Free Video on Demand: Disney Movies, TV Shows, and Special Movie Content

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Free Disney Family Movies

If you are a Comcast or Charter cable customer and subscribe to video-on-demand service, you can watch Disney movies for free now through September 6. View the full list of participating cable providers here.

This offer comes as Disney launches its new video-on-demand service in partnership with select cable providers. The Disney Family Movie channel will cost $5.99 per month and will feature 10-12 commercial-free Disney movies (both classic and contemporary) every month.

Free TV Shows and Special Movie Content

Probably not as cool as free Disney movies, but it is just as free. Amazon.com has TV Episodes, Special Content, Movie Extras and more available free on demand. Or, if you want to pay for a particular title, then check out their huge library of TV episodes and movies available for purchase.

As always, Hulu.com and PrimeTimeRewind.tv are free alternatives to a DVR if you want to catch a television show you missed. (The PrimeTimeRewind.tv website is loading really slowly for me right now; have patience if you can’t get through either)

Your turn: Do you use video-on-demand service? What do you think of it?

We pretty much only use video on demand now! We only get the tv stations that come over the air waves for free (i.e. not much other than your big networks) but we have been using Netflix for around a year now and we love it! With their watch it now videos there are tons of movies and tv shows to choose from (and they are adding even more starting this month!). The $8.99 monthly fee is WAY cheaper than cable or even renting movies from most places!

We also use Hulu (and the network websites) to watch current shows whenever we want instead of being a slave to the schedule!

Works great for us! (Especially since we have a nice flat screen computer and we have the Roku box which allows us to watch Netflix and Amazon stuff on our regular flat screen tv!)

      Erica-
How much does that Roku box have and who do you get your internet service through? I ask because my husband and I have been going back and forth about getting cable again, but just don’t want to pay so much money a month for a bunch of channels we won’t watch. We subscribe to Netflix right now, but didn’t want to have to watch video on the computer since it is much smaller than our TV screen.

      • Shannon says:

If you have a Wii you can watch your netflix through that on your TV the same with Play Station Three that is internet compatible.

I would have to second Netflix! We do not have cable and use only Netflix. We have gotten hooked on a few shows that we wouldn’t have otherwise watched – Entourage, Weeds, Lost, The Cake Boss. Most of the new movies are only available on dvd rather than the Watch Instantly, but it’s still an awesome deal. And, they have Go Diego Go and Spongebob for our kids! We actually use it through the PS3 (it’s also available with the Xbox 360 and Wii) so it goes directly to our tv. I highly recommend!

  3. Cecia says:

I don’t get what you mean by “subscribe” to video on demand? I just have the basic Comcast bundle and can watch movies if I want to, but when I go to Disney Channel Movies they are greyed out/not available. Is “video on-demand” something different than the regular on-demand where you can watch current/past seasons of shows, free movies etc..?

  4. Kathy T says:

I was watching Comcast On-Demand and they were advertising the Disney special for the free family weekend movies, but I also couldn’t find it–when you go to the Disney Family movie channel, it says you need to subscribe.

  5. Amber says:

I would probably try calling Comcast to find out why you can’t select the free preview
