Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 8/15 – 8/21/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Greetings, everyone! This is Kristine from Pocket Your Dollars filling in for Carrie this week as she is getting some much needed rest and relaxation at a cabin in northern Minnesota. We’ve done our best to pick and choose which items are “list worthy” this week but please feel free to comment and let us know if you see a good deal that we missed and we’ll make sure to add it. Hopefully we can all pitch in and help each other out this week in Carrie’s absence.

The sales look a little better this week after a ho-hum week last week. You’ll be able to double 5 coupons when your groceries value $25 on Wednesday and Saturday. (Restrictions apply. Read the complete rules of coupon doubling here before you get started.)

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Comments

  1. JoAnna says:

The organic berries: organic strawberries seem to be $2.49 at Super Target everyday. Their blueberries and raspberries are usually 3.49 everyday for organic. If you have a Costco membership (and eat lots of berries like we do) it’s a better deal there.

    • Lisa says:

Thanks for the info JoAnna. That’s the only thing I was going to go there for this week. I’ll look for them at Super Target instead.

  2. Kierstien says:

For brownberry I noticed in the a $0.55/1 coupon from 8/15 Smart Source insert (if this variety is included) Final price: $1.44 after coupon (it says DND)

this is for health full…so if this is on sale it would be a GREAT price on this bread, which i love!!!!

    • Tanya says:

I think the coupon is for any variety of Brownberry bread. It says Healthfull and then any variety. Yay!

      • kierstien says:

it does yay!!!! sweet deal even if its not able to double since there is rarely EVER cpns for this bread!

    • Jen says:

Does anyone shop at Savage or Lakeville and find that they’re policy on taking DND coupons seems to change by the week and even by the cashier? Does anyone know if either of these stores has a policy that they do, in fact, take the DND’s?

    • Chelle says:

Boo! We didn’t get this one in our insert. :( I like to eat good for you bread too.

  3. Kierstien says:

Also noticed, Danimals and Dan-o-nino are $1.50 use $1/1 coupon from 8/15 Smart Source insert or $1/1 coupon from 7/18 Smart Source insert, or $1/ 2coupon from 8/15 Smart Source insert
Final price: As low as Free after double coupon

    • Kierstien says:

it would actually be better then free since the full $1 would double since the normal price is over $2 for these

    • Laura Wales says:

Kierstien – Where did you see this advertised? I can’t find it in my weekly ad.

      • Kierstien says:

I saw it advertised in my smart source ad right under the dannon coupon.

        • Erica says:

The advertisment says “Dan-o-nino & Danimals are 2/$3.00 FINAL COST with coupon savings in this insert”.

So they both must be $2.00 each this week – which would make the Danimals free with doubled coupon and Dan-o-nino $1.00 each with doubled coupon (coupon says Save $1.00 on 2 Dan-o-nino).

    • JB says:

Which page is the Dan-o-nio and Danimals for $1.50 on?
I looked through the ad (Twin Cities Rainbow) a few times and did not find them. Are these on the in-store ad by any chance?
      Thanks

  4. Shelly says:

There are also 2 pages of special deals at the SLP West End Rainbow this week (anniversary sale). We must have just received them in this area in our Star Trib ads. Red Grapes for .99 lb, Black Angus Rib Steak 5.77 lb; Kraft Singles 2/$3; “Fresh flavored boneless/skinless Chicken Breast 1.99 lb; Italian Bread for .99; frozen 1 lb veggies .88 and other deals.

    • Therese S. says:

wasn’t too impressed with the Anniversary sale flyer. Hope there are better deals next week!

      • Shelly says:

Do you think they’ll do another week of anniversary deals, Therese? That would be nice. We much prefer the red grapes over the green, so I was happy with that part of the anniver. sale. And I was thinking $1.99 was a pretty good price for boneless, skinless chicken breast. I don’t buy much beef, but the Angus variety is good and that seems to be quite a big savings on the rib steaks, isn’t it?

        • Therese S. says:

There was a sign outside the front door stating that there will be special anniversary deals in the next two weeks to celebrate their 1st Anniversary.

I guess I was expecting some rock bottom price deals (kind of like their “yester-year” coupons they have in their weekly circular

          I can’t believe that it’s been a year. I love this store!!!

          • Shelly says:

I also have come to really like this store, Therese. It’s so nice to add to the mix in this area. I don’t know if you were ever in the original SLP Rainbow store (by Knollwood), but it was kind of gross, and I never in million years thought I’d become a Rainbow shopper : ) But I’m also so grateful for Costco and Trader Joe’s nearby; my other stores. We’re pretty blessed with our variety around here!

  5. Amanda says:

Wow, thanks for getting the list up so early! I had an awesome week shopping last week ($10 for $330 worth of food…my best ever!) so it will be hard to top. Thanks PYD!

    • Laura Wales says:

      Amanda – WOW, that’s amazing!

    • TJ says:

      Amanda –

That’s amazing that you saved so much money. What types of products did you buy? Did you have to make multiple trips to Rainbow? Any other tips you can offer? I would love to be able to save like that.

      • Amanda says:

I did 8 orders between 3 stores. The kelloggs deal (buy 10 items get $10 oyno) and the 10 double coupons played a huge role in how much I saved. I had also purchased 20 $1/2 eggo coupons off of ebay. I should have taken a picture of it, but I was so worried about shoving all of the waffles/pancakes into the freezer. It is PACKED now, but my kids and hubby are loving the eggo (which I never buy!)

Here is what I all got:
9 bottles kraft sandwich shop mayo
40 boxes eggo pancakes/waffles (one store was out of pancakes, so they substituted waffles)
        18 big boxes of poptarts
15 reg/xl size canning lids (about a $7 MM since the reg size was 1.24) this helped my total alot!
        12 nutragrain bars
        1 eggo syrup
1 minute maid OJ (.50 with “save off of breakfast coupons in the kelloggs cereal a while back)
2 free old el paso seasonings (peelie coupon)
        8 flatbread crackers
1 cinnabon cereal (Try free rebate)
        3 rhodes dinner rolls
        2 Newman’s lemonade
2 bags of the tilapia fillets

My OOP was 22.83, but I have a $10 OYNO and the Cinnabon rebate. From my calculations: Saved $304.22, total worth $327.05

        • SarahBeth says:

wow that is a ton of food!! How many papers do you buy each week?

          • Amanda says:

I try to get free coupons, actually. I have friends/family that give them to me, and I will sometimes stop at McDonalds or Culvers to see if there are any inserts in the papers they have at the restaurants. Also, my husband can sometimes get them free at work. I try to aim for 4 papers, but sometimes have as many as 10 with all of the freebies.

        • Jen says:

That’s so impressive!! Wow, I feel like I need to step it up now!

BTW, where did you find the Newman’s lemonade in the store? I looked everywhere for it and couldn’t find it anywhere! Just want to know for future reference!

          • Amanda says:

I found it in the dairy section, next to the cartons of minute maid OJ and lemonade.

          • Sue says:

It was by the other cartons of juice, top shelf at my Rainbow. It was just an empty space, but I saw the sign, so I got a Raincheck.

      • Amanda says:

My advice, save every coupon you find, and keep them organized! I have a detailed list before I go, and I have the coupons seperated by order into envelopes, so I don’t get confused when I get there. This was an exceptional week, it’s not always that good. PYD is a huge part in how much I save!

    • JoannaV says:

I would love to see a picture of this.

  6. Jackie says:

There is a coupon for $1.50 off of a 3 lb. package of Johnsonville brats or Italian sausage in the 5-2 Smart Source (expires Oct. 10, 2010).

  7. colleen says:

Tidy cat litter the small bag is regular $ 2.09 doubling the regular price is 9 cents!

    • mollie says:

I can never seem to find these litter deals in my store! It’s always hard to figure, many times sales are unadvertised and unclear on pet items, and there are never enough coupons out there for an item you need weekly when you have a cat! Sometimes, because of that, it makes sense to by a larger container/bag even though the per pound price is a little higher – beats running out of it and having to buy w/o coupon.

Today, when I checked, I jotted down the prices.

I noticed the Tidy Cat (non-scoop) bag (25 lb instead of the usual 20 lbs in the bag) is on sale for $3.29, regularly $3.99. 13 cents lb, with doubled $1 coupon 5 cents/lb.

Johnny Cat non-scoop is 10 lb for $1.49, reg 1.99 so it’s 15 cents lb.

      Cat’s Pride Scoopable:

      30 lb is $6.89, regularly $8.49 – 23 cents lb, w $1 coupon (dbld) 16 cents lb
      20 lb is $5.25, regularly $6.85 – 26 cents lb, w $1 coupon (dbld) 16 cents lb
      14 lb is $4.80, regularly $6.55 – 34 cents lb, w $1 coupon (dbld) 20 cents lb
      10 lb is $ 4.45, regularly 4.95 – 44 cents lb, w $1 coupon (dbld) 25 cents lb

Also, Purina Friskies 3.15 lb bag is $3.49, reg $4.25 (big jump in price since I last bought, but this is the “usual” sales price.) $1.11 lb, w coupon .47 lb.

Large Purina Complete and Purina Indoors, 16 lb on sale for $12.29 – regualary $15.19 $.76 per pound, w coupon (dbld) (these are hard to come by) $.64 cents lb.

  8. N S says:

Thanks for the great list. Can anyone tell me if the Brownberry bread contains high fructose corn syrup listed? Thanks!

  9. Andrea says:

I was rather disappointed in Rainbow’s West St. Paul location. I cashed in in my B1G1 Nabisco cookie deal, paired with a $1 off Q…only to be shorted. I realized, that, even though the cashier accepted my Q and scrolled back up to write the price of the cookies on the Q, she didn’t take it off of my transaction. Running around the next day, I stopped in to customer service. The “customer service” rep behind the counter was extremely rude and basically, wanted to argue about the fact that Rainbow DOES NOT accept internet B1G1 coupons (even though I have done this Nabisco deal AT LEAST 3 times before, w/o a problem) So, after her being rude and argumentative, I told her that it wasn’t about the $2.50, it was about the principle. Later, I called the store, just to see if she was correct, or, if she was to lazy to help me figure out my problem. The store’s assitant manager told me they did not accept ANY internet Q’s. :(
Also, the same day, a cashier at the Target in West St. Paul told me they do not accept expiered Qs!! What a bad day for shopping! I’m staying out of West St. Paul!

    • Toni says:

I had Rainbow tell me this more and more over the past few months. I don’t even bother Rainbow with Net BOGO coupons anymore. I think they’ve been reminding their cashiers, too, though that doesn’t explain what happened to you. It’s especially frustrating when few places take printable BOGO coupons anymore because of a few bad apples perpetuating coupon fraud. :(

  10. Joyce says:

I can’t seem to find the Mission Fajita or Burrito Size Flour Tortillas coupon
for $1/1 from 8/1 Smart Source insert. Is this just me?

  11. Michelle says:

I cant find the Mission Tortillas either I have three SS inserts. From different loctions….Bummer needed those…..

  12. Megan says:

Yes it is a good price for organic berries. The best I have ever seen is $2/4.

  13. Megan says:

It’s a FANTASTIC price for organic blueberries and raspberries!!! I do believe that is the lowest I have ever seen for both of those. The organic strawberries were $2/4 the other week but regular price is $3.99 for the strawberries so I am NOT complaining one bit :).

  14. Dawn N says:

Did anyone else from MN find the Mission Flour tortilla cpn? I have looked through mine 2x and nothing. Thanks all

  15. Megan says:

No Super Target here and I’ve been to both Woodman’s and the local Farmer’s Market for organic berries so I’ve been able to compare a few prices in my town at least :).

  16. Anne says:

For the Pillsbury Sweet Moments Refrigerated Desserts, if you go to the Target Coupon website, you can print off their coupon for this item. It prints as a manufacturers coupon that CAN be doubled.

  17. sofi says:

(we did not get this coupon in Minnesota ) kristine wrote …. :(

  18. Lori Jo says:

? for you – does anyone know of any Northern Q’s? I am running low on TP and that’s the only brand I will buy – I know rainbow had a Q in the ad, but I was looking to combo it w/ a manu Q, too. thanks!

  19. Jen says:

Does anyone know (who’s been already today) if the “Easy Frost” Pillsbury Frosting is included in the sale? Because that’s what the coupon is for from the 6/27 RP.

  20. Jen says:

It appears that the Recycled aluminum foil coupon on the Reynold’s site is not there anymore. It’s just regular, non-stick and parchment.

  21. Shelly says:

There was an unadvertised deal on toilet paper at our West End Rainbow – $4.99 for the big pack of 12 double rolls of Cottonelle. Limit one. I don’t know if this just part of our anniversary sale or at all Rainbows.

The 2.99 seedless watermelons were huge Costco sized melons today at West End, so I was delighted to get two of them. The 99 cent Red grapes looked great.

The 1.99 lb chicken breast is their really nice, marinated breasts behind the meat counter. So, if you’re looking for a grill “treat”, the 2 I got were originally $4.65; but the sale price under was $1.85 total for the 2 chicken parmesan garlic chicken breasts. This sale is unique to the West End store for the anniversary sale.

Bad news for SLP shoppers that use the Blue Bunny internet coupons but the cashier wouldn’t take them. (just 1 cashier in the early morning and one I tend to avoid, and the asst manager she checked with us is not of the really nice ones). Anyway, they have really cracked down at that store on coupons without watermarks, and I forgot to check since I’ve used them several times. So – heads up if you use those!

    • Jen says:

Oh man, I just printed those too. In fact I was going to ask about them because when the Print dialog box came up it came up with the option to print multiple copies and I selected it just to see what it would do and entered a random number and they all printed. But I see that each coupon has the ID# of the “team scream” member (i.e. me) on each one and was wondering if there’s a limit to how many of these can be used per person? All I see on the coupon is “limit one coupon per purchase” although it says further up, “one coupon valid for items indicated” so does that mean you can only use one coupon per PERSON (i.e. “team scream” id)?

      • Shelly says:

Good luck, Jen, Those are just like my coupons, and I’ve never had a problem using them. But this Rainbow must have been hit by coupon fraud, and they’ve really cracked down. No watermark – you can’t use them. So I had two and couldn’t use either one. And of course, with one cashier, a little line behind me (and I knew the person behind me!), I didn’t want to have her remove the ice cream treats. It bugs me to an extreme to have paid $3 per container even thought they’re usually over $5 : ) I see there is a coupon on a recent smart source – I just have one – but I may take it to customer service when I’m there next time. I also forgot to bring my $10 off my grocery order from Kelloggs!!! I wonder if they can do that at customer service, or if I need to just use it with my shopping trip next Wednesday when it expires??

    • Shelly says:

By the way – if you go in the coupon database – it does appear that there are come Cottonelle coupons to make this an even better deal. The $4.99 price is a $4.26 savings according to their sign. I just don’t know if this is unique to the West End Store. The big sign said something about a “bargain” not something about an “anniversary”. If the $1/1 coupon is still valid on that database, that would be a big thing of toilet paper for $2.99! It includes all the varieities of Cottonelle (aloe vera, etc)

  22. Jen says:

Does anyone know the shelf price on the Prego?

  23. Jane says:

Van Camp’s Pork n Beans 3/1.98 and there is a 30 cent coupon from late July or early August SS. This would make them .46 a can. Hy-Vee has sales for .44 cents, but that is rare and occasionally Walgreen’s for 50 cents, but they have a limit. These beans will go really high in the winter months at around 70-80 cents. My husband loves them, so I keep my eye out for a good deal.

  24. Jane says:

oops – I looked at the wrong week for the Van Camps…I hope I didn’t recycle this weeks ad!

  25. Alissa says:

The Dannon yogurt (6 oz varieties) are on sale for $.50 each this week (like at Cub); using the non-expired coupons listed in this week’s Cub match-ups, they can be as low as $.30 each.

  26. Melissa says:

The Plymouth station rainbow took my Blue Bunny coupons like the ones you are referring to with no problems.

  27. Dawn N says:

I changed Rainbow last week and what a difference. They didn’t go out of their way to not give coupons the chance to double and were extremely friendly. Only problem they were out of lots of items on my list. We are having workers fixing a water problem so they are here during the day so evening has been my shop time but next week I will be glad to go earlier. Try a different Rainbow if there is another one in the area. They took the Palemeno Pizza coupons without a question.

  28. Maria says:

The Old Orchard Healthy Balance was not on sale for $2.00.

  29. Lisa says:

Cub has a new coupon booklet out called Fall into Good Things. They had a similar one earlier this summer. Unfortunately all the coupons say Do Not Double. There was a $1.00 off of 3 Kraft Mac & Cheese which makes them $0.33/box at Rainbow this week.

  30. Liz says:

    Laughing Cow Cheese Wedges-2/$3.98
Combine Rainbow mailer coupon 2/$4.98 with Smart Source Save $1 manufacturer’s coupon!

  31. Jeannie says:

Got a RED HOT SAVINGS coupon book in the mail today. Prices are good 8/19 to 8/28.
The last one of these had some better deals, but this one isn’t bad…

$3 off Perdue Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
    $0.38 Imperial Spread
    $1.48 Skippy peanut butter
    and a bunch more……..
Keep your eyes out for this one!

  32. Alayna says:

I could not find the Cat’s Pride litter anywhere in 2 different Rainbows today (the ones for $2.19) I then looked in the ad and didn’t see it. I did find the Tidy Cat for 9 cents though!! :)

  33. MP says:

Rubbermaid take-alongs are include in 50% off sale. Bought some that were marked down to 1.79. Less than 80 cents for a pack of 4 containers!

  34. JoannaV says:

There was still a big Kellogg’s buy 10/get $10 display in the Oakdale Rainbow saying that the deal ran through 8/21 with the prices being $2.50. Can anyone confirm this? I haven’t done this deal yet, but might on Saturday.

    • Brenda says:

Hmmm… this week’s ad shows the deal but with the prices now being $3 each, instead of $2.50. (Last week, they were $2.50 each.)

    • Patty says:

I’ve read on AFC that the deal still works until today the 21st. Everything is $2.50 except Cinabon pancakes. HTH

  35. Julie says:

Yesterday I got the DiGiorno pizza and breadsticks, it was included in the 2/$10 sale (in Richfield), so with my doubled coupon, it was only $3, originally over $8!

  36. Brenda says:

If anyone doesn’t want their Laughing Cow cheese coupon from the coupon book OR the manufacturer coupons that were in last week’s paper, I’d LOVE to trade for something that you want!!!
