Sorry about the length of this post, but as I mentioned before, there are about a bazillion events going on in the Twin Cities this weekend. I really wanted to share the two Monday events with you now so you could prepare for them (the Ramona and Beezus contest and Zac Efron autograph signing). Enjoy and have a great weekend!
Tamarack Swamp Nature Preserve Tour. This swamp located in Woodbury is one of the most unique and diverse wetlands in the Twin Cities, and you have the opportunity to take a tour of it on July 22 from 6:30-8:30pm. Bunker Hills Regional Park. Join a naturalist for campfire talks at the Bunker Hills campground. Programs are free and will be held on July 17 and 31 starting at 7pm. Meet behind the visitor center to enjoy a roaring campfire, interactive activities, and family-friendly presentations.
Como Town. Mad Science of MN will have Make and Take Booths on July 17 and 18 from 12-2pm at Como Town, or stop by to see Dazzling Dave the Yo-Yo Master on July 31 and August at 1 and 2pm for free. Plus, kids with a knack for coloring can enter to win an all-day free unlimited ride wristband good during the 2010 season when they print, color, and send in this picture during the month of July.
Creative Kidstuff Fun-Time Saturday. This free event is on July 17 from 1-3pm. Kids can make their own unique set of binoculars to help them explore the store and the world outside.
Guthrie Theater. Families can explore the Guthrie Theater during a free open house on Saturday, July 17 from 9am-5:30pm. Check out theater workshops, a self-guided backstage tour, costumed family photo booths, face painting, and more.
Raptors in the Yard. On the third Sunday of every month, the Lowry Nature Center allows you to get up close and personal with a Merlin and Barred Owl for free from 2-4pm. The next event is coming up this Sunday, July 18, and future events are on 8/15, 9/19, 10/17, and 11/21.
Ramona and Beezus Girls Day Contest. Enter for your chance to win brunch at American Girl and tickets to see Ramona and Beezus at the Theatres at Mall of America. To enter, submit an essay (250 words or more) about an influential woman in your life. You must submit your essay in this Moms Like Me thread by July 19 at noon (moms can enter on behalf of their children). 10 winners will get to bring a special friend (mom, sister, etc.) to the event on July 24 beginning at 10am. As of today, I only counted 5 entries, so your chances are pretty good!
Zac Efron Autograph Signing. I can hear the teenage girls screaming now…Zac Efron (star of the High School Musical movies) will be at the Mall of America on July 19 starting at 2:30pm signing autographs in celebration of the release of his new film, Charlie St. Cloud. Be at the Best Buy Rotunda starting at 1:30pm for a chance to win prizes from KDWB. See the autograph signing guidelines for more information.

You need a wristband to get Zac’s autograph. They start giving them away at 8am according to the autograph signing guidelines on the MOA webiste.

The Bakken Museum in Minneapolis by Lake Calhoun is having free admissions for 10 days starting today (7/16). With different special events each day… super fun museum for kids… very hands on activities!
