FREE brake jobs? Seriously? My husband has been hearing my brakes squealing in my car recently, so this might be something I make the trek to West St. Paul for. Check out the list below for more information and for other coupons, deals and events available to our Twin Cities readers.
Opitz Outlet’s designer handbags sale started yesterday (8/18) and includes handbags with slight flaws at 80% off. Regular prices on these Burberry, Coach, Fendi, Moschino and Tori Burch bags run from $150-$800, but you can get them for $30-$75 through this sale at the Opitz Outlet Annex in Excelsior. (Thanks, Deal Spotter!)
Buffalo Arts & Crafts Festival. This event on August 21 from 9am-3pm brings nearly 200 artists and crafters to downtown historic Buffalo. Go to the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce website for more information.
Free Brake Jobs with Food Donation. Donate a full bag of groceries or school supplies at Signal Garage in West St. Paul this month (August) only and you’ll get a free brake job. The shop will inspect your brakes and, if needed, replace worn-out pads or shoes at no charge. All donations will benefit Neighbors Inc. of South St. Paul and the Neighborhood House of St. Paul. Be sure to call in advance, as they will be very busy: 651.457.2668. (Thanks to the Pioneer Press for this information!)
Mayo Clinic Children’s Health Fair. Check out the informative demonstrations and displays on topics such as bike helmet safety, healthy eating, allergy education and more at the Mall of America Best Buy Rotunda from 11am-3pm on August 21.
Parade of Community Gardeners will be on August 21 from 10am-2pm. This statewide “openhouse” of community gardens has 66 participants this year. Download the parade brochure and view a map so you can plan your route.
Your turn: Signal Garage offered the free brake jobs last year…did you go? What was your experience like?

It’s also Ki-Chi-Saga Days in Chisago City this weekend. There is a huge schedule of events including a community garge sale, food, craft & service vendors, helicopter rides, children’s events & a car show.

I called about the free brake inspection and got on a waiting list. Thanks for the heads up on this, what a great service.
I called today about the free brakes. They are full for August but did extend it into Sept. She took my name and number and will call me when they can fit me in
For those that were placed on a waiting list, has anyone got a call back for a time to come in?
Both my husband and I just recently brought our cars in for the free brakes on different days. We were both told by them that we didn’t need brakes. I was told a while ago though (when I got new tires) that I would be needing new rear brakes soon, and my brakes do squeak sometimes. Signal Garage said I had 30% left on them. So I really don’t think this is a very legitimate deal. I’d like to know how many brake pads they actually put in with this deal. At least they don’t try to rip you off by telling you you need other things done, but it was a total waste of time for us. I hate having the car in the shop for a day – it’s such an inconvenience and waste of time.
