Carrie’s Picks from Sunday Coupon Inserts 8/8/10 + Freebie Alert

Freebie alert: Check out the Eat Out & Recreation section at the bottom of this list for details, but I got a coupon for a free Bruegger’s Bagel with Cream Cheese, no purchase necessary and a coupon for a free Limeade from taco Bell, no purchase necessary, in today’s paper.

***

Carrie’s picks are my thoughts on which coupons from the four inserts in this weekend’s paper are most likely to turn into freebies or rock bottom-priced items. We received a Smart Source, a Red Plum and a General Mills insert. These publisher’s names, along with the date 8/8, will be used to cross-reference coupons the shopping lists at Pocket Your Dollars.

Note: Coupons referenced are those I got in my home delivered Minneapolis Star Tribune. It’s possible that coupons in your Sunday paper are different than mine; understand why by reading 4 reasons your paper may have different coupons than your neighbor’s.

If you’re new to couponing, read through my picks from previous weeks to learn from my oh-so delightful commentary in weeks gone by.

If you want more copies of these coupons ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, or even restaurants, coffee shops or libraries for their unused copies. If you’d like to order more copies of the Sunday paper check out Discounted Newspapers, to see if there any specials in your area. Or, if you live in Minnesota or Western Wisconsin, you can get two free passes to the Water Park of America when you order a Star Tribune subscription through Pocket Your Dollars. Finally, you can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

I can’t remember where I saw a coupon that I want to use. To find coupons not on this list or on the Pocket Your Dollars’ shopping lists, use the Pocket Your Dollars’ coupon database.

Your turn: Do you see any coupons for things your family buys that will turn into a great deal, but I overlooked?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Cinnabon Cereal. If you can find a specially marked box of Cinnabon that has a “Try Me Free” rebate on it, then use this $0.75/1 coupon to lower your initial out of pocket expense, then submit for a full rebate. (Red Plum)

Kotex. $2 off any 2 Kotex pads can be used on Kotex pantiliners at Target or Walmart to get two packages free.

Schick Hydro Razor. You can sue this week’s $5/1 coupon alongside the Try Me Free Schick Hydro mail-in rebate to get better-than-free razors when you combine the two.

Shout Wipes. Earlier this spring Target carried travel-sized packages of Shout Wipes for $0.97. This week there’s a $2 off any 2 Shout products coupon that does not restrict travel sizes. Therefore, you could get two packages of the travel wipes free with that coupon. (Smart Source)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you should get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Bayer Glucose Meter. Routinely the drugstores will give you 100% back in store credit through their loyalty program (whether Register Rewards, Extra Bucks or the like). Wait for one of those sales, then use this week’s $10 off coupon to actually make money buying the product. Many folks buy these, then donate them to charity for those who can’t afford to buy one. (Red Plum)

Betty Crocker Warm Delights. We typically see $0.75/2 coupons so this $0.75/1 should be considered high value. (General Mills)

Colgate Total. Yet another $1 off Colgate Total coupon that lined up with the right sale at a drugstore will likely yield us all free toothpaste. (Smart Source)

Dentyne, Trident, Stride, Swedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids. We frequently see gum coupons, but this is the first time I can remember getting Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids coupons. If you or your kids like these, then enjoy the $2/3 and $4/6 coupons we got today. (Smart Source)

Pledge. A Target coupon where you’ll get a $5 Target gift card when you buy 3 select Pledge items. This can be combined with manufacturer’s coupons to maximize savings. (Smart Source)

Progresso Soup. Soup coupons are a sign that fall is here just like deli meat and salad dressing coupons are a sign summer has arrived. These Progresso coupons are the first we’ve seen since last spring. (General Mills)

Schick Shave Gel. Almost all summer long we’ve seen $0.75/1 shave gel coupons in this part of the country, so a $1/1 is nice. (Smart Source)

Schick Hydro Refills. Coupons for razor refill cartridges are rare, so hold on to this 42/1 and use it alongside a sale. (Smart Source)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

Chex Mix, Sweet and Salty. Sometimes my local grocery store puts Chex Mix in their 10 for $10 sale, making them $1 per bag. If that happens soon we can have this week’s $0.50 off 1 coupon doubled in value to get it free. (General Mills)

Hartz Products. We got four different coupons for various Hartz pet products. These often turn into free products when they are doubles alongside a store sale. (Smart Source)

Jif and Smucker’s. With the right back-to-school sale we may get PB&J at a great price with this $1 off when you buy both PB&J. (Red Plum)

Pillsbury Sweet Moments. This is a new product and so I’d expect we’ll see a lot of great sales to go along with this $1 off coupon. I bet we’ll see lots of $1 off coupons in the weeks ahead, then at some point they’ll back the coupon values down to $0.50 off one. (General Mills)

Rhodes . This week’s $1 off coupon doesn’t expire until after Thanksgiving and I am pretty confident we’ll see the warm-n-serve rolls on sale for $2 sometime prior to that. Even at full price my local grocer sells them for something like $2.59, so they are still a great deal. Oh, and the whole grain and nut ones are reaaaallly good. (Red Plum)

Sure Deodorant. As early as this week my local grocery store that doubles coupons has Sure deodorant on sale for $2. We can use this week’s $1 off to get it free after doubled coupons. (Smart Source)

Starbucks Ice Cream. Please, please let’s have one last really stellar sale on ice cream before summers’ done so that I can use this $1 off Starbucks ice cream coupon to get a special treat. (Red Plum)

Yoplait Greek Yogurt. Doubling this $0.30 off a single Greek Yogurt cup should put a final price right at $0.25, which is my buy price for yogurt. (General Mills)

Eat Out and Recreation

Bruegger’s Bagels. Enjoy a free bagel with cream cheese now through 9/10/10 no other purchase required, plus other coupons. (Smart Source)

Baker’s Square. Various sales and deals this week only including Pie Rush Wednesday where you get a free slice of pie with any purchase, including coffee. (Smart Source)

Chuck E Cheese. Various coupons that expire 10/23/10. (Smart Source)

Taco Bell. Free Limeade Sparkler, no other purchase necessary and other coupons. Coupons expire 9/5/10. (Red Plum)

Those Betty Crocker Warm Delights are on BOGO sale at CVS this week, so that coupon can be used there to score 2 packages for about $1.84. If your CVS will accept a coupon on the free product — mine will — you can use 2 coupons and get both for a little over a dollar!

Every once in awhile Walgreen’s will have the Warm Delights Single Serve for $1 which makes them .25.

I was surprised not to see the mention in the freebies for “any Pert” product coupon…when I saw this coupon I got a couple extra papers….I am certain I have seen Pert products in the travel section of my store….I am excited to see if I can get some free shampoo/conditioner.

I was excited to see the Bruegger’s free bagel and cream cheese coupon. There’s one right by my house and a bagel and cream cheese really hits the spot every once and a while…
