Here’s the latest local deals roundup. I (Laura) try to find a variety of activities that you and your family can do in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas for free or close to free. Plus, I like to find the best deals on hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses. Many of the deals and events I’ve mentioned in previous local deal roundups are still valid, so be sure to check them out here!
National Get Outdoors Day. On June 12, celebrate “National Get Outdoors Day” with the Three Rivers Park District. You can get a free daily pass for the swim ponds, archery range, horse trails, and more. You can also canoe, kayak, or bike for free. For a list of all of the activities taking place on June 12, go to the Three Rivers Park District website.
Split Rock Lighthouse. Going up north this next weekend? Well, if you’re looking for something to do in the Duluth area, check out the free open house at Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, MN on June 12 from 10am-6pm. Visitors can enjoy the historic site’s regular program and explore the surrounding Split Rock Lighthouse State Park free of charge (regular admission is $8/adults, $6/seniors & college students, $5/kids).
Washington County Historical Society Vintage Baseball. If you’ve seen modern baseball as played at Target Field (go, Twins!), you may be interested in seeing old-school baseball. The St. Croix Base Ball Club wears 1860’s uniforms and plays by 1860’s rules. For a schedule of upcoming games, check out their website. Their next game is June 12 in Columbia Heights.
ExploreMinnesota.com. If you’re looking to go on a “staycation” this year and just explore your city and/or the great state of Minnesota, visit this website to find a listing of goings-on around the state, including lodging, attractions, events, performances and exhibits, and community information.
HotHotelDeals.com. Visit this website to get low prices on hotels in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. They offer package deals where you can get free gift certificates, discounted tickets, and more with your room reservation. Plus, sign up to receive their e-newsletter and get a 50% off coupon for any of their locations. If you already live in the MSP area, you’re probably not going to stay in a hotel, but this may be a good option for friends and family who are visiting.
Your turn: What are your favorite “staycation” activities to do in the Twin Cities and Minnesota?
