Cub shoppers, keep your eyes out for a coupon booklet entitled “Sizzling Savings” that has some good manufacturer’s coupons that are good all summer long. The coupons don’t even have the Cub logo on them so they can easily be used at any store that accepts coupons.
Since Cub Foods’ stores accept manufacturer-issued coupons up to 3 months past their expiration date (and in some cases up to 5 or 6 months past) some of those referenced on this list are expired. If you are new to Pocket Your Dollars, then learn to read this shopping list. If you are having issues, troubleshoot problems printing coupons here.
Remember that this is a starting list of deals for the week. As readers leave comments with bargains they found at their local store, we get emails with deal ideas, or we read about other deals across the blogosphere, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.
Your turn: What on-going deals do you know of Cub, where a coupon used with a regularly priced item is a good price? Did you find any other deals or coupons at your Cub?
Produce Deals
Grapes $2.99/lb (estimated price)
Buy exactly one pound and use in-ad coupon to get them free
Final price: Free after coupon**
**A good price for grapes is $0.99/lb, so most people pick up 2-3 pounds and use the in-ad coupon for a pound free, but end up still paying $1.99/lb or more.

Stockman & Dakota Sirloin Tip Roast – Buy 1, Get 1 Free
Use in-ad coupon to get sale price
Final price: $2.50/lb after coupon**
**I don’t like to pay more than $1.99/lb for meat, but I haven’t seen this on sale for $1.99 in quite some time – since it isn’t typical “summer” meat. I might (maybe?) get two, cube them and use for shish kabobs or in stir fry since I only have one package of diced meat left from the roasts I bought last spring.
Buy $25 in Gold N Plump Chicken, Save $10
Use in-ad manufacturer’s coupon for discount
Final price: Varies**
**Since this in-ad coupon is a manufacturer’s coupon you cannot use any other manufacturer-issued coupons on the chicken. In my experience, Cub’s price on chicken is really high (since I buy fresh boneless skinless breasts for $1.99), so I’m not confident that this coupon brings the price down into my buy range
Shrimp Ring $17.00 (estimated price)
Use $5/1 Shrimp printable

Carrie, you often refer to getting your chicken or meat for 1.99…how and where do you get it for that price? Thanks!
Jill – Here, there any everywhere :) I buy it at Rainbow, Target, Cub, Aldi (on occasion) and when I had a Sam’s Club membership to buy formula for my girls I bought it there. I just wait for the sales and stock up when the price is right. Like last spring the sirloin roasts I mention int he Cub ad were $1.99/lb at Target. I spent almost all my weekly grocery budget on meat and bought 4 big roasts. I kept one as a roast, cooked one in the crockpot and shredded it, and cubed the other two to be used in stir fry and other dishes. I only have one package of that cubed beef left and don’t expect too many stellar roast sales over the summer. Chicken breasts go on sale for $1.99/lb or less about once per month, ground turkey has been going on sale a lot in recent months too. I use the Hormel coupons to get pork ribs and pork chops for much less than $1.99/lb. A few months back I went into Cub on a Monday morning to buy some props for a TV segment and ground turkey was $0.33/lb. I bought 33 pounds worth and paid just over $10! I made meatballs, hamburger patties, meatloaf and browned a bunch of it. We are coming to the end of that too so I have started to keep my eyes out for good ground turkey sales now too :) Hope that helps.
$.33/lb???? Wish I had caught that sale! What brand was the turkey?
Silver Lake/St. Anthony Cub has blackberries for $0.50 for a 6oz container as part of their 4th of July sale. Today is the last day for that. I’m a fiend for blackberries, so I bought a bunch.
They still have the $0.67 for 12oz. Malt O Meal cereals thing going — huge piles of it in the front entrance. I checked the expiration dates on the packages — they’re all a year from now. I like the Malt O Meal shredded wheat cereal, so I’ve been stocking up.
WOW! Ok, this is all still new to me so THANK YOU for encouraging me to keep my eyes open in the weeks to come.
Being the CUB chicken is a manf coupon, will Target take it do you think? I saw in the paper this morning that their chicken is on sale for 3.49 per #, so this could possibly be a much better deal?
Jill – Yes, they may take it. I’d call your store in advance of your trip and ask either the store manager or the Customer Service Manager to be sure. I did the math and assume you can get 7.25 pounds of chicken at Target. It will be $2.11/lb after the coupon. Much better than what you’d pay at Cub and more in line with what a rock bottom price is.
Depending on what I plan to do with them, I’m sometimes willing to pay extra for chicken breasts that don’t have the “up to 15% solution” thing because the sodium levels in the solution are insane.
But if it’s a recipe where I was going to add salt, there’s no point in paying a premium for the chicken without added sodium. I just leave it out of the recipe.
Helen,
Where do you find the lingo to say if it’s “up to 15% solution?” I guess I know no 2 chicken is created equal, and i’d love to sort out the better, less sodium option from the poorer high sodium options.
Anyone have comments on chicken quality? I’m willing to go up a bit on price to get better quality.
Julie
I’ve noticed the frozen chicken tends to have the “up to 15% solution” on the label, usually below the main name or down at the bottom of the front of the package.
An easy way to check is to look at the nutritional information box — chicken should have 60 to 80 mg in a portion. The saline ones will often be over 400. Some contain sugar as well.
Also, labeling on chicken has gotten really bizarre. I keep seeing “fresh” on frozen chicken, which is a contradiction in terms. So I read the whole label before buying.
Fresh & Natural grocery store (Hwy 96 and Lexington in Shoreview) has had Amish, vegetable fed, whole chickens for $1.69/lb for several months. The last time I was there was 3 weeks ago, so before you go I’d call them to see if it’s still at that price.
Since Cub takes expired manufacturers coupons, I sometimes save coupons like the $5 off of chicken one for when their chicken is actually on sale. I have never had a problem with them accepting an expired one from their ads.
thanks Andrea… I may try that sometime
Off-topic, but the Unique thrift stores are having a 50% off everything sale today and tomorrow. They over-price some of their items, but the 50% off usually puts it back into the good bargain range. And they underprice some of their items too.
Oh, and the Columbia Heights store has a few Caphalon pots/pans behind the counter to the far right. They look to be in pretty good condition. I bought one; there are 3 more.
Er, Calphalon. They’re the actual anodized aluminum ones.
Does anyone think the deal for buy4 get a iTunes gift card is a good deal?
At first I didn’t think so but then I realized my TP and Paper Towel supply is dwindling and I have a need for an itunes gc for a present. I’m looking at 2x bounty -2 $1 q’s = 9.98 plus 2 charmin – 2 $.25q 11.48.. total OOP 21.46 plus itunes gc. It works out better than what I would normally do at rainbow for doubles and the $25 PG deal to get the $5 OYNO. THere it would be 1 bounty, 1 charmin 3 cascades for $25.48 – $5.50 q’s = 19.98 then $5 off for $14.98 OOP. I’d still have to buy the Itunes present though which actually would put me at $29.98 OOP.
$.50 Blackberries at Cub today…..Manager’s special…not sure but it may go through tomorrow. I bought 16 and will be freezing 12 for smoothies or other treats. We love Blackberries!
I was at Cub yesterday and did the buy $25 of GNP chicken, get $10 off. I also had 2 – $1 off GNP coupons, they let me use them in conjunction with the ad coupon no problem. I went to Cub Stillwater.
FYI: Walgreens has Cascade $3.99 this week (minus .50 manufacturer coupon and $1 register reward) it comes down to $2.49.
Mary – I love that deal, since I use the Register Reward at Rainbow where it will double to be worth $2 :)
Me and my husband went to cub foods on white bear ave. they said they dont take any internet coupons anymore. not even the free ones. do you know why that is?
I was at cub foods in rogers tonight and they still had the “managers special” of $.50 per container for blackberries.
OH I AM SO HAPPY. I’ve been following pocket your dollar for 3 months now. I was always bummed because I didn’t think we had any of the grocery stores in are area that you do match ups for. We live half way between Menomonie and Eau Claire WI. Menomonie is closer and they don’t, but I just found out their is a Cub in Eau Claire. It’s in a part of town that I don’t hardly travel, and when I got to thinking about it there use to be a Coop’s too. I don’t know for sure if Coop’s is still their do to Festival opening a couple of years ago near by. I’m a little bummed because yeasterday I threw out all my expired coupons, but I couldn’t be happier.
Sarah – My parents live in Eau Claire and I don’t think the Cub that used to be there (off of Birch St) is a Cub anymore. I think it’s called Gordy’s County Market now. I’m pretty sure Copps is still there, though (off of E Hamilton).
Your right. It surprised me when I had googled grocery stores in the Eau Claire area and Cub came up their. I had been their maybe twice, but it was a IGA. I’ll check on the Copp’s. It always looks so empty when I drive by(only go by their maybe twice a year). Hopefully they are still in business.
Drove by the old Copp’s off of Hamilton tonight, and it is a Gordy’s Country Market too. What a bummer.
I got boneless skinless chicken breasts for 1.78/lb in a family pack at Wal-mart yesterday in Baxter. They were in the flat styrofoam tray and all normal size, sometimes with the individually frozen variety you get some mutantly huge ones, makes me wonder what the poor chicken looked like.
Last week, I was not allowed to use my RR at the Maple Grove Rainbow store. Both the clerk and the gal at the service desk said that their policy had changed and they weren’t going to accept them any more. I specifically asked this woman if in fact they had recently changed their policy to which she replied yes. “We just can’t accept those RR any more.” OK, I thought. No argument…but dang! From you comment, Carrie, it seems as though you are still or have recently used yours? I would love to use them at Rainbow as well as Cub, which I love!
Susan – I have used them fairly recently (maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago), but they might have changed their policy again without me.
I used a bunch of them at Cub just last week.
scotch brite link failed.

Somewhat silly question – I’m inexperienced with this whole thing. If I have a coupon for “Save $2 on 1 lb. or more any variety Jennie O Turkey Store Product”, does that mean I can get the ground turkey for free? And as many pounds as I like? What language would limit the coupon to a single item… that would have to be in the fine print, right? Cuz I’m not seeing any limiters in the fine print, and it’s making me curious. Free ground turkey!
I’d share where to get this wonderful coupon, but it was in the goodie bag at a race I ran a few weeks ago.
I would interpret that coupon as $2 off an 1 individual package of Jennie O Turkey Store Product that is 1 Lb or more. So if there was a product that was $2 and weighed at least 1 pound then yes, you would get free turkey. HTH.
[...] Thanks, Pocket Your Dollars [...]
1 pound bag of kiwi (7 fruits) cost $1 this week (14 cents each). Also $1 for a pound of baby carrots, raddishes, and various cole slaws.
any idea which malt-o-meal cereals are 67 cents?
Whoops, I only paid attention to the shredded wheat, since that’s what I eat. When it comes in at under $0.06/oz, as this promotion does, I stock up. The ones I saw were in big bins in the entry where the carts are; it’s a manufacturer promotional size, so I think it’s just whatever a store has until they run out.
Since I live alone, I actually like the smaller bags.
The super low prices on some produce at Cub this week are temporary (e.g. the berries for $.50, watermelon for $1.99, bag of kiwi for $1, baby carrots for $1 & cole slaw for $1).
I asked on Monday. The prices will go up when a given supply is gone.
Saw the Malt-O-Meal bagged cereal for $.69; but all I saw was the frosted shredded wheat on a display. Could be more in the cereal aisle……………….
I’ve tried 2 different North Metro Targets and they won’t accept the Cub manufactures coupon for the chicken. Does anyone know a Target that will accept the coupon?
The Malt O Meal cereal that I found was in a little display box in the cereal aisle (silver lake Cub). It’s small ‘trial’ size bags. The frosted flakes was 11 oz and the frosted shredded wheat was 12 oz. I compared the price per ounce to the cub brand and it was much better – about 0.06 per oz. I also got the kiwi bag for a buck deal. They also have 93% ground beed 3 lb chubs for about $8 – that’s a good deal to me, as we don’t use the 80-20.
I got my cub book in the mail just now
.28 schweigert fun dogs (limit 2)
.28 cub dog & burger buns (limit 2)
bogo no name steakhouse burgers (save up to 10.98)
bogo tostitos chips (save up to 3.59)

2/$5 nestle drumsticks
.99 16 oz coffeemate creamer

bogo nature sweet tomatoes ( save up to 3.49)
and lot more!
Cub in Chanhassen last night had their Trop50 in the pineapple/mango and blueberry/pomegranate flavors on sale for a buck. Free juice if you have the $1/1 printable. Not sure if it’s just Chanhassen or not, it was marked as Manager’s Special. Expiration date was 7/20 so I’m guessing that’s why….we go throught a lot of juice though so fine for us! Didn’t see any of the Malt O Meal cereal…checked the endcaps and the cereal aisle.
Noticed the $1.99 Xtra detergent coupon in the coupon book right away. There’s a $1.00 man (SS 6/6) but it makes a 68oz+ bottle only 99 cents!
Pampers Itunes Deal at Cub update!!! They have the old packages (non-Dry Max) reduced at 6.99 for Jumbos. Buy 4 and it will still give you the $15 Itunes gift card for free. To make this deal even better is if you have the $3 off Pampers coupons recently given out in the mail from Pampers. Ymmv depending on the coupons you have. I paid 16.92 for the gift card and the diapers. So the four packs only cost me 1.92 (for 112 diapers!!!).
I was at Cub yesterday snagging the chicken coupon for later use, and I noticed they have a new coupon book out.
I keep forgetting to check for their end-of-week sales. Can anyone tell me how they tend to work?
