How was your weekend? We had plans to go to a lot of Maple Grove Days events over the weekend, but since my son is getting his first molar (and therefore is very grumpy), we were only able to make it to the parade on Thursday night with Carrie and her family. Here are some events going on this summer if you’re looking to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Twin Cities Navy Week started this past weekend and runs through July 24. Did you know that there are over 4,300 Minnesotans currently serving in the Navy? This celebration showcases Navy officers and sailors serving the local community. Family-friendly (and several free) events run throughout the week, including St. Paul Saints and Minnesota Twins games (not free, sorry!) and performances at Mears Park and Xcel Energy River Blast. Free Summer Movies in Minneapolis. Just a reminder that now through August 28, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board is hosting free summer movies every night (except Sundays). There are nightly themes (Friday night is family night), and all movies start 15 minutes after sunset (around 9:15pm at the beginning of the summer and around 8:15pm near the end of August). For more information and a schedule of movies being shown, just go to the Minneapolis Music & Movies in the Parks website. Tonight’s movie is Avatar at Northeast Park.
Nature in the Neighborhood at Minneapolis Parks is a free program this summer in which MPRB naturalists “round up” available kids for fun, hands-on activities and games. Topics vary based on the kids’ interest and age. For a full schedule of summertime dates/times/locations, go here.
