Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 8/29 – 9/4/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Wow, Labor Day is almost here already. Just like Easter marks a clear turn from wintertime products to spring and summer, Labor Day marks the turn to fall and winter items. That said, you’ll see a few notes throughout the list on items where I suspect we won’t see similar sale prices for awhile, since they are more seasonal in nature.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list: as we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: Did you use coupons for products not mentioned on this list to get some great deals this week too?

About Carrie Rocha

I am passionate about helping people live within their means so they can get out and stay out of debt. I live in Minneapolis, MN with my husband and two little girls.

Comments

  1. Dan Goodman says:

Mistake? Philadelphia Cream Cheese $0.98 minus $1 doesn’t seem to equal $0.98.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Dan – Yep, you have now seen my humanity :)

      • Dan Goodman says:

Carrie, I’m impressed that this is the only mistake I’ve seen you make!

        • Carrie Rocha says:

Dan – Ha! It’s only because you aren’t looking in the right places. I make plenty of mistakes and the beauty of blogging is that others get to point them out to me. It’s great daily exercise in humility :) (And, the reason I made that mistake on the cream cheese was that my gut told me that the $1/1 printable was no longer available, but I could neither confirm nor deny that, so I added it into the list AFTER I typed up the final price. Anyway…)

    • Shannon says:

Carrie I saw on their site that the $1 coupon is now dead and has been for about two weeks, they will have more coming at other times.

  2. Amanda says:

Thanks for the great list–there are so many good deals this week!

I was at PNS buying my newspapers yesterday and I saw yellow hang-tag coupons on the Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce for .35 off 1, making it .18 after doubled coupon!

  3. Amanda says:

Also, don’t forget you reusable bags–worth .05 each!

    • Mary says:

Yes! I didn’t realize that you could do that at Rainbow until last week. How long has that been going on? We should add it to the list each week as a reminder. You get $0.05 off your order for each reusable bag you bring in.

      • SarahBeth says:

        I agree!

      • Sue says:

I’ve already had the baggers bag my milk, potatoes, laundry soap and everything–otherwise they would only credit me one bag when I had a lot of items, just bigger items. Every little bit helps!

        • Martha says:

That’s surprising. I usually bring 3-4 bags in with me and they ask me how many I have and then give me that credit. The bagger usually only ends up using 2-3. Which store are you going to? Both the Eden Prairie and Plymouth (Hwy 55) have been good about crediting the number of bags I bring in.

          • Maria says:

I put my bags right on the conveyor belt with my groceries so I won’t forget and neither will they!

  4. Kirsten says:

Paula Red apples are soft with a little tang. My favorite for homemade applesauce.

  5. Gina says:

I can’t find the chinet coupon. The link just goes to the chinet main page. Ideas?

    • Jamie says:

You need to sign up first for Club Chinet. I just did it and they e-mailed the coupon to me within 15 minutes.

  6. Dawn N says:

The Scott napkin coupon doesn’t show up. I see for two other items?

  7. Jamie says:

The Scott Natural Napkins coupon doesn’t seem to be working. Has anyone been able to find this coupon?

  8. Malia says:

I think that’s a great price for Roundy’s Gallon ice cream. Lower than I’ve seen it in recent memory. And we like buying ice cream in the gallon buckets because we reuse the buckets.

  9. Chrissy says:

I am having trouble finding the hidden valley coupon. Am I blind?

    • Brenda P says:

I can’t find the Hidden Valley coupon either. Also, the Daisy Sour Cream link tells me that it is no longer available.

  10. Shelly says:

Looks like the Smart Milk coupons are 75 cents off rather than $1 now.

  11. Sue says:

For On-Going Deals, there is a coupon for $1.00 off Kool-Aid Fun Fizz in 8/29/10 SS and the regular price is $1.99 making it free after doubled coupon (expires 9/30/10)

  12. Erin says:

I’m also having trouble finding the Hidden Valley coupon after registering.

  13. Brenda says:

Carrie – I’ve seen you write about how you like to keep a 2-liter or two of soda on hand for company… wouldn’t it be cheaper/smarter to buy the 12-packs of cans when they are on cheap sale (like this week for only $1.48). That way if only one or two people would like sodas, then you aren’t opening the big bottle for it to go flat over time? Just wondering your methodology, if I’m missing something.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Brenda – Yes, with this exception – my husband won’t open a 2-liter for himself, but he will drink the cans one at a time when he wouldn’t otherwise. That’s the missing ingredient I guess I’ve never said :)

      • Brenda says:

Got it – a bit of a will power issue. We sometimes have the problem keeping a few different things in the house. But if they aren’t here, then we don’t have them! Yep, makes perfect sense!

      • Cecia says:

My husband is the same way which is why I almost never buy 2 liters. We have stocked up like crazy on the 12 packs between last weeks deal and this week, and even Target. It seems like this deal wont be back until say November (holidays) or Superbowl.

    • Therese S. says:

I think it’s awesome that Rainbow has been doing these pop promotions (Coke last week)

      Great stock up price!

  14. Joyce says:

Is anyone else having problems printing out the Oscar Mayer hotdogs coupon? Is there a trick to it?

  15. colleen says:

Thanks Carrie! I always use your site to double check if I missed something and I always do so thanks!

  16. Amanda says:

Is the wisk detergent the same kind that is on sale for $3 at Dollar General this week…then it would be free! (I’m at work, so I can’t check the ads right now….)

    • SarahBeth says:

In the list above Xtra is $1 and Wisk is $2 after coupons. Does anyone use these brands and prefer one over the other?

      • mollie says:

I’ve never had a strong brand preference, and have used Xtra for years, on and off with other bargain brands. Consumer reports did an extensive testing awhile back, and Tide rated best. I usually spot treat any problems, whether I’m using a high end detergent or not, so for me, it’s like who cares?

        http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SmartSpending/blog/page.aspx?post=1767895

Here’s the really interesting thing, I checked all my detergents (I always pick up bargains and had six different kinds) one day to see how much to use – I’ve had chemistry majors and home eccy type ppl tell me you only need 1/2 the recommended amount, and even less with the new front loaders (you can actually ruin your machine) In all brands where I measured out the recommended amount, it was WAY down the cap from the little lines on the cap. The kids thought I was nuts, there were bottles and caps and measuring cups all over my kitchen, along with my food scale.

On the Xtra, the measurement is 3/8ths of an inch up from the bottom, that’s about the width of a pen, NOT to the top of the ridges like it looks like. I checked that in April, and now STILL have the same six detergents because I’m using so little – 5 to 6 ppl living here.

Believe it or not, my clothes seem cleaner – turns out too much detergent makes your whites dingy and leaves a residue on your darks that actually makes them appear faded out.

  17. Sue says:

The pepsi products are on sale for $5/10…am I missing something?

  18. Sue says:

On second thought…maybe the sales are different at different stores/regions??

  19. Eva says:

When I click on the Aunt J frazen waffle Q I get a blank screen … can anyone suggest what’s up? Thanx

  20. Cheri says:

I think the pork sirloin roast or chops is a good price @ 1.99/lb.

    • mollie says:

Cheri, not a bad price, but late Sept through the fall, you’ll see pork drop and drop…I bought roasts and chops for as little as $.89 cents last year. So good price, but not so good you’d want to fill your freezer.

  21. MK says:

Where is the tuna coupon? I am registered on Starkist and have logged in. Can’t see a coupon anywhere!

  22. MK says:

Just an idea regarding the Dr. Scholl’s inserts. The inserts qualify under my flex medical expenses plan. I try to use coupons, even when using my Flex Debit card, to make my pre-tax dollars go even further. It’s a bonus to get Roundy’s points!

  23. kim says:

I must be an idiot but I cannot get the Hormel site to let me print coupons. I signed up but cannot figure out how to print. HELP

  24. kristin says:

not sure if this has already been mentioned on a previous week’s list but…

    good between 8/9/2010 and 9/5/10
buy 4 progresso canned soup get $1 OYNO
buy 6 progresso canned soup get $2 OYNO
buy 8 or more progresso canned soup get $3 OYNO

    • Neil says:

What does OYNO mean? 1st time I’ve seen that, and I didn’t find this acronymn in the learn to read the shopping list link. TIA

    • Neil says:

Nvr mind I googled it and found it it means “Off your next order.” Whaddayaknow! Well, next question, I got 4 progresso light soups today (all $6 before manu coupons) and I didn’t get any $1 ONYO coupons/catalinas. Did I miss something?

    • kristin says:

i’m glad OYNO came up when you goggled, for a minute i thought maybe i made it up! i too bought 4 cans today for $6, used two coupons and got a $1 OYNO catalina. the catalina i got advertising the deal says any flavor progresso soup so i am not sure why you did not get it. did you use a roundy’s card? although i do not think that matters. those catalinas sometimes take a long time to print. if i did not have kids in tow i may run off and leave them behind.

      • Neil says:

It must have just not printed for me cuz I did the exact same thing as you and used my Rainbow card (Robbinsdale) and I only got the typical oil change “catalina” but no progresso. Oh well. Win some you lose some :)

  25. sandy watson says:

My Kemps coupon is for the frozen yogurt. Does it work on the ice cream too?

  26. Amanda says:

In th e7/10RP there is a $1/1 grandes tortilla chips and krunchers potato chips. They are on sale for 2.50 this week, so .50 after doubled coupon

Also, in the “home made simple” coupons from P&G there are coupons for mr. clean .75/1
    (came through the mail)

  27. Sue says:

The Hormel baby back ribs are on sale for $2.88 a pound. There is a $1/1 coupon in the 8/1 SS…I checked out the prices earlier–seemed to be lots of packages between $5.50 and $7.00, putting at $3.50-$5.00 per package. Seems like a good deal to me!
(I found one for $5.21, making it about $1.75 per pound after doubled coupon!)

Also, when I went through the register, I bought 2 Mr. Clean liquids, used the $1/1 Mr. Clean product and a BOGO Mr. Clean. At the end, the register was saying that I had used too many coupons. The manager had to come and over-ride it. HTH

  28. cassie says:

either I am waiting too long to check the pocketyourdollars site and try to print coupons or I am having coupon printing computer trouble.

Aunt Jemima coupons, welch’s juice coupon, daisy sour cream coupons were all not coming up for me – can anyone confirm if these are gone – if they aren’t I best get my computer checked out! thanks

    • Melissa says:

Cassie this happens alot to me too. There is nothing wrong with your computer. Many times i find they no longer exist.

  29. Anne says:

My family loves Cool Whip, so yesterday I went to Cub to buy the 5 cartons for $5 and get a $5 manufacturer coupon back. I don’t often go to Cub, so when I was at Rainbow this morning, at check out I offered the $5 Manufacturer coupon I got from Cub (with a Cub logo on it), and got $5 off my grocery order at Rainbow! Now…. perhaps I should hit Cub again to stock up on more Cool Whip….

  30. Cecia says:

I went to Rainbow (plymouth Rockford & 494) this morning (6am, hubby needed the car) and they were pretty well stocked with the Magic Erasers, and word of advice the Mr clean refill bottles are 2/$4 and they have more liquid, you can still use the $1 off spray/eraser coupon from P&G. Other great deals like $1 off 2 Chi Chi’s Salsa coupon from Bricks (PYD coupon database) on sale at Rainbow for 2/$4 equates to $1 per bottle of salsa which is decent if you like this brand. It looked like more than the Ortega green chiles were on sale, I saw beans and taco seasoning. Oh and plenty of Old Orchard juice which I use as a back up if I run out of bottled apple juice.
I did however stock up at Costco on Motts Apple Juice, $5.49 for two 1 Gallon bottles but Cotsco coupon mailer had $2 off (limit 2) So $3.49 for two 1 Gallon bottles is a great price and we go through it like water around here with a little one. Regular sized (not jumbo) my target price is around $1.50 or less, so you get more bang for your buck.

  31. Jen says:

Be sure to check in the salsa aisle for a display with a pad of Chi-Chi’s coupons! They’re $1.00 off any two Chi-Chi’s salsa products and they don’t have DND and they expire on 11/7/10.

They’re good on any two salsa jars or Snackers salsa 12 oz or greater, any variety.

  32. Aga says:

anyone get the dean’s dip coupon to print? I signed up, it was emailed to me, but I still get ‘no prints available’ when I try to print from the email.

    TIA

  33. Ashley says:

At my Rainbow the NexCare kid bandaids were on sale for $1. With my $1 off any NexCare item coupon they were free!

    • Sandy says:

      Hi Ashley,

Could you please tell me which Rainbow this was because my girls go through character bandages like they are stickers! I have a bunch of Nexcare coupons too so it would be great to get free bandages. I checked one Rainbow but they were $2.49.
      Thanks.

MONEYMAKER on Miracle Whip: Smaller bottles (22oz) have a price drop to $1.89.

  35. Tami says:

Heads up for any other Heinz stock holders. This would be a good week to use the coupons they sent with the yearly stock info: $1 off Heinz ketchup, $1 off Classico and $1 off Ore-Ida. All can be doubled!

  36. Carrie says:

Not able to print many of the coupons today – oscar meyer, red baron, philly crm cheese, etc. Anyone else having trouble or is the problem on my end?

  37. Erica says:

The Kellog’s deal was very frustrating for me today! My Rainbow (Apple Valley) was out of almost every $1.88 sale item that has a coupon to match. I finally grabbed a couple boxes of cereal that didn’t match the coupon’s I had to see if they would go through. My cashier didn’t even look at my coupons!

Is there a way to find out the size & type of items listed for the Kellog’s sale this week? I noticed that the Special K Simply Cinnomon, Fiber Plus and the Cinnabon cereal were not included. Bummer because they had good coupons!

  38. Shelly says:

The Ghiradelli chocolate square coupon also works for the baking chocolate squares. That makes a great deal for that good baking chocolate.

St. Louis Park West End Rainbow has discontinued Smart Milk. The dairy guy told me they were throwing so much away each week. He very kindly told me to take any other organic milk 1/2 gallon of milk for the sale price of $2.50. I was too embarrassed to tell him I was only buying that particular one because I was actually getting it for $1.00 due to a double coupon!

  39. Neil says:

Just any fyi that $1.50/2 Pringles superstack catalina printed out when I got the 4 pringles superstacks this week.

  40. Sandi says:

The q for the Oscar Meyer franks found on Facebook is for the “Selects” variety so they may not be included in the Rainbow q selection at $1.28. Has anyone been there already & can update us?
    Thanks,
    Sandi

  41. Bea says:

I am lost with regard to the Ice Mountain water. Is there a coupon somewhere for buy 2 24 packs and get one free?

  42. Michele says:

There is an in-store Keebler display (both my Cub and RB had the display) that had coupon books featuring coupons that can be combined with their specials this week. Most of the coupons are $ off of a store brand item when 2 Keebler items are purchased. I was able to get $2 off school supplies with the purchase of 2 boxes of Cheez-its and a free gallon of milk with purchase of 2 Rice Krispie Treats!

I also got a back to school recipe book from customer service that included several coupons for Roundy’s brand items (all are DND).

  43. Kelli says:

The Claritin that is on sale at Rainbow is for 10 count. The $5 coupon is for 24 count. There is another coupon on the same page in the 8/29 Red Plum fo $2 off the 10 count. I knew it was too good to be true!

  44. Jane says:

I was wondering with the soda 1.48 deal – can you count this in the 25.00 or do you have to have an additional 25.00 plus the soda? Please help.

    • Shannon S says:

Jane the soda does not count to your 25 purchase, you have to purchase the soda and then an additional $25. So I just do my weekly deal and then I add the pop to that purchase.

  45. sue says:

Has anyone found the Grande chips at Woodbury Rainbow or Oakdale RB?

    • MA says:

I did not find these at the Savage Rainbow either but I saw them for $2.50 at Target. Could that be where they are on special? Didn’t see them in the Rainbow ad either.

      • Shelly says:

I think awhile back this also came up, and it was determined that only some Rainbow’s carry this kind of chip. I know our West End Rainbow does not. Super Target’s usually carry them.

  46. Michelle P says:

Has anyone use the $1/1 printable Oscar Mayer? The coupon says it’s for Oscar Mayer Selects, are those included in the sale?

  47. Barb says:

I tried to do the Kellogg deal today with the Cinnabon cereal since I had coupons to double. AND CINNABON IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE 1.88 DEAL. This was very frustrating! Many of the Kellogg cereals are not included. Also, I tried to do the Kimberly Clark deal of buy $20, get a free box of Scotties and $5 off next order and that didn’t work either! I was told it expired 8-31-10 after they asked 3-4 people and no one knew what was going on. When you spend hours figuring out the deals so you can get double coupons and then they are either out or your coupons/cereal are not in the deal, it’s maddening ;(
