I received my Neutrogena Clinical rebate this week–be on the look out for it in your mail :)

  2. eva says:

This week has been great! Got the Menards rewards, got the staples rebates and a free PopTart to boot!

Say, my teen has just received contacts … where do you get cheap contacts? There must be aplace to go to get the best bargain for our buck and I think someone out there knows of at least one ….

    Have a great day!

    • Paulette says:

When my husband was wearing them he found the best deal at america’s best.

    • Alison says:

I usually get the prescription from the eye doctor and then order them online. I’ve used Vision Direct several times, in conjunction with eBates (11% back).

In fact, I’ve got an eye appointment today and may do the same thing!

    • Lauren says:

I used to buy mine from 1800 contacts, but I heard there were cheaper places out there, so I started looking and found a much better deal. I think I got mine at lens.com, and you can google online for coupon codes, like $5 off a $50 purchase, or different percents off. Search around online for the best deal, and I also like to search for reviews on different sites to make sure they’re legit. But I think lens.com is the best I found – it might also depend on the brand/type of contacts you are looking for.

    • Cali Chick says:

Please let me know when you find a cheap place for contacts. Thanks.

    • Sheridan says:

I used to get great deals from Sam’s Club, and I don’t think you had to be a member.

    • Erika says:

I have worn contacts for years, tried many stores, online, 1-8oo-contacts. I get the best price on my lenses everytime with vision direct. I still check the competitors, yet buy from vision direct. Free shipping, price match, if your prescription changes they will swap your remaining lenses (even open boxes) for the new script, again all shipping on them. This could be especially important in a teen if her vision changes rapidly. All rebates are taken off of the total at checkout. This spring when I ordered I had an email competitors coupon for 2o percent off. Vision direct had the best price by far and still gave me instant rebate, plus 2o percent off. Got 2 years for the price of one year at the price of nearest competitor. Always peased. Look online for deals and coupons, then call them. PRICE MATCH plus their guarntee- I highly recommend Vision direct.

  3. Dana says:

We just started to order through Wal-Mart they are associated with 1-800 contacts.

  4. marie says:

Has anyone seen men’s summer shorts go clearance 75% off yet? If so where. I’m on bedrest and can’t get out but my husband is desperate for some.
Also, if you go to Fisherprice.com and click on Trio free race car you can get a free trio car. Now yesterday the site was getting slammed and it took awhile but eventually it works. If you get through one step and then get a message like “Due to high volume…” just hit the back button as it saves the page you were on and keep trying this.

  5. Tirza says:

Does anyone have any solutions, ideas or lists for store and which brands they carry or don’t? For example, I don’t want to waste my time pulling Dole fruit cup coupons only to get there and then that store/location only sells Del Monte fruit cups. I’m not always able to go to the exact same Target/Walmart, etc and depending on their size/location the selection if diff at most of them. I’m about to make myself a document of store/location/brands. Any ideas?

  6. Tiff says:

Does anybody have any experience with Fare for All? Specifically the New Hope Cash-and-Carry location? Thoughts/Opinions?

    • Lynn says:

I love Fare for all – we have an Express location near us, once a month we go pick up their regular pack (it’s all pre-boxed for you) – for $17 you get 4-5 meat packages and 8-10 fruit/veggie items, then 2 bread items you choose. Meats are often name-brand & are already frozen. I love it cuz it’s hard to find coupons for produce and real meat not junky meats (ex. nuggets, hotdogs, fishstix). Not sure about your location; i know the traditional site you pre-order, Express is you walk in, they have the 3 choices of packages displayed, you chose from that and they put it in a cart for you. Seasonally they also throw in extra cukes or zukes too. Best part – it takes about 10 min. to shop!!

    • Therese S. says:

The Eden Prairie location has short lines and TONS of free stuff most months (if you purchase from the table)

You don’t need to pre-order; they usually sell three table items (vegetable package, small meat package or combo package (vege and meat).

      • Alison says:

where is the EP location – I might be interested in this location. It’s one Saturday a month, right? Maybe I better check out the website, but thanks for any information you have. I don’t want to have to pre-order.

    • Melissa says:

I think it’s one of those things you just have to try yourself to see if you like. My husband went once last summer and I thought it was a good deal. The fruits were not too too fresh, was my only complaint. But all in all I thought it was a good deal. I have a friend who went and wasn’t impressed at all, so it just depends.

      • Aga says:

ditto on the freshness comment- best if you plan to somehow process (freeze, cook) the produce right away as I’ve gotten a couple rounds with mold that I had to trim or throw. Since you get it in a closed box, you don’t really see what you are getting until you are through the ‘assembly line’ and out the door. Actually stopped going because often the coupon deals work out to cost the same or less and I can pick my own produce.

  7. Niki says:

Wondering if anyone could help me out on a question about Cub Foods? I know they take expired coupons up to 3 months but has anyone ever heard of a location taking them up to 5 months expired??? Thought I read that Eden Prairie did. But why are the rules different from store to store?

    • JoAnna says:

Niki–I agree that it is very frustrating and confusing when each store’s Q rules are different (when they are the same store). I believe Cub is diff due to being a corporate store and a non-corp store? EP Cub is great for taking Qs that are very expired and taking Register Rewards, too.

  8. Andrea says:

Does anyone know where to get a good deal on a mattress? My three year old is moving into a big girl bed and we need to purchase a mattress. We are in NJ, so for all you Minnesota gals I’m looking for a website or a national chain or some other idea. thanks

    • Mesha says:

      Andrea,
We went to Ikea to get our daughter’s mattress for her big girl bed. I think it was 80-90 dollars and they have a great warantee. I spoke with one of the workers in that deptarment and he mentioned that at about 10 yrs of age she would need a new one anyway and to take advantage of the cheepest one there for now. Not sure if you live by one, but we have been very happy. You can also zip off the cover on the mattress and wash it.

    • SarahBeth says:

      You could always try http://www.overstock.com

  9. marie says:

    Tiff,
The Fare for All in New Hope is a great place. Now it changes weekly and I believe you can check their website to see what the packages are for the current week.
Another option might me the Angel food ministries. They also sell packages at very discounted prices.

    • Patty says:

I have not done Fare for All for many years. I think it used to be call Fare Share and you recieved a food box once a month. I recently tried Angel food ministries and liked it. Many churchs participate and you should be able to find a church near you that is a distribution site. Check out their website for all that information

    • WendyH says:

I have done their Express in the south-west suburbs a few times and have been mostly happy with what I have gotten, the fresh fruit is the only thing I’ve had issues with on rare occassion. You aren’t limited by income or how many distribution centers you go to during the month. http://www.emergencyfoodshelf.org/OurFamilyOfPrograms/ffa/

I haven’t kept track of what I’ve gotten recently, but an example from Feb:
Meat package was $12, Vegetable package was $10, purchase both for $17

meat included: 1 lb bacon, 1 lb pollak fish fillets, 1 lb turkey breakfast sausage (Jennie-o) and 1 1/4 lb chicken breast (Golden Plump) all frozen
Veggie package included: 1 head cauliflower, 1 head lettuce, 2 grapefruit, 3 oranges, 4 apples, 1 lb carrots, 2 lb yellow onions, and 5 lb russet potatoes. One of the oranges was squshy and not good, but the rest were just fine.

    • Tirza says:

We love Angel Food boxes too, we’ve only not liked the fish stick/patties & one other ‘stirfry’ type one time.

  10. marie says:

    Patty,
Keep trying. I just checked and it’s up still. It just takes awhile to get in. yesterday i tried alot in the afternoon and then in the evening it took over an hour but i was able to do it. You have to just keep trying.

  11. marie says:

Andrea- we got our’s at Sam’s club. They had 2-3 to pick from and they were either $89 or $99. We’ve had them over a year now and no problems. At 3 they don’t really need anything fancy. And I believe the ones we got were Serta, so a namebrand.

  12. marie says:

Patty- sorry about that. They must of ended it late last night because I know others were still able to get in. But they had a huge response to it and the site was slammed yesterday. Hopefully, they’ll run it again.

  13. JoAnna says:

(Chaska) Super Target has 12 pks of Pepsi products for $1.99. I just used the Target Mtn Dew Q for $1 off. The 12 pk was $1.06 with tax. Super deal!

  14. Linda says:

Does anyone know of a good (inexpensive) place (in MN) to buy a quarter or half a cow? Is it worth the money versus getting meat sales at the stores? The places I’ve checked out come to around $5/lb, which is good for steaks, but not good when it has 30 lbs of ground beef.

    • MichelleC says:

Linda, we’ve gotten our beef at Greg’s Meats in Hampton, and they are awesome; in past years we’ve done a quarter and the past two we’ve done a half. This will last a year for our family of 5 (oldest child is 8). I just picked up this year’s beef on Tuesday — 355 lbs for just under $800, so it all came to $2.25/lb. They will put you in contact with a beef farmer to schedule, and will cut and package the meat to your specifications (# steaks per package, # lbs per roast, etc). I like the convenience of having everything in my freezer, plus the peace of mind knowing that I don’t have to worry about any meat recalls.

    • Morgan says:

Try this link…its a local farmer too. I haven’t gotten stuff from them so I don’t know how it is but the prices seemed reasonable to me but I’m also new to looking at buying meat this way.

  15. Eva says:

    Thanks Dana Alison and Paulette!

  16. Mary says:

Did anyone receive their notice from Target Redcard explaining the changes to their program? Am I understanding it correctly that there will no longer be points but we will save 5% off every single purchase at Target made on the Redcard?

  17. Kari says:

Has anyone seen the new gain dishsoap sold anywhere? If you have how much is it per bottle?

  18. Patty S. says:

Good Morning! My sister would like to take her family to the Science Museum today. Any discounts available? TIA :-D

  19. Susie says:

Anyone have a rock bottom price for dishwasher tabs? Thanks!

    • Amber says:

Susie, the lowest i’ve been able to get the Cascade dishwashing tabs for is $2.74 after extra care bucks this week at CVS. They are on sale for $3.99 plus use the $.25 off coupon in the Procter and Gamble insert and get 1 Extra Care Buck back. Otherwise, I usually see them around $3.50 or so at Target and Wal-mart

  20. LORI says:

    Mary,
You are reading this correctly, the 5% target discount will be for all purchases made with their card …the change was discussed in an article in the Star and Tribune a while back. So if you don’t already have a Target card, you can get one now and save 10% that day, and save 5% all the time when the new program starts.

    • JoAnna says:

Lori–when did you receive your info? Where are you located? I just received my statement this week in the mail and there was no info at all. I did receive my 10% rewards card though.

  21. Morgan says:

    I have a few questions:

Does anyone know if the Forest Lake Rainbow is turning into a Fresh Rainbow?

Does anyone know more about this CVS Beauty Coupon book that you can by for a buck? Is it any good? Are they just makeup coupons?

Does anyone use those portable AC units over running the central air in the home? Does it help you save money on your electric bill?

I’ve had to go Gluten Free and since reading Sara Snow’s book want to start going more organic too….does anyone have good tips to do this without breaking the budget, any good coupon books to buy etc?

    Thanks Everyone!!

    • sheepy says:

I used to live in apartments with window units. I have SAVED a lot of money by moving into an apartment with central air. The air turns itself off when it gets cold enough instead of running all night when I fall asleep. The only downside is that I now also have to pay for heating, but that hasn’t been as expensive as I had budgeted for, so it works out great. I would never go back to a window unit if I had the choice, and I can’t imagine it would really be cheaper unless you only run it an hour or two total per day and close off all of your home except that one room.

    • Sharon says:

I have window AC units in my old house & they are not cheaper than central air. Someday I hope to get a new furnace & will definately upgrade to central air at that time. I’ve checked with friends & family who have central air & their electric bills in the summer are a fraction of mine.

    • Nate says:

We recently moved from a house with central air to one with a window unit. I was shocked to get our first electricity bill and see that it was double what we used to pay. A window unit may be cheaper if you use a small one and only cool a single room at a time, but if you’re trying to cool your entire house on a really hot day, central air is going to be cheaper.

  22. Kari says:

Morgan we have a portable ac unit- 11,000 btu and it works ok but if we had central AC we would be using that. It was spendy to get and it doesnt cool as well as I thought it would. The good thing was our electric bill didnt go up much by running it.

  23. Brenda P says:

Is there a list somewhere on PYD (or elsewhere) with a master list of all the sites such as Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.? I’m sure there are some that I am missing. I’ve had such good luck using them. Thanks.

  24. Therese S. says:

Ok, I need to vent about CVS. I just received a postcard in the mail stating that “As a Top Customer, I deserve a special discount”

This discount is 20% off my entire purchase* (did you see the astrisk)

Reading the fine point the discount EXCLUDES – sale merchandise, discountinued merchandise, milk, bread, alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, prescriptions, postage stamps, pre-paid cards, tobacco products, newspapers and magazines.

So this “special discount” is really not that special.

I will only shop at CVS if an item is on sale and I have a coupon. Plus the coupon is only valid two days (September 11 & 12)

  25. Melissa says:

If you create an account on Vision Direct’s website and put some items in your cart and then close the web browser they will send you a coupon via email for 10% off etc to entice you to buy from them.

  26. Katrina says:

The %10 off for new accounts will be ending next month. To get the best deal you could open a card now(one time use for the %10), then every purchase after the program starts would be %5 off. I am %90 sure the Target Visa will also be canceled/transfered to a reg Target card only for Target. There is a new Target Debit Card that will give you %5 off every purchase and no interest as it is processed through your own bank (I haven’t heard of anyone that doesn’t like that or that it didn’t work with their bank).

    • Mary says:

I love the 5% off and I’m sure I will end up saving more at Target than I did before with the occassional 10% discount. But I will certainly no longer be putting any other charges on my Target Visa anymore since there is no incentive to earn points.

      • SarahBeth says:

Mary – that is exactly what I thought. I wondered why they were doing this because yes, I’d love 5% off my Target purchases, but the reason I was putting other large items (airfare, gasoline, etc) was so that I could rack up my points. And I’m sure there are plenty of others who were doing this as well. I guess now I will be using a different rewards card for everything besides Target purchases.

  27. Katrina says:

The 10% off for new accounts will be ending next month. To get the best deal you could open a card now(one time use for the %10), then every purchase after the program starts would be 5% off. I am almost for sure the Target Visa will also be canceled/transfered to a reg Target card only for Target. There is a new Target Debit Card that will give you 5% off every purchase and no interest as it is processed through your own bank (I haven’t heard of anyone that doesn’t like that or that it didn’t work with their bank).

  28. JoAnna says:

I just had lots of fun at Cub in EP :) I did 3 separate tranactions (went to car each time).

5 Kraft shredded cheese=$10, then -$5 for the Kraft coupon and I used $4 in Register Rewards so I paid $1 and received the $5 catalina!!

Same as above but I also bought 2 Kraft ranch dressing for $1 each and used the Fall into savings coupon for $1 off when you buy 2 dressings. I used $4 in RR again so I paid $1.98 for the 5 cheeses and 2 dressings and then received the $5 catalina.

My last transaction was for 5 cool whip=$5-.20 manu Q and $4 in RR. Total was .98 oop and then received the $5 catalina.

  29. Lori says:

I haven’t received anything in the mail about Target’s new 5% everyday discount when using their card but here is the web address with the article detailing the changes..says it is going countrywide.

  30. Sue says:

My gas dryer runs but is not drying my clothes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who to call to find out if it needs replaced or just fixed? Also, if it needs fixed, any suggestions of where to get an inexpensive dryer? I am open to either gas or electric dryer. Thanks for any information.

    • Jae says:

I don’t know if Sears has the best price on appliance repairs but we used them when we were having a problem with our washer. And we were happy with the service.

    • MichelleC says:

Sue, before you call for repairs, check the venting tube from the machine all the way outside to see if it is plugged with lint. A lot of times the lint fills up the tube and the machine can’t work properly. If that is the case, just pull all the lint out and see if the clothes will dry.

      • Sue says:

My husband did clean out the vent and made sure everything was cleaned out but it is just not heating up like it should. Being that it is a gas dryer, we are both nervous about taking it apart to check the ignitor switch.

    • Melissa says:

Is it covered under Service Plus? We have had a tech out many times for various appliances we have covered. When here we ask a question about this or that and the tech always has said, just call and add it and in a couple of days, call back and say it’s not working. We ended up adding our dryer when our washer died. A few months later the dryer died, we had them out and they pretty much replaced everything for “free” (you pay a monthly service fee for having each appliance on your plan). We’ve found this to be well worth it!

    • Amber says:

      Sue,
That has sometimes happened to my dryer and I never figure out what caused it. Maybe try tomorrow or even try a different load (that is lighter). A few years ago, our washer stopped working and since it was a stacked unit we needed to get a WHOLE new stackable unit. After a month of searching, I found a great sale at Menards and paid $1200 (before tax) for a Whirpool stackable, front-load, HE washer and gas dryer.
Otherwise, stop by your post office and pick up a new movers envelope (just ask for a change of address envelope). It has a 10% off any purchase at Lowes but can be used at both Home Depot and Menards (they accept competitor’s coupons).

    • Ann says:

Sue – the problem may be a burned out glow coil. Check online for your dryer instruction manual – it may include instructions for removing and replacing. You should be able to buy a replacement part at Sears or another appliance store. I don’t think this is a difficult do-it-yourself repair but I’ve only watched my dad do it – have not attempted it myself:)

      • Carrie Rocha says:

Also check RepairClinic.com which has great do-it-yourself repair instructions for all types of appliances. We’ve used it a number of times to fix things and had good success.

    • Our dryer did the same a few years ago and it was the igniter. We had a repairmen fix it and it was much cheaper than buying a new one. (We used a local appliance company. To be honest, we looked at an appliance store to possibly replace and told them the problem and they said, that is an easy fix, we do that all the time.)

    • Aena says:

I don’t know where you’re located, but Tony’s Appliance has always been the best deal for us. It’s been a few years since we’ve had them out since we bought several new appliances a few years ago, but their trip charge was about half the other guys’ and the first 30 minutes was rolled into the cost of the repair if you choose to repair. They’re also good about letting you know whether it is better to fix or replace the unit.

  31. cindy says:

along with the Kraft catalinas, I got a catalina offer to sign up at cub.com/email and enter promo code ‘icecream’ to print a coupon for free shoppers value ice cream on my next visit. That is the brand that sells for about $1 a 1/2 gallon on sale. I went ahead and printed, and the offer expires 9/05/10 (does that mean 12/05/10? lol).

    • Sue says:

If it is a CUB coupon, it will expire on 9/05, they expire on the date on the coupon. If it is a manufacturer coupon, it would be 3 months past the date on the coupon.

    • Amber says:

      Cindy,
Thanks for the tip! I got my coupon for the free ice cream using the promo code you provided :-)

  32. Brenda says:

So I got an advertisement in the mail for 52 weeks of the Sunday Star Tribune for only $26 AND if you prepay with your credit card, you’ll receive a $25 visa gift card… so one year of Sunday papers delivered for only $1… hmmmm….. anyone ever take advantage of offers like these and then cancel after the year is up? (before they charge your credit card again?)

    • Kari says:

I have never seen a deal that good!

    • Morgan says:

I’ve tried. Everytime we get this offer they won’t honor it because the previously delivered to our address even though it wasn’t us living here at the time.

    • Christine says:

I signed up for the promotion about a month ago, and I just received the $25 gift card. It says in the fine print that you must cancel or your card will be charged for the regular price after the first year.

      • Brenda says:

I’m thinking I may do it, and then put a reminder ding in my Outlook to cancel one week before I have to pay full price. But I kind of wnat to wait one more week, since there won’t be any coupon inserts this weekend! :)

  33. Katrina says:

isanticountyfreecycle.org and also for other counties are organized through yahoo. Offering or asking for free stuff. Working appliances are listed quite often as offers.

  34. sally says:

I just signed up for a program from Home Depot. They said I would receive a coupon in my email for 10% off until 09/06/2010. Well I got the email and it said the coupon was only good until 09/01/2010. I sent them an email.

  35. kristi says:

anyone know of a good website to order party stuff from? the dollar store was is good for filler plates, napkins, ect but didn’t have any baseball themed stuff. which is what my son wants for his party.

  36. Christy says:

I haven’t shopped at Cub lately (been going to target and aldi), but last time I was at the silver lake Cub the cashier said pretty soon they would not be taking any internet coupons. Has anyone experienced this yet? It makes me a little weary to shop there.

  37. Ms Pink says:

I don’t know if this is where to post this or not, but I bought a value pack of Tampax Tampons this week – the big blue box that has 5 free in it – at Cub and I got a coupon for a free 18 ct box of Playtex easy glide tampons

  38. Marcy says:

Coburns has 93% lean ground beef for $1.99/lb (limit 2). Needless to say, I’ve stopped there many times this week. I was looking up info on frying the hamburger and then freezing it, when I saw that some people boil it in water, drain it, then freeze. Has anyone tried this? They say that you get more grease out and it stays more moist. Any info or tips on freezing cooked hamburger would be appreciated!

    • Marcy says:

Let me clarify that it was being sold in 3lb chubs, so you had to buy that amount @ $1.99/lb.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Marcy, I brown ground beef and ground turkey with some onion all the time, then drain it and freeze it in 1.25 pound packages. I wait for it to cool, then put it in a freezer Ziploc, seal and voila. In fact, I plan to buy a bunch using a Coborn’s Delivers thing I bought online and do that very thing.

  39. Brenda says:

We need a new water heater. Anyone have any suggestions on an inexpensive (but quality, of course) place to have do it? We aren’t going to stay in this house forever, so just a regular “tank” kind is what we’re looknig to have put in (not a tank-less).
    Thoughts? Suggestions?

  40. marie says:

First, let me start by saying that I understand the frustration w/ coupons not being accepted or not ringing at the right value etc., I’ve had it happen to me. But ranting about the cashiers or the policies doesn’t help and usually just feeds the frustration.
Let’s be pro-active. This weekend when I went to Target the cashier told me I could just hand her the coupons. I explained that there’s been an issue with coupons not ringing the right value and I’d rather hand them to her. She had no problems with this and took it a step further to make sure she double checked the value as they rang!! She also gave me no issues with my trial sized items as the coupons didn’t exclude trial size. Now when I went to the cashier there was no one behind me but as she rang and checked my coupons a line formed but she didn’t get frustrated and gave me 100%.
I realize that sometimes we are in a rush or have kids with us and can’t always check but maybe we can try to mention the problem ahead of time so it’s not a problem in the end.
And while it’s frustrating that from store to store the policy is different as far as taking or not taking expired coupons if you keep a coupon binder maybe you can make a list in it to the stores you frequent most and what that specific stores policy is. That way everyone is better informed and hopefully it will lead to less frustration.
Another thing I will do if say I have issues with them not excepting trial size or a certain coupon is I just ask for those coupons back and don’t get the items. I figure my time spent is better then money loss.
I hope this didn’t sound preachy. I hope that it will help for happier shopping for us.

Anyone having trouble with Target not taking their coupons? I bought 4 boxes of Luvs diapers and gave the cashier 4 coupons. 2 were for $2 off and 2 were for $2.50 off. I paid no attention to the total and just paid. After loading my kids into the car and then checking my receipt noticed that only the $2 off coupons came off. I unloaded the kids and went in to ask about the other coupons. The manager ended up helping me and had to find my coupons that didn’t ring up. She told me that I can only use one coupon per purchase and buying 4 was considered one purchase. I asked then why did 2 of the $2 coupons come off, but was not given an answer. She pointed out that on the coupons it says one per purchase. If you check all coupons say one per purchase, and at any other store (ie walmart, cub, shopko) I have always given them 4 coupons when purchasing 4 items. I have always made multiple purchases at target this way, but now with all their coupon troubles in the news it seems to not be allowed now. Does this make any sense? They get reimbursed from the company when they send in the coupons. Target would have gladly sent in all 4 of my coupons if I hadn’t gone in and asked about their mistake, and gotten my unused coupons back. I am still baffled by this. Have I been using coupons incorrectly all this time?

      Laura-
You have it correct and the manager has it incorrect. I’m guessing a different manager (at the same store) would have had a different opinion (very frustrating). All you can do is watch each coupon being scanned and make sure the correct amount came off (not easy to do when the kiddos are with you).

were the 4 coupons Target coupons or manufacturer coupons?

  42. Laura says:

They were all manufacturer coupons. The two that were accepted expired in August and the two they wouldn’t take expired at the end of the month.
