Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 6/26 – 7/3/10

Dear readers, thank you so much for your patience this week as it took me an extra 24 hours to get this list up because of my daughter’s overnight hospital stay yesterday (she’s on the mend now, thank God). Every single reader kept a good attitude and was supportive, thank you. It was actually therapeutic to work on this tonight and accomplish something tangible on my to-do list. My heart overflows with gratitude for the amazing community I’m blessed to be connected to through this blog. You all are fabulous!

Read the rules of coupon doubling before you go so you understand how to ensure you get your coupons doubled. Most stores have stopped doubling coupons that say “do not double” and corporate policy says that you cannot use a coupon for the free item in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. Although I wish I could, I cannot tell which coupons say “do not double.” Generally though, most printable coupons from General Mills brands (including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Yoplait, etc.) say that.

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list. As we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: What other deals did you pick? What was the highlight of your shopping trip this week?

i’m getting mixed messages from the SLP rainbow and register rewards. first time i went, i used the self checkout. the woman who came to scan my coupons said they were fine, because the rainbow catalinas are on the same system. next time at SLP i was told no. ah the never ending battle to use RRs outside of walgreens.

  2. Priscilla

There were Wet Ones MFG coupons in a Cub booklet that were $1/1

  3. Amanda

If you got the free sample of crystal light (mine came in the mail today) from vocal point, it came with (3) $2.00 off of 1 coupons–meaning 3 free this week!

Also, my store had a bunch of boxes of nabisco crackers that had green peelie stickers on them for $1.00 off of any 1 box…also making it free this week!

    1. Therese S.

I agree….perfect timing for the Crystal Light coupons….this is my new favorite drink at work!!

    2. Sarah Burrill

Used my VP Crystal Lite Q’s at Target where they are 1.97 this week.

    3. Chelle

Oh man thanks for reminding me! I just got mine in the mail yesterday. :) And even better that I don’t have to use coupons out of my 5 available to double.

  4. Shannon B.

@Carrie just to let you know on the Palermo coupon not being accepted by Rainbow, I actually went to a taste test at Palermo’s Pizza in Milwaukee and they asked the taste testers if we tried to use the coupon and if we had any problems. I had used the coupon and did not have problems at my pick n save with it, but they said if you have problems to call and report it to Palermo’s customer service line. They said they would get in touch with the stores to verify that it was in fact a valid coupon.

    1. Sue

I used the Palermos pizza coupon last week at Rainbow. The cashier questioned it, but Customer Service OK’d it saying they verified it, found it was directly from Palermos web site.

The way I’ve worked my Kellogg’s deal for this week goes like this (provided everything is included in the sale):

Buy 2 Kellogg’s Cinnabon cereal, use 2 $1/1 printables (from the Kellogg’s website)
Buy 2 Rice Krispies Treats, use 2 $1/1 printables (from Snackpicks)
Buy 2 Keebler cookies, use 2 $1/1 printables (from Snackpicks, if you snagged them a few weeks ago; they’re not there anymore, I don’t think)
Buy 2 Wheatables Nut Crisps, use 2 $1.50/1 printables (check the PYD coupon database)
Spend $6 after coupons (only five $1/1 will double)
Final Price: $.75/each product ($6 total), plus 2 gallons of free milk

(Before anyone points out that this doesn’t hit the threshold, I’m also buying two boxes of Ritz Crackerfuls, using 2 $1.50/1 Crackerfuls printables, and using a B1G1 Mentos coupon to bring the total up to $25.)

The Rainbow Foods in Bloomington must be rearranging their natural foods isle. In the frozen section of the natural foods isle, they have Kashi pizza for $3.17. I found a printable coupon for $.75 off Kashi on allyou.com. They also have 32 oz bricks of Land O’Lakes cheese for $3.99, which is nearly half off. I don’t know if the other Rainbows are running those same deals…

  7. jo

Has anyone noticed on double coupons some will double over the price of the item and some will not. For example last Sat I had a $1 coupon on Kraft Dressing ($1.69) doubled fine for money maker. In same transaction I bought single serve Skinny Cow ($1.25) but my $1 coupon only took off an extra 25 cents on top of the $1.

    1. Katie

I have noticed this too. I had the same thing happen with the Taco Bell coupon a few weeks ago. I am guessing it has something to do with how the registers are programmed?

      1. Laura Wales

Coupons at Rainbow can only double up to the shelf price of whatever item the coupon is linked to. Since Skinny Cow products are regularly only $1.25 each, the most the coupon will double to is $1.25. Does that make sense?

        1. jo

          Yes Laura Thanks
Now more math involved for the double coupons I will need to bring a calculator with.

          1. Mary

I have had a coupons double to over the value at Rainbow too. It hasn’t happend often, and I am not sure why it doubled to more than the value of the item, but it has happened to me too : )

    2. Shannon B

It is based on the shelf-price. If shelf price is over $2 the coupon will double. If something has less than $2 for shelf price like skinny skow ice cream cups it will only take up to the value of the product.

    3. Leann

I had the same thing happen with my Skinny Cow double coupon, I pointed it out (not understanding why it only took the .25 off) and the cashier manually put in an extra .75 so I got my $2 off. Guess I know why now.

  8. Sarah

Did anyone notice the 10# bag of Chicken Leg quarters for $0.59/lbs? (Back page of ad.) I thought this was a good deal…Not sure what the normal price of these are though.

  9. SC

Carrie, I am not finding the Kraft Singles Meltdown coupon. I am however seeing A Borden meltables coupon for $1 off. What zip code did you use to find this product coupon?

  10. Shelly

I consider the $1.48 per pack of Coke products my “rock bottom price” and this is when I stock up for the groups of teenage boys that hang out at our house. I’ve found I can stock up for about this price at Christmas/New Years time; Superbowl; Memorial Day week; 4th of July week and Labor Day week. This week I got the same price on Pepsi products at Cub. We’ll have a wide variety of soda in our basement for the boys to choose from….

    1. Sandy

Stocking up for late grad party. Wooo!
      Variety is good.

  11. Anne

There is a $1 DND coupon for Reddi-wip in the June All You magazine, pg 152.

  12. Michele

Toni, Does Rainbow take expired coupons? The only $1.50 off Wheatables Nut Crisps that I could find expired 6/18/10.

    1. Toni
  13. Robby

There is Johnsonville $1.50 off 1 3lb in the 5/2/10 SS to match up with the $6.88 Rainbow coupon.

  14. Terri

The Miracle Whip that is one sale 2/$5. Can we use the $1 off one coupon that Cub has?

    1. Robby

If not, I just found $1.50/2 in the 6/20/10 SS 22oz. bottles

    2. Wren

My rainbow does, I would just call them and ask.

    3. terri

Not often do I see someone with the same spelling of my name. Hope they don’t get us confused. lol I’m the one with the big mouth.

  15. Cari

The last time I had a Palermo’s coupon, the Freezer door where the pizza’s were had a note stating that the Maple Grove Rainbow does not take Palermos coupons….?? I didn’t even try to use it since they were so bold about it…. even though I didn’t understand why…

    1. Chelle

The only thing I can think of is that any time I have seen them they are pdfs and print all goofy. Totally looks like a fake coupon so I didn’t even use it. :( Who knows. Maybe they should be more specific on their stance.

  16. Sandra Stoldt

I can’t find the Melt Down q either – anyone find it? If so, which zip code did u use?
    Thanks!

  17. susan

I am wondering how much meat you buy? I see your results page and see very little meat. I am wondering about the kind of meals you serve.

  18. Madison

I was inspired to start couponing again after seeing the double double days last Saturday at Copps. I’m so glad I stumbled on these matchups! Thanks for all your hard work Carrie.

I only wish my Copps would accept internet printables…. they won’t take any. Is anyone else in the same boat?

    1. Valerie G.

Madison, I shop at Pick N save and they take internet printables. Have you doubled checked? PNS & Copps are basically the same store. They won’t take them for a free item or sometimes for a value over $1, but my store takes printables all the time. Haven’t heard of Copps being different. I would certainly double check.

      1. Madison

        Valerie,
It’s just my specific Copps… the one in my neighborhood. The rest in town take them just like your PNS. I can’t figure out why.

        1. Valerie G.

Madison, I think I’d ask to speak with a manager for an explanation or shoot a note to corporate asking them to explain. It couldn’t hurt. they could be losing business because if PNS is close enough, I’d certainly shop there to get my best value.

          1. Madison

Good idea Valerie. I emailed corporate and referenced my specific store. We’ll see what they say!

  19. Claire

I know Carrie has said the on chicken you can use the regular price when figuring your $25 threshold, is that true with all meats? (Like the ground beef.)

    1. Amanda

yes! ;O) You can use anything towards getting to your threshold…GC, food bags, etc

  20. Erin

You can’t use the $1.50/1 Johnsonville coupon for the ones on sale for $3.99 because that coupon is for the 3 lb package. There is a $0.75/2 you can use for them, however in the same insert or $1/2 in 05-23-10 RP

Dang, the printable is for MatchLight. Rainbow add distinctly says….”Excludes Match Light”. Oh well.

  22. Andrea

Hey, I’m new to this blog and am really grateful for this shopping list! I used to think I was a pretty savvy shopper but I see now there are all kinds of deals I wasn’t getting. I have a question about this week’s Rainbow ad – there is a coupon for butter at 2/$3 but it isn’t listed in the deals here. Is that not a good deal? I always thought it was. If not, where do you find it cheaper and what do you consider a good deal on butter?

    1. Pam

I would consider that a good price…it’s cheaper than Sam’s or Costco multi-pack price. We go through a lot of butter…I will be buying it! I am not sure why it’s not on the list.

    2. Alison

Sometimes it goes on sale for 98 cents and then I stock up. But if you need butter now, this is still a great price.

      1. SarahBeth

I agree – I try to stock up when it is under $1

    3. Laura Wales

Andrea – You’re right, I’d consider that a decent deal on butter. I’ve seen it go lower than $1/lb during the summer at both Rainbow and Cub, but this is good for now.

  23. Sandy

Priscilla mentioned the Cub “Sizzling Savings” coupon book found at front door in Maple Grove having Wet Ones q. It also contains $1/1q Playtex tampon product,$1/1 Schick Disposable, $1/1 Banana Boat. But I love this….You can sweeten the Popsicle deal – Rainbow q for 87c, second for $1.49 and use mfg q in same Cub book $1/2q. Final price on 2 …..36 cents. (if my math is correct. I don’t know how I could screw that up but….. : )

The Gerber yogurts are $2.49 at the Rainbow in Bloomington and Richfield. Also I saw some peelies on them at Target at Southtown today as well…they are also $2.49. I bought this deal 3 weeks ago at Rainbow and got $2 oyno. And I also got $2 onyo when you purchase 3 more packages. Great deal if you get your money back!

  25. Beth

FYI- I received a Rainbow coupon book good 6/17-6/26 in the mail. There are two $1/1 manufactures coupons for Dove products that are double eligible. One for Dove Beauty Bar 6 pk or one Dove body wash. The other is for one Dove Haircare Product. They expire on 7/2.

  26. Maryellen

In Rainbows in store ad they have a coupon for $1.00 off 2 Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise and also one for $1.00 off 3 Kraft dressing. These look like store coupons so should be able to stack with the other coupons.

  27. Sandy

Tree top deal….does the post cereal count toward the $25.

  28. Lisa

Carrie, thanks for all of your hard work on this! I have become a die hard fan and have saved SO much money! I spent $40 OOP on $200 of groceries and it is all stuff we will use. LOVE it!

  29. Mary

I did the Kellogg deal, and these were all included in the deal. There were lots of snack items with the 8/$20 tag. I had $1 coupons for all 8, so $13 off of the $20,

    Buy 4 Kellogg’s Cinnabon Cereal
    Buy 2 Rice Krispies Treats
    Buy 2 Wheatables Nut Crisps

Bloomington Rainbow was out of butter… argh!

    1. Kristi

my rainbow the cinnabon cereal was not marked on the deal, so I skipped it :(

The Rainbow in Uptown doesn’t take Cub manufacturers coupons. She said they aren’t supponsed to take coupons with other stores names on them even if it is a manufacturer one. She got pretty mad when she heard other stores were taking them. Oh well, every store is different.

  32. Georgette

Kraft 8 oz shredded cheese is on sale for $2. I doubled the $1/2 coupon from the Cub ad and paid $1 each — so, that’s a better deal than the Roundy’s cheese for $1.25.

  33. jen

was just at Rainbow and found coupons hanging on the sidecap display of Nabisco Crackers for $2 off when you buy 1 box of nabisco crackers and 1 12 pack of coke products. Was planning on buying ritz crackers anyway and knew they were going to cost me a $1 so this was a unexpected bonus. Wanted to pass it on. Hope you find them too.

Hi everybody! If you haven’t used all your BOGO coupons where you buy Kingford Charcoal and get a free Hidden Valley dressing/Glad product/KC Masterpiece BBQ yet, you could purchase the charcoal on sale, get any one of the aforementioned items free, then use the Rainbow flyer coupon for $4 off Fresh Chef’s Grill Hamburger Patties when you buy one of each! I have no idea how much the hamburger is before the Q so I can’t say whether it’s a fantastic deal, but I’ll post later after I’ve been to the store and let you all know :)

    1. Mindy

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is some of the Fresh Chef’s Grill Hamburger Patties are only $3.99 (the 80/20 variety) for a 4-pack, so FREE after the $4/1 Q. You could get leaner patties for just $2 after the Q. The bad news is, my Rainbow (Richfield) declined my BOGO for Glad storage product WYB Kingsford Charcoal (they’ve just started denying Internet Q’s for free stuff) so I had to pay for the Glad product. I hate surprises at the register! Anyway, you could do the same deal with HV Ranch dressing or KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce using MQ’s and come out much better. HTH someone!

I’m really bummed because I was able to print 2 of each of the Kingsford BOGOs and they don’t expire until the end of July. I was super excited to use them this week with the cheap charcoal and free hamburger deal :( Anyone know of another Rainbow that might take Internet Q’s for the freebies?

      1. Laura Wales

Mindy – I don’t think you’ll find a Rainbow anywhere that takes printable coupons on free or B1G1 free items. If we have any of these coupons linked in the list – sorry! We keep forgetting!

    2. SOFI

where can i find these coupons for the bogos ?

  35. GG

What did I do wrong? Kraft dressing on sale for 1.66. I had the SM $1/ off coupon. I wanted to double it. I didn’t expect money back b/c I know my Pick N Save doesn’t do that. The checker said he couldn’t double it. I didn’t know what to say. I did end up saying can you reduce the price of the double? I ended up paying .34 and I don’t know how or why. What can I say to get it free next time? (I’m not really complaining, .34 is fine, I just want it free.)

  36. GG

Oops. Another thought…why doesn’t Pick N Save double more than 5 coupons? I know they randomly double 10. Why the limit? It is very annoying not only for me, but for the checker. I have been doing multiple orders (with no problem), but it is such a hassle…they get reimbursed, so why the limit?

  37. Mindy

Oh, and I have to brag about my Kellogg’s deal! I got 5 boxes of Cinnabon cereal, 1 box of Rice Krispies Treats, 2 boxes of Wheatables. Used 5 $1/1 Cinnabon Q’s from this week’s paper and the following printables: $1/1 RC Treats, 2 $1.50/1 Wheatables. 8/$20 – $14 Q’s = $6, plus I got a Q for $6 Roundy’s milk at the bottom of my receipt :)

  38. K....

Caprisons are $2. I used the $1 off 2 manu. coupon from the Cub ad making them $1 box after doubled coupon.

  39. Jane

The Reddi Whip coupon from All You Mag says Do Not Double. Rainbow in Maplewood didn’t let it go.

One cashier allowed the Cub Mfg coupon for Mircle Whip and another cashier said no to the Hidden Valley Cub Mfg. coupon…Depends on who you get. That’s okay, I still got good deals.

  40. susan

Little Drummies are not included in Nestle Sale

  41. Laura

If you do have the Kraft Melts Cheese coupon you can use it on the Regular Kraft singles. With the Rainbow coupon and Kraft Melts coupon you get the Regular singles cheese for free. We bought 47 items last night and got them for 46.00…we saved 67.00. COOL!

  42. karen
