him, he agreed to take it but wrote down everything on my drivers license. I thought it was a little extreme but I can see where he was coming from.
SO, I would stop by the customer service desk before your shopping trip and ask if they will take the coupon and explain how you got it. If they say no, then I would ask to talk to the manager. If the manager still says no, I would write to corporate. Hope this helps!

  45. Kara says:

I’m in WI and my ad is a later than yours…my question is does anyone know if the Golden Graham or Chex cereal bars are included in the “Buy 6 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks or Granola Bars at Regular Price, Get $3 off at checkout and coupon for 2 free gallons of milk on next purchase when you use your Roundy’s card” promotion? They are General Mills products.

  46. Jennifer says:

There is a Ziploc coupon for $1.50/2 on the Right at Home website. Someone may have already posted it (sorry if I missed it). Even though it won’t double it is still a great deal with the sale and Catalina. I hope the store is restocked with the $1.50 size on Saturday.:)http://www.rightathome.com/Offers/Pages/default.aspx?oid=64637

  47. Bridgette says:

has anyone used the Van De Kamps MQ? “buy any Van De Kamps and receive a free package of Birds Eye Frozen Veggie Steamer”…last night Rainbow had V D Kamps on sale 3.34 for fillets and sticks (big boxes by the way). i purchased one of each picked up my 2 free veggies and at the register the Qs rang up for 3.00 off each!! plus i had a 2.00 Rainbow catalina. so it was like paying .34 for each box of V D Kamps and getting 2 big packs of veggies free!! has anyone had the same issue?

    • K says:

Nice deal! Lucky you! I wanted to do the same at my Rainbow today, but the one in Eden Prairie won’t take the internet coupons that say “free” on them.

  48. K says:

I’m curious. Can all of the printable coupons from the Target site be used at other stores too? They ones I printed say “manufacturer coupon”; some have the Target logo; others do not. There is one out there for save $1.00 on 2 California Pizza Kitchen pizzas. There is also one for save $1.00 on the Pillsbury Sweet Moments desserts. Both items are on sale at Rainbow this week. Will Rainbow accept those coupons and double them too?

    Thanks.

  49. maria says:

The chi chi’s fiesta link took me to betty crocker, and there’s no coupon there.
The betty crocker frosting link took me to some cool saving survey sign up monstrosity.
I was also not able to find the nabisco coupon 100 calorie snack coupon where the link took me.
I was able to find casdian coupons on their website I just signed up with a new email address. : http://www.cascadianfarm.com/coupons/default.aspx

    • Laura Wales says:

Maria – Sorry about the extra searching you had to do. Sometimes links expire during the week that we post them and sometimes it’s just plain our fault for putting in the wrong link. We rely on readers like you to keep us updated on which are not working anymore, so thanks for the update! I’ll check into the ones you mentioned and update the list.

    • Laura Wales says:

Maria and all – One more thing: we installed a new link plugin two nights ago that may be causing some of these links to redirect, too. I’ll let Carrie know that there’s an issue and we’ll work on getting it fixed.

  50. billie says:

I was just at the Rainbow in Eagan. I had printed out one of the buy a Van De Kamps get a free steamers vegetables item up to 2.99.

The cashier scanned it and it took $3 off. Then she removed it and told me she could not take that coupon. That most of the coupons like that are frauds from the internet. First I had heard they wouldn’t accept those type coupons. I even asked if she could manually enter in the exact amount of the item and she said no.

    • Laura Wales says:

Billie – Roundy’s stores do not accept any Internet printed coupon with the word “FREE” on it, whether it’s a Buy One Get One Free coupon or a Free Product coupon.
