Carrie’s Picks from Sunday Coupon Inserts 8/1/10

Carrie’s picks are my thoughts on which coupons from the four inserts in this weekend’s paper are most likely to turn into freebies or rock bottom-priced items. We received a Smart Source, Procter & Gamble and two Red Plum inserts. The Red Plum insert containing Unilever coupons like Q Tips, Suave, and Axe products should be labeled 8/1 Red Plum #1 and the other Red Plum insert, Nestle, DiGiorno, and Purina coupons should be labeled 8/1 Red Plum #2. These labels, along with 8/1 Smart Source and 8/1 Procter & Gamble will be used to cross-reference coupons the shopping lists at Pocket Your Dollars.

To find coupons not on this list or on the Pocket Your Dollars’ shopping lists, use the Pocket Your Dollars’ coupon database.

Coupon references are to those I got in my home delivered Minneapolis Star Tribune. It’s possible that coupons in your Sunday paper are different than mine; understand why by reading 4 reasons your paper may have different coupons than your neighbor’s. If you live in Minnesota or Western Wisconsin, you can get two free passes to the Water Park of America when you order a Star Tribune subscription through Pocket Your Dollars.

For more own type-A-ness, the coupons are organized alphabetically within category.

If you’re new to couponing, read through my picks from previous weeks to learn from my oh-so delightful commentary in weeks gone by.

If you want more copies of these coupons ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, or even restaurants, coffee shops or libraries for their unused copies. You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Your turn: Do you see any coupons for things your family buys that will turn into a great deal, but I overlooked?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Band-Aids. Small boxes of character band-aids are approximately $1.69 at Target and Walmart, so if you bought 3 boxes of them they’d be $0.68 each after this week’s $3 off 3 coupon. (Smart Source)

BIC Disposable Shaver. Buy 1, Get 1 Free. (Smart Source)

Clean & Clear. Save $1 on any Clean & Clear product, not excluding travel sizes. I *think* I have seen small bottles of these in the travel section at Target for $1. If so, then they’ll be free after this coupon. (Smart Source)

Cookbook rebate. Buy $10, before coupons, of participating Unilever products (Hellmann’s, Knorr, Ragu, Skippy or Lipton recipe Secrets) before August 31 and mail-in for a free cookbook. (Red Plum #1)

Degree Body Mist. $1.25 off 1 is enough to get a trial-sized bottle free at Target or Walmart, if they carry a small size of this specific product. (Red Plum #1)

Herbal Essence. Buy any Herbal Essence product, get any Herbal Essence or Aussie product free. (Procter & Gamble)

Joint Juice. Last time we saw a high-value Joint Juice coupon, individual bottles were $1 at Target. If they are still that price, then they’ll be free after this $2 off coupon. (Red Plum #2)

Oxy Product. There is a $1 off any Oxy product coupon in the Red Plum #2 insert that does not exclude travel sizes. If you can find a travel size of this product, then it will likely be free after this coupon. (Red Plum #2)

Pampers. Buy any Pampers diapers, get wipes free. (Procter & Gamble)

Pantene. Save $1 on any Pantene hair styler or treatment, not excluding travel sizes. This would make a travel-sized bottle free, assuming you can find Pantene in a travel size somewhere. (Procter & Gamble)

Playtex Tampons. Buy 1 Playtex Gentle Glide, Get 1 free. (Smart Source)

Pledge. Buy One Pledge Aerosol product, Get One Free. (Smart Source)

Purina Friskies Select Indoor. Buy 1, Get 1 Free. (Red Plum #2)

Reach Floss. Buy 3 Reach floss items, get $3 off. A 55-yd package of Reach Floss sells for less than $1 at Target and Walmart, making three packages free after this coupon. (Smart Source)

Scrubbing Bubbles. Buy Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning gel, Get any Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning product free. (Smart Source)

Scrubbing Bubbles, $5 Target Gift Card Coupon. Buy both a starter kit and refill bottle of Scrubbing Bubbles Daily Shower or Extend-A-Clean products and you can get a $5 Target Gift Card. (Smart Source)

Tide. Use this $1 off coupon to get a travel-sized Tide free at Target or Walmart. (Procter & Gamble)

Venus Cartridge. There are two different coupons where you’ll get either an Olay Body Wash or Olay Lotion free when you buy a Venus razor cartridge refill. This is one of three razor cartridge coupons in this week’s paper, which is unusual, since we don’t typically see coupons for them. Plus, the value of both items would qualify for this $10 mail-in rebate. (Procter & Gamble)

Windex, $5 Target Gift Card Coupon. Buy both a starter kit and package of refill pads for Windex Outdoor All-in-One products and you can get a $5 Target Gift Card. (Smart Source)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you should get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Ball or Kerr Canning Supplies. $1 off coupons to help you get your canning supplies. Who has the best prices on these? Target? Menards? Home Depot?

BIC Stationery Products. You’ll get free pens at any number of stores in the weeks ahead with this week’s $1 off 2 coupon. (Smart Source)

BIC Razor Cartridges. We frequently see coupons for disposable razors, but coupons for razor cartridge refills are much less popular. That makes this $2 off coupon very valuable. (Smart Source)

Dove Hair Care. Dove hair care products often sell at the drugstores for amazing prices that if matched with this $1 off coupon could turn into free hair products. (Red Plum #1)

Hormel Always Tender. This is quite possibly my most favorite coupon ever. Taking $1 off Hormel products, like my favorite country style boneless pork ribs, when the meat is on sale for $1.99/lb or less, results in some great buys. (Smart Source)

M&Ms. If you buy M&M Pretzel candies you could likely use this week’s Buy 2, Get 1 Free coupon alongside the $1 off 1 coupon we saw in the 7/25 Red Plum insert to get a great deal on candy. (Red Plum #1)

Pepperidge Farm Cookies. Many people LOVE these cookies and coupons for them are not common, so even these $0,60 off 1 package coupons are appreciated. (Smart Source)

Ragu. $1 off 2 is about as high-value as Ragu coupons come now days. Matched with a sale we should be able to get pasta sauce for less than $1 per jar, which is my buy price. (Red Plum #1)

Target Coupons for Procter & Gamble Products. There are an assortment of coupons for Procter & Gamble products like Crest and Charmin that are good at Target stores. These can be used alongside the manufacturer-issued coupons for the same brands you’ll find in this week’s Procter & Gamble insert. (Red Plum #1)

Target Coupons for Kellogg’s Products. There are an assortment of coupons for Kellogg’s and Keebler products that are good at Target stores. These can be used alongside any manufacturer-issued coupons for the same brands. I am cautiously optimistic we’ll see a Kellogg’s rebate and special Kellogg’s coupon insert this month, so I’d hang on to these coupons for now and wait until you can get things totally free. (Red Plum #1)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

Beech let’s Grow Mini Meals or Steamies Twin-Pack. I don’t know how much these are at regular price, but if this $1 off coupon is doubled in value I imagine they’ll be less than $1 per twin pack. (Smart Source)

Crest Toothpaste. The $0.50 off any Crest toothpaste coupon would turn into free toothpaste if we see basic types of Crest on sale for $1 in the next few weeks, which is a sale price that happens once in a blue moon. (Procter & Gamble)

Fiber One Cereal. This $0.75/1 coupon can be doubled in value, unlike most Fiber One coupons printed from the internet. (Smart Source)

Gillette Shave Gel. Hopefully we’ll see this shave gel go on sale for $2 or less so it’ll be free when this $1 off coupon is doubled in value. (Procter & Gamble)

Lipton Tea. Small boxes of black tea bags are often priced around $1, making them free or near-free after this $0.50/1 coupon. (Red Plum #1)

Milk Bone Snacks. $1 off pet snack coupons typically result in a bag of treats for $0.50 when used with the right sale and doubled in value. (Smart Source)

Eat Out and Recreation

Boston Market. Various coupons that expire August 29, 2010. (Smart Source)

Red Lobster. $3 off two lunch entrees or $4 off two dinner entrees. Coupons expire September 23, 2010. (Smart Source)

Does anyone match up coupons to Cashwise weekly sale items? Like Carrie does to Cub Foods weekly?

    1. SarahBeth

  12. Lucy

I was wondering if anyone was finding coupons in the Saturday (early Sunday edition) newspaper? The past three weeks there have not been coupons. I have purchased the papers at Cub Foods and Superamerica in MG. Please let me know if you are finding coupons on Saturday!

  13. Emily

My Target has travel sizes of Pantene hair spray for $0.97.

  14. Michelle

Where do you find the Red Plum coupons? I have never seen them in my Sunday paper. I usually buy it at the Cub or Rainbow in Maple Grove.
