Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 7/18 – 7/24/10

In addition to the sales advertised in the flyer from the Sunday paper, many Rainbow Foods and Pick N Save customers (how about you Copps folks?) received a Mega Savings coupon booklet in last week’s mail. At the end of this shopping list we’ve laid out the manufacturer-issued coupons that correspond to those coupons from the booklet.

Read the rules of coupon doubling before you go so you understand how to ensure you get your coupons doubled. Most stores have stopped doubling coupons that say “do not double” and corporate policy says that you cannot use a coupon for the free item in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. Although I wish I could, I cannot tell which coupons say “do not double.” Generally though, most printable coupons from General Mills brands (including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Yoplait, etc.) say that.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list. As we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

General Mills Cereal – Buy 6 Boxes at Regular Price and Get $10 Off Instantly at Checkout and Get a Coupon With Card for a Free Gallon of Milk (to be used on a future visit up to a $3.25 value)

A few notes:

— I bet, but won’t guarantee, that all the General Mills cereal printable coupons say “do not double” on them.

— In my experience with the free milk coupons generated from a General Mills promotion they take off $3.25 off your next order that includes milk, regardless of the price of the milk.

— Consider splitting your groceries into two transactions where you buy the cereal first and the milk(s) with your second order, using the milk coupon to pay and use the in-ad milk coupon that is Limit 1 on that second transaction so you’ll pay 41.98, but receive $3.25 in credit.

— This is one case where I bring all my cereal coupons with me. It helps a lot when they are sold out of a kind I wanted.

— To easily figure out if you are getting a good deal work backwards. For instance, I won’t pay more than $1 per box of cereal, which would mean my final price needs to be $6 or less for all 6 boxes. From there, add in the $10 you’ll get off for buying six boxes; this means the price for all 6 boxes can’t be more than $16. Then, add in whatever coupons you have (and double 5 of them, if that applies). Let’s say you had five $1/1 coupons that could be doubled and one $0.75/1 coupon; add $10.75 more (five $1 coupons, doubled to $10, plus the $0.75 for the last coupon) to bring your pre-coupon, pre-discount total to $26.75. What is $26.75? That is the highest price that all six boxes can total if you want to buy at a target price of $1 per box. The nice thing about this method is that it doesn’t count the value of the milk as part of what it takes to reach your target price.

Buy 6 and use a combination of any of the following coupons:
Cheerios: $0.50/1 from 6/27 Smart Source insert
Fiber One: $0.75/1 or $1.50/2 from 6/20 Smart Source insert, $0.75/1 Fiber One Cereals printable, a second $0.75/1 Fiber One Cereals printable or a third $0.75/1 Fiber One Cereal printable

Multiple varieties: $1/2 from 7/11 or 7/18 Smart Source inserts or $1/3 from 6/20 Smart Source insert
Total: $0.75/1 from 7/18 Smart Source insert or $1/1 Total printable
Wheaties: $0.75/1 from 7/18 Smart Source insert, $1/1 Wheaties printable or $1/1 Wheaties printable

  1. Sue

I bought 1 cream cheese with Rainbow coupon from their book plus $1/1 printable
1 Deli Deluxe with $1/1 printable and
3 Kraft Singles (with are also $2.00 each) and used $1/3 coupon from their book
    Total $8.88 minus $6.00 (3 – $1.00 coupons doubled) = $2.88 and got $5.00 off my next order!

  2. val--WI

this morning took FOREVER for me in the store…some things didn’t add up right or they were out, so i had to think of some back up ideas to get up to my $25 limit. Plus, my store now tells me they can no longer accept internet Q’s because of some doritos free for a year coupon or something?!?!?! anyone having issues with the same problem??? danactive/activia weren’t on sale, but go gurt was, so i didn’t have my coupons with me and couldn’t switch it, for the kellogs deal you have to buy 5 to get each for 1.99, and the dove ultimate is not included in the PNS coupon sale, so i just paid the $1.68 for degree to fill my amount, plus SO only uses degree.

  3. Amy

Well I went back to return my expired cheese and explained the Kraft catalina problem. The customer service clerk just gave me $5 cash! Even better than the oyno.

  4. Kierstien

I had a GREAT rainbow shopping trip :) I am going to upload pics onto facebook! I saved $75 and spent $6.15 out of pocket (including the tax!) yay!!!

And yes the Kraft deal worked for me, they also had a sign up at my store about the feeding america by the cheese!

Oh another thing I noticed a coupon pad that had TRY ME FREE rebate forms for Reynolds tinfoil…i dont have the details because i set the coupon in the carseat and my 1yr old ate it…OH MAN!!! But it was if you bought it from like 4/1/2010 to sometime in 2011 (if i remember right) anyone else see these??? it was by the meat on a big cardboard stand for reynolds tin foil for grilling.

    1. Sheila

Kierstien mentioned the Reynolds Try Me Free. My son is 8 so I still have my rebate form–that is so funny that your 1yr old ate it :)

Try Me Free Reynolds Wrap Foil Grill when you buy any other Reynolds Wrap Foil Product (excludes smaller pks and wrappers) good between 4/1/10 and 1/15/11.

Also . . . Olay Total Effects was 2/7 at my Pick n Save (WI) and I was finally able to use those $4.00 off a bottle coupon and paired it with the Buy Olay Total Effects get Ivory Bar Soap free. They had 10 packs for 3.50 each and the coupon was for up to $3.00. I used it to get 10 packs of Ivory soap for 50 cents each.

I had the best fun at the store! $121.78 regular price merchandise for $15.42! (my best ever)
Thank you to Carrie and Laura and all of you who post the deals you find. I love this list.
      Sheila

      1. Laura Wales

Sheila – WOW! I thought I did well with my deals for the week ($24.22 spent, $63.90 saved – 74%), but you did way better!

  5. Sheila

Kraft deal worked for me–I bought 3 philly cheese and 2 deli deluxe. Used coupon book philly coupon and 2 deli deluxe coupons $1.00 each doubled plus got 5.00 off next order.

Cinnabon cereal was 2.69 for small box/try it free/$1.00 coupon doubled = .69 out of pocket plus rebate.

For the General Mills deal: Cheerios–bought 6 with 1.00 peelies on each box. 20.94 total -$10.00=10.94 -11.00 in coupons (5 double + 1 reg)= free cereal + coupon free milk

Thanks for the heads up on the Kraft deal!

  6. colleen

My Roundys card stopped working after 10 transactions is there a limit?

    1. MK

A while back I was told by a manager that 6 was the limit for the Roundy’s card. I found out because I did a 7th transaction in a day. Embarrassing! You can buy, you just can’t reap any rewards from purchases beyond six in a day.

  7. Denise

I didn’t see it mentioned here yet, but I got a $1 off Q for a 12 roll pack of Cottonelle when I got my free sample of Cottonelle (from Walmart?) a few weeks back. Had a not-so-good Rainbow run today, they were out of so many things I had intended to buy.

  8. Rachel

The Kraft catalina worked for me – 2 cream cheese and 3 kraft deli selects.

Also, I purchased the Hillshire Farms product and it has a Fresh Taste Challenge. “$5 says Hillshire Farm tastes fresher than you think pre-packaged lunchmeat can taste.” You can choose from $5 in coupons (if it’s fresher) or a $5 grocery gift card (if it’s not fresher). Unique code is located under the cover. I printed the coupons and they are $1/2 (exp 8/20), $2/3 (valid 9/16-10/29), $2/3 (valid 10/16-12/31).

There was also a $1/1 in a home mailer from Mambo Sprouts for the Almond Breeze. Ex: 8/15. It is a little booklet. Also there’s a $1/1 Smart Source coupon from their site here http://www.almondbreeze.com. :) Hope this helps.

    1. Chelle

Ooops the Mambo Sprouts coupon doesn’t expire until 8/31. Not a huge deal, but an oops on my part. Sorry. I don’t know when the SS coupon ex as it always chops off the top of mine. Hmm.

  10. Kazz

There is an Oscar Meyer Hot Dog coupon ($1 off 2) that I used on the premium (no additives no nitrates) hot dogs that usually cost $3.29 a pack — which are also on sale this week for only $1.99, so after doubled coupon that only $1 for a pack of 8.

  11. Krista

I didn’t get the coupon booklet. Will they have extras in the store? Sometimes they have them at the registers.

    1. Chelle

I requested one at the service desk and the lady handed one right over. They don’t put them out, but every time I have asked in the past they have given me one. I don’t think she really wanted to, but she did. The only reason I say this is because she hesitated, but then went right under the counter to grab one. :)

      1. Jennifer M.

I asked at the Maple Grove store and she said they didn’t get any of the coupon books. I was bummed because I wanted the BOGO muffins badly as I have used up the ones in my freezer from last time they were BOGO. :o(

  12. Linda

I did not get the $5 catalina coupon. I bought two cream cheese and 2 deli delux plus one 100 calorie cheese. Was that one not included in the deal? Does anyone know exactly what items count toward this deal? It was still better than free with the coupons I used, so I don’t feel too bad about it.
    Thanks

    1. Amanda

I bought 4 deli deluxe cheese and 1 melters cheese, and it worked. Hope that helps

      1. Surina

Did you mean the Kraft Melt Downs?

        1. Amanda

Yes, sorry. That’s just what we refer to them as at our house. I guess I forgot the real name!

    2. Chelle

      All that is included is:
Kraft singles, Kraft Parmesan, Kraft Natural Cheese (Chunks, Shred, Crumbles, Sticks and Cubes 5 oz +), Kraft Stringums, Kraft Cracker Cuts, Kraft Deli Deluxe slices, Philly Cream Cheese, Velveeta, Cracker Barrel Cheese 5 oz +, Cheez Whiz, Breakstone’s or Knudsen Sour Cream 16 oz + and Breakstone’s or Knudsen Cottage Cheese 16 oz +.

I bought one Philly, 3 Singles, one parmesan and one 100 calorie pack. I know it’s six, but I had coupons for all that needed to be used. Remember this Catalina deal runs through 8/15 so we can do it again the next few weeks. If I can scrounge up coupons I totally will.

      1. Surina

Chelle- Where do you find all of this info about unadvertised deals like this?

        1. Chelle

I received a print out last week (maybe because I bought Kraft cheese items). And I heard a rumor on the frugal blogs I read. It was this huge Catalina print out. I got it at my Pick N Save in NE WI.

MG rainbow had an endcap full of Gatorade with peelies for $1/3. If you only buy 6 in each order at $1 each, they are .33 each. Lots better than getting stuck buying them out of a vending machine at games:>)

    1. Laura Wales

Connie – Oh, I so wish I would have paid attention to the endcaps when I went shopping yesterday! My husband guzzles Gatorade like there’s no tomorrow. I’ll have to stop back on Saturday to see if there are any left.

  14. Mary

I had a new CS manager at check out in Bloomington this morning…very crabby, did not double my coupons because I had the $10 off the GM cereal deal, and my subtotal was down to $16. I very politely said.. the $10 is a manufacture coupon, so before man coupons I am over $25. The register did double the coupons, she did a manual override. She is pretty, young, light brown hair, I have always had mostly coupon friendly cashiers there.. so frustrating when you go in with a plan and a budget.

For my second transaction I waited for another clerk to come on duty.. no problem… did the GM cereal deal again with doubling coupons!

  15. Leann

OK, went back to Rainbow (494 & 9 in Plymouth). Found the peelie that says $5 OYNO when you by 5 Kraft products. Took it up to customer service with my receipt, and they still wouldn’t give it to me!!! I have to wait until a certain manager comes on duty again tomorrow and I guess argue with her. This is very frustrating! I’m trying to be nice, but my control is slipping. The lady I spook with said that since there is no bar code on the peelie she has “no idea what to do about it”. Well they stocked it on their shelves! Guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow and try again. Any suggestions if they still refuse to honor the deal??

    1. krista

Leann, make sure all of your products were actually Kraft. I say this because I accidentally picked up one Kraft cheese and 2 crystal farms that were sitting right next to them, so obviously my catalina didn’t print, grrrr. Also, I have found that the Rainbow on 494 and 9 is quite coupon unfriendly, I prefer to drive a little further to the one on Hwy 55 and cty rd 24. They are always very nice!

  16. amanda

I went to Rainbow this afternoon. All 5 or 6 of my coupons were not doubled. I used 2 or 3 of the suggested coupon ideas here. Are all Rainbow stores supposed to double coupons today? It’s Wednesday right? And, yes, I of course, drove 15 miles home before I thought to check my receipt.

    1. Sue

Your coupons should double as long as they do not say “Do Not Double” on them and your total comes to $25 before coupons. Some stores use shelf price, so your total may be able to be less than $25 if you bought items that were on sale. A couple of weeks or so ago my Rainbow switched from shelf price to sale price :( Not sure if it was the cashier or the programming on the registers, but I haven’t tried shelf price since. It’s Maplewood – does anyone know for sure if they go by sale price now?

  17. Jen

If anyone needs cat food (we did:), the Iams Healthy Natural Salmon is on temporary sale for $3.5 a bag, usually $7 something a bag plus the $1 off coupon doubled tonight made it $1.5 a bag! Great price. And several varieties of Fancy Feast canned are .29 each. With a doubled $1 off 24-really good! I may go back for more on Sat. Good night at Rainbow. It could have been great but I’m still learning and make mistakes. :)

  18. Lea

Got $45 of food today for $8 (after the $5 kraft coupon). Thanks for your website! It would have been $0.99 if I had known better, and the -$10 cereal deal worked, but the cereal was on sale at my pick’n'save and I didn’t realize that was a problem until after. I priced out the cereal after finding that deal here, and then worked out what I wanted to buy. When I went to a different pick’n'save today I was shocked to find the cereal a much higher price. I cruised over to the pick’n'save I priced the cereal at. Confidant with my decision, I marched to the register expecting to get a $2 money maker deal. I was sorely disappointed when my $10 didn’t come off, so I ended up paying $13! Boo! It’s ok though, I am new to this!

    1. Laura Wales

Lea – Good for you! Don’t feel bad: I still mess up quite frequently, and I’ve been doing this for almost two years! :)

      1. Lea

Actually, now I am a little upset – tell me if I am wrong, but I went in already this morning, and I checked the cereal aisle. The cheerios are now NORMAL PRICE for the $2.79 that I paid “On sale” yesterday… also, the $10 deal is advertised in the aisle today… Was it not yet active in my area when I did it yesterday? (SE Wisconsin)

I didn’t have my receipt with me when I went today, but maybe I will run back and talk to the manager. I’d love to get that $10 off my $13 :)

        1. Jessica

You were looking ahead–Wisconsin is one week behind Minneapolis. So you needed to look at last week’s flyer….We do overlap part of the week (Thurs-Sat). (Does this make sense?) Our new flyer comes out on Thursday and Minneapolis comes out on Sunday. So if you are shopping Weds, you need to look at PYD’s shopping list for last week for deals, not the current week.

          1. Amanda

Interesting–I’m not sure about that—I’m in Oshkosh, WI and the deals always match up, except for a few minor things like the 1.98 milk coupon this week—I had one for popsicles instead and had milk last week. My ad had the GM cereal deal in it.

          2. Lea

Oh well, going today to make the magic happen B)

        2. Lea

The magic happened! Here’s an after-action report:

            Lea,
Glad to see that I’m not the only coupon wierdo in SE wisconsin (oak Creek) that does the coupon spreadsheet! I’ve had nothing but problems at the pick n saves on 27 & college, 76 and rawson and holt. but the one on 27 & ryan is pretty good. but I always have to double check the ads and always take the ad with me to point things out. and I watch the cashier like a hawk as she checks my stuff out. i put the items on the belt in the same order that I have my spreadsheet typed up. that way it is easier to compare. Good luck!

  19. Laura Wales

Lea – Hmmm…does your sales week start on Sunday like ours does, or does it start on a different day?

    1. Lea

I’m not sure, a bit confused. This ad, on the internet, reports that it starts today and runs through Wednesday of next week. I guess my sale week starts on Thursday… though I swear I read different dates somewhere else!

  20. Neil

So I just want to make sure since I’ve seen various comments over the last couple of weeks. It is $ 25 after any store coupons but before any manufacture coupons and this is based on the prices on the left side of the receipt (Reg Price) as opposed to the sale prices on the right side of the receipt? Do I understood this correctly to be the case in most if not all the stores?

What is the deal with Rainbow not taking RR anymore unless for a specific item? Or is this just a Rainbow (Nothtown-Blaine) store? it is so frustrating on how they seem to change policy without notice? I know the double cpns makes rainbow a good deal and with the gas discounts but I think there customer service/policy procedures are much more difficult.

    1. Stacy

That happened to me this week too (FL). The manager came over and took them off after the register already accepted them. She said they dont take Walmart Qs. Another cashier yelled out “yes we do, it says ‘manufacturer’ on them.” The manager told her that they dont. I politely said “I have been doing this for about 6 months with no problem.” She said they have never taken them. I said with a wink, “well I guess it all depends on which cashier I go to.” In the end it only costs me $4 but I was still upset.

  23. Dawn E

Lea – our PnS/Copps deals ‘normally’ go Thursday – Wednesday in the Madison area…I say normally because with holiday weeks/weekends they go askew for a little bit but that seems to be the normal run. And our ad is hit and miss to match up with the site – some weeks it seems that it’s exact to the previous week on here and other weeks it seems 1/2 previous and 1/2 current week! But at least I get a heads up on some things to look for :) HTH!
