Target Shopping List 8/22 – 8/28/10

With a batch of new Target printable coupons there are plenty of deals to be had this week at Target.

As you get started shopping at Target we’d recommend getting familiar with Target’s price matching policy and Target’s coupon policy. You may want to bring printouts of these with you to the store so that you have them in case you run into issues. If you are new to Pocket Your Dollars, learn how to read this shopping list or troubleshoot problems when printing coupons.

Remember that this is a starting list of deals for the week. As readers leave comments with bargains they found at their local store or we get emails with deal ideas, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Target fanatics should check out the ever-changing supply of Target online coupons, be sure to sign up for Target’s text-messaged coupons and browse Target’s weekly ad online.

Your turn: Did you find any other good deals at Target this week? Make sure to let us know!

On-Going Deals (Previously listed)

These items are listed from lowest final price to highest (and then my totally anal-retentive self ordered items that have the final price from lowest to highest starting price and then a third sort alphabetically. I say that only so you can tease me about my extreme love for patterns and ordered lists). Please leave a comment if a printable coupon is out of prints or the product is no longer at the specified price (maybe it was a temporary price cut?) and we will update the list to reflect that.

I got plums at Target yesterday for $.49! 1.49 less the $1 off a produce item. The bag was about 2lbs too.

  2. Betsy

Can’t find a Hunt’s pudding coupon in August All You. No mention of it on any coupon search sites. :(

    1. JoAnna

Betsy–maybe that is a coupon found only in the magazine that’s purchased in store and not found in the home delivered mag?

      1. DawnC

It’s not listed in the front of the mag. It’s in the special insert in the middle of the mag. I got it and I have home delivered.

  3. Mary

At the Edina Super Target I found Wish-Bone Western and Italian on a price cut for $1.50 each! It made the wishbone deal even sweeter.

In the refrigerator section I found 1 type of Kraft Refrigerated Shredded Cheese (Parmesan, Romano and Asiago) for $2, and I needed that kind of cheese for a recipe!

  4. Lynn

The Target in Maple Grove had a lot of batteries this afternoon.

  5. Shelly

The smaller SLP Target did not have Skintimate Shave Gel on sale for that price, I was disappointed. I scanned it. It was $2.49 (or maybe $2.29)… Is this price listed a price cut at some Targets?

I have been to 3 Target stores and no Rayovac batteries. I know this one is on the list frequently so if someone sees it could they post the Target where they locate these?

I also haven’t found the Nexcare bandages for anything close to the price listed.

    1. Shelly

At our 2 St Louis Park Targets those batteries are in the dollar section. I’ve found them there several times; however, you can never count on it because they constantly change out that section. It’s a good coupon to just keep with you and if you think of it, check each time you’re at a Target for something else. Hope that helps you.

  7. Dawn N

I am not finding this coupon in my insert?
    Chef Michael’s Canine Creations 3 oz $0.87
Use Get Chef Michael’s Canine Creations Free (no other purchase necessary) coupon from 8/22 Smart Source insert (exp 10/31)

    1. Amber

Do you get the Pioneer Press? I got both newspapers this weekend and only the Star Tribune had those Target coupons as well as the Skintamate and Edge shaving cream Target coupons. I have noticed that usually only the Star Tribune has high-value coupons and Target coupons.

  8. TJ

I have not seen $1 Rayovac at Target for several weeks…….I think this sale is history…..might want to try WalMart though.

  9. Susan

Tide travel size…I am sure that this is just a misprint as this coming Sunday would be 8/29 and not as the suggested 8/28 for the coupon. Any suggestions?

    1. Sue

The Tide $1.50/1 was in my 8/22/10 Smart Source insert

    2. Laura Wales

Susan – Just a misprint. Fixed it, thanks!

  10. Susan

Chef MIchael’s…is in the 8/22 SS. Two coupons.

Did anyone else see the 6 pm local news tonight(Tues) . I think channel 4. Woman from Oakdale was on reporting a coupon problem that keeps happening over and over again at Target stores. She was not getting the full coupon amount taken off her bill. Example : Coupon for $4 off purchase of 10 frozen meals only rang up at $1.99. Not the first time. Has had same problem many times before. Target employees nice about fixing it at customer service desk but repeated complaints to fix the problems went on deaf ears until the tv news talked to Target. Target made some kind of statement that this is the first they heard of it and are working on fixing the problem.

I don’t always check my receipt to see if I got the right coupon amount especially if I’ve already handed the cashier a handful of coupons and don’t remember what the amounts were for 5, 7, 10 or more coupons and what they add up to. We will all need to remember to be more careful. It is always a good practice to check your receipts but now that we know Target is getting $4 from the manufacturer for the coupon we only got $1.99 off our bill for … it will make me go back to checking more carefully. Any tips on how to keep track or check?

    1. JoAnna

Kathy–their claim that this is the 1st time they have heard of the problem is a complete lie. In June I emailed corporate numerous times and my store’s manager (without many results-esp from corporate).

Now when I make my list I write down each coupon ($ amt and type–manufacturer or Target) next to each item. If I don’t use the coups I cross it off, when I buy the item I circle the coups. I watch the cashier like a hawk and point out all problems (nicely). When I get home I add up all the coups on the receipt and on my list to see how much (if any) has been missed. If there is a problem then I go back to the store the same day or at least call so they have a record of the problem because my Target will not fix coupon mistakes unless it’s the same day.

      1. Jen

I’ve been lax on this lately, but I’m going to go back to putting my initials on the backs of all of my coupons so that I can always send a CS person back to that line and have them look for the coupons I actually handed the cashier. It wouldn’t have my initials if I didn’t give it to them, right? ;)

    2. Amber

Oh, I wish I would’ve caught that story! I also have called Target a couple of times reporting my coupons being applied wrong. Each time they said it was the first they ever heard of it. Not sure if it is poor communication or a way to shrug the problem off. I did see a pose on the blogsite TotallyTarget.com about coupons not being applied correctly because of a flaw in the new system software, sounds reasonable since I didn’t have a problem with coupon amounts at Target prior to it expanding its grocery section last month…I think they got new systems with the new catalina machines, not sure though. I was there yesterday and got 2 of the Glade Soy candles on clearance for $1.48 each. I used the $2/2 coupon from the Smart Source insert and only $1.48 was taken off. Customer Service kindly corrected it, however, each trip I take to Target (which is weekly) I’ve had to go to Customer Service to get coupon amounts adjusted. I know they don’t have to pay overage, but we are entitled to the full value of the coupon or item.
As for catching mistakes, I ALWAYS check my receipt. I have an estimate in my head of what everything will cost before coupons, how much in coupons I have and how much my total after coupons should be. I also check my receipt before leaving the store so I can get it out of the way (and yes, with 2 antsy kids, which is sometimes very frustrating). If there is a very noticeable difference, I sometimes go back to the cashier and politely ask for my coupons back. I take them to the Customer Service desk and they help me figure out which ones weren’t applied.
I hope Target does something about this issue! :-( This is the one store that I dread checking out in.

      1. Laura Wales

Amber – I’ve actually pretty much stopped shopping at Target because of issues like this one. I’ll stop in every month or two to get a few deals, but I just dread the checkout process, especially with having my 16-month-old son with me.

        1. mollie

I rarely shop at target, either because of these problems. I am literally surrounded by 3 Targets, all very close and a fourth near a mall I go to. Day b4 yesterday, was charged $14.00 over, plus incorrect tax.

There was a problem at the cashier, she called mgr, and I was told I could not use $1.00 coupon for Tide sample, or any coupon for any sample. I politely quoted their policy to him, and pointed out on most Target coupons, it clearly states not valid on trial sizes, and some of the manu’s also state, also pointed out they should automatically adjust down, and Target gets reimbursed the full amount plus 8 cents, so they make money on it.

He rescinded, and then sent me with my bags to customer service, where they checked me out with all my coupons. Clerk had told him, “She’s going to get all this stuff for free,” and he asked me if it were true as if I were doing something wrong…I opened one of the bags to show I had cheese, other items. Only had about 10-12 trial size items; thought they would be great for gym bags – mostly pantene and degree trials to use up all those $1.00 coupons. Never bought samples before. I should have just left it all and walked.

They weren’t busy, but mgr took so long, a line formed and I was embarrassed, although I did politely tell the woman behind me I was using coupons and it might take a while. Then they charged me tax on the full amount of purchase…not sure how this happened. I just left rather stay any longer and figure out how to fix…they beat me down.

They’ll have to have a really great offer b4 I shop there again. Last time it was a $3.00 mistake on 5 items.

    3. sofi

same scenario happened to me in April it took the amount of only one smart one not the $4.00 problem fixed at guest service but is been happening alot lately WATCH your receipt carefully I called corporate before about this problem but they haven’t heard of it ……?? go figure

I am looking for a WII and i see there $149.00 this week but only one controller and one game. think this a good deal or should I HOLD OUT OR anyone no of a better deal any where..thanks rebecca

    1. Jenn

This is a good deal if they’re 149.00 – I was thinking they were 199.00 this week (didn’t look closely, though, since we have one already). I bought mine last Nov. for 199.00 when Target was running a promo giving a $30 gift card back with it. The system came with 1 controller, which is standard – and 1 game included as well – although I think now they are starting to include the “Sports Resort” game with it which I think is worth more than the game we got with it (just the plain “Sports”) So, technically I got the system + 1 controller, and 1 game for 169.00, after you count the $30 gc.

I have never seen them lower than 199.00 but Toys R Us and Target will occasionally run promos where you buy the Wii for that price and then get xx amount in a gift card or xx for free (like a 2nd controller, or game, etc.). So, when they do those types of deals, I think those are pretty good prices. Keep in mind that the games run anywhere from $20 to 50+, so unless you get them 2nd hand or when they are on sale, they can be a huge budget buster!

      1. rebecca

thank you I always buy my games a game stop second hand they guarentee them for seven days so you can see if they work and my kids have every system out there so ive been buying them for years. Christmas I bought 6 Wii games for $60 because they always run buy 2 get 1 free..but thanks Im off to buy a Wii..rebecca

  13. anna

After seperating my coupons into categories, (free/Manufac/Target) I used to then put them in numerical order to help me remember, but then after realizing they don’t show up altogether on the reciept, (some are listed on the bottom, some by the item) I’ve been trying to come up with a new method myself. The onlyidea I’ve come up with so far, is after getting your shopping list and pile of coupons together, (and if you have an”all in one” printer) make copies of the coupons fitting as many as you can on each page.do u think this would work?

    1. Amber

Wow! That sounds time consuming, lol. I guess it wouldn’t be too bad if you only have a dozen or so coupons. Let’s hope this issue is fixed soon so we don’t have to worry so much about our coupons not working!

      1. JoAnna

Amber-it’s not too bad and I like keeping track of what I save. I try for at least $100 in coupons so it’s a lg stack!

        1. Amber

Same here! Last week my total before coupons was $138 and after, it was $48 :-)

  14. Kim

The smaller Target in SLP has the $6.00 batteries. Quite alot of them too.

  15. Kim

The Fruit2O coupons when you buy the strawberry kiwi at $.89 is only taking off .89 instead of $1.00. Make sure to watch this one.

    1. JoAnna

Kim–if the coupon is $1 off of 1 item then Target’s policy is to adjust the coupon to cover just the cost of that one item (they do not allow money makers).

      1. Kim

The coupon is $1.00 off of two. Whatever code they put in for the registers is not taking into consideration if the coupon is for multiple items. It is comparing the coupon price to the price of one of the items and adjusting to that. Sorry the programmer in me is showing.

        1. Jenn

I have noticed this issue for a while, now. It is really frustrating when I have to stop the cashier and point out the item is for 2 or more. I have started to put my coupons for multiple items in a separate stack, and handing the coupons for 1 item first, and then after watching to make sure the total drops accordingly, I’ll then hand over my 2nd stack of coupons which are likely to not take off the full price, especially if the price for 1 item is less than the coupon itself for 2+ items – and then I tell the cashier that sometimes the registers will not take off the right amount because it is for more than 1 item, so that he/she can be watching it along with me – while I’m also watching to make sure the overall total is going down each time they scan (I have never had a problem with this as far as I know, but after reading reader’s comments, it appears it does happen sometimes where they scan a coupon and they “take” it but it does not come off the total). It is frustrating, but for now that has helped me watch my coupons more closely at Target.

          1. Kim

That is a really good idea! My daugher watches the price on the screen go down and I make sure the cashier scans all of the coupons. I hate when they have two stick together and I have to go to the service counter without and coupon and say they did not scan it.

        2. kathy Merchant

Kim. you should offer your professional programming services to Target. Sounds like they need the help!

FYI for Target coupon shoppers – on WCCO news today:

    http://wcco.com/consumer/target.coupon.problems.2.1877267.html

    1. JoAnna

Thanks Alison–I will definitely check the story out!

    2. Teresa

Alison – I just signed on to post that same link. That was an interesting segment because I wrote a letter about a month ago to the Hopkins Target Manager with a copy of my receipt and the specific details of the coupons I had used that were incorrectly allocated. I never receive a response from that store manager. They are fibbing if they actually told WCCO they weren’t aware of the problem.

  17. Beth

You have to watch out this week if you want to use the $6 off coupon if you buy both a Shick razor and Hawaiin tropic/Banana Boat item- my target adjusted it down to the price of the razor I bought, so I only received 5.49 off of both items! Just like what the Target story was talking about.

  18. Brenda P

Over the past few weeks I’ve been to three different Targets trying to get the Finish Quantimatic Starter Kit for the $5 price. But it was not at that price cut price in Chanhassen, Eden Prairie or Rochester. Has the price gone back up everywhere, or has someone found them at the lower price?

  19. Nicole

I just finished at Target. I went to pick up an Edge shaving cream that is on sale with my coupon and there was a peelie for $5 off your purchase of one Edge or Shick shave cream and one Shick Hydro razor. The razor was $6.99 minus my $5 off one coupon, shaving cream was $1.97 minus my $1 off coupon, and I used the peelie making my transaction a $2 money maker! I love unexpected coupon finds!!

I am really frustrated with the All You mag. Over the past few months I have noticed that alot of the coupons are only in the walmart version. Not a good way to reward the people that have the mag. delivered. My subscription runs out in Dec. & have decided to just buy a copy at walmart if the deal is something I want. Also how do you get ahold of Target Corperate? I have many of the same complaints that are mentioned here.

    1. sofi

I feel the same way about All you magazine

  21. Aga

Has anyone done the pretzel deal? It looked like the 7/25 mfg q is only for the pretzel sandwiches, which are $3+. Am I missing the reg coupon or is this the best
    we can do?

Can you believe it! WCCO 5pm news today (Wed 8-25-10) had big follow-up story to yesterdays coupon disaster news! The station says they received tons of people contacting them saying they have had the same problem AND it is apparently a problem at lots of Targets across the country! Many said they also contacted Target with no avail. Its pretty obvious Target out right lied when they said this is the first they have heard of it. Anybody who has ever worked long enough in any big corporation unfortunately knows they do things to protect themselves and the bottom line.

I am glad Target has been called on the carpet for this problem. It is generally a very good retailer that serves our communities needs for goods well. Too bad a problem like this hits the consumer in two ways that count…the pocketbook and in customer loyalty.

I personally switched to almost all my groceries at Target about a year and half ago when local checkbook mag article did study and found I could save lots more on food by shopping at Target instead of Cub. I was at Target a lot anyway and every penny counts now so I switched. Very recently I tried Walmart for groceries because of their big ad campaign about Rollbacks. Yes I saved there too but I never liked the check out service there and felt their fresh goods were a little under par. Then you hear they have tainted eggs still on the shelves. But now I feel like Target is just another big giant taking money from the little guy and reporting how they are still making a little bit of a profit even in this bad economy. Now I think I know why. Target has lost my trust as a consumer. Buyer Beware is so true.

    1. Amber

Wow! That’s great that people called WCCO and also reported their coupon problems at Target. Never thought of doing that! It would be great if other news stations around the U.S. picked up on this story to help hold Target accountable for this problem.

    2. mollie

I do have one comment about serving the community. I, for one, refuse to even set foot in a target during the Christmas season because of their banning of the Salvation Army Bellringers. That is one organization that operates on an absolute shoe string and helps the very worst of the down and out…many of those with severe mental issues and no other resources. As soon as I see the first Bell Ringer out, I stay out of Target.

(By the way, I shop there so seldomly, I wasn’t aware they adjusted the price of the manu coupons down….but get reimbursed for full price plus 8 cents…that must make them a tidy profit.

  23. Julie

I agree – such a blatant lie that this is “the first that we’ve heard of this problem,”
the “problem” has been documented by comments left on this web site and others for months. I really wouldn’t have a problem, if the cashier would just acknowledge when a coupon is either rejected, or adjusted, which would then give me the option of not making a purchase. Many times, I pick something up because of a great coupon, and then later find out that the coupon was taken, but not deducted. They need to give the coupon back to the customer in that case. I watch the check out process like a hawk too, but have actually had a cahier say to me, “oh it just says 0 on the screen, but it will deduct it, I don’t know how it works,” and of course, it didn’t. And I agree with others, you can’t tell which worked and which didn’t, some come up under the item, some at the bottom, very confusing. I add the total up of my coupons before handing them over, and then add up the total from the receipt, and it’s never equal. I’ve switched mainly to CVS for this reason, some things cost more, but their cashiers ALWAYS ensure that the coupon worked, and if it doesn’t, they tell you and give it back. That doesn’t seem like too much to ask.

  24. Ashley

I just got back from Target although I got a lot of great deals it wasn’t without embarrassing lines behind me and an angry cashier. I purchased 3 trial size degree deodorants and when I tried to use my .75/1 she told me it was against everything in her being to let me do it. I explained to her that I was still paying for it. Also when I tried to use the $3/3 First aid kits she called over the lead cashier who ultimately approved it. The lady did not want me to use my coupons and get stuff for next to nothing. She didn’t let me use the $1 off tide trial size although the coupon did NOT say “excludes trial size.” She told me if the computer won’t take them she can’t. In this whole ordeal people started to line up behind me and were probably very annoyed while I was embarrassed. I did not try to use 1 single coupon incorrectly but she seemed to be so mad at me like I was committing a crime. Bad trip toTarget!

    1. sofi

Ashley — May I ask which Target was this ?

    2. Beth

If that happens again, just politely say you would like your coupons back and leave your order there. I’ve done that in the past with trips to Rainbow and Target- it’s so rude of cashiers to not accept coupons or argue with you when there is no reason for them not to accept them. You can then speak to a customer service person without embarrassing yourself or holding up the line. I bet they will be more than happy to accept your coupons and complete your transaction. If all else fails, just try a different Target or younger cashier!

  25. Mary

Hey Girls, Target in Alexandria is always messing up on coupons.. I complained in June to corporate about them not giving full coupon credit, Target may scan the Target & Manufacture coupon but you may just get credit for just one..CHECK your RECIEPTS. Target has overcharge me $10.00 at least twice because the cash register and the amount you should pay is not correct when using coupons.. I called corporate and recieved a gift card in the amount I was cheated out of in June.. How it charges you more than it should is a mystery but CHECK every reciept and write down or take a pic of your coupons, when you get home drag out the calculator and do your own math.. GOOD LUCK.. I finally had to make Target do my items 3 at a time, so they cannot mix uip my coupons.. This is a solution that has worked for me the last 3 shopping trips.. Needless to say I get stared at when I enter the store, but they WILL NOT STOP me from COUPONING..

    1. Rhonda

I tried doing one transaction for stuff that had coupons and one for the stuff that didn’t and the supervisor said she couldn’t allow that because it was couponers who hold up the lines!!!!

  26. Debbie

I cannot find the $2/1 Red Barron by the slice coupon through your site. Is there somewhere else I can go to get this coupon?

I think the All You magazine is a total waste of money. So much for rewarding their subscribers. Can u get a refund on your subscription? I hate companies that operate like this and Archiver’s does the same thing.

Sofi- It was at the Chaska Target.

  31. Kim

Good to know I’m not the only one having coupon probs. Went to Target near my MILs last weekend and used the two Stride coupons to end up getting them free. Did it twice in two different transactions. DH was there and not too patient, so I wasn’t watching as closely. One order it rang up fine, the next, NEITHER Stride coupon rang up (store or man). I didn’t realize it until I was already back at MILs (20 min drive) and then DH wanted to leave right away to go home (1hr drive)…..he doesn’t think it’s worth the hassle but the principle of it is bothering me. They have my Q and will get the money for it, yet I paid for the product.

I much prefer shopping alone. It’s not happening these days.

  32. Charlene

I have finally read from another PYD reader that the trick to getting all the coupons to work is to go to either a guy cashier or someone young who really doesn’t care and accepts all the coupons I give them. I’m not trying to be sneaky (as one guy cashier said using the $1 Tide coupon on the trial size), it’s just much easier to go to a cashier who will scan it through no questions asked. Sometimes it’s easier to go early evening when the daytime cashiers have gone home and the younger ones are working…usually works for me!! Thanks again to all who have helped me accumulate lots of deals by reading this site.

    1. Rhonda

I will only go on the days when the younger cashiers work, I’m sick of some of the crabby older cashiers who think they know everything!!!!

      1. Beth

I agree- I think the younger cashiers understand customer service much better than the older ones. You shouldn’t be made to feel bad for using coupons- the cashiers should be happy the consumer has decided to spend their money at Target and support their work!!

    2. Teresa

I’m afraid with the computer problems, it makes no difference to which cashier you go. The problem is that the computer allocates the coupons incorrectly.

For example, I purchase one Scrubbling Bubbles at $6.99 and had a $5.00 coupon. I also purchase spray Scrubbing Bubbles at $2.49 and had a $.55 coupon. The $5.00 coupon was allocated to the $2.49 item and the computer rang it up as a $2.49 coupon instead of $5.00. Then the $.55 coupon was allocated to the $6.99 item. Neither coupon beeped and appeared to go through fine.

      1. JoAnna

Teresa–it is true that it’s a computer problem. I watch when each coupon is scanned and make sure the correct amount is deducted–if it’s not then I alert the cashier right away. I had about $100 in scanned coupons that never beeped but the amount was not deducted (back in June)–I was not watching. Now I do. Though the cashier does still make a difference. I have had cashiers that are rude and critical of coupons so they take extra long and scrutinize each coupon and I have had cashiers that just scan and accept.

  33. Beth

Has anyone found a target that has a Purina One trial size available?
