Aldi Shopping List 6/27 – 7/3/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

First-time Aldi shoppers, remember to bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and bring your own grocery bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.

If it helps you appreciate Aldi a little more, read Wikipedia’s article about them and learn that Aldi is owned by the parent company that owns Trader Joe’s. Don’t forget Aldi’s double guarantee too, where you will get a replacement product AND a refund if you are not 100% satisfied.

If you don’t live near an Aldi, but can get your hands on an ad remember that Target and Walmart will price match equivalent produce items (if sold in the same quantity, packaging, etc.) and Walmart will price match generics if they carry a Great Value brand in the same size/quantity.

Your turn: Did you shop at Aldi before you started reading Pocket Your Dollars? (Just curious) :)

Produce

Strawberries. $0.99/pint. Last week I bought 4 pounds of these, sliced and froze two and ate two. I turned one pound into a homemade strawberry syrup for pancakes on Saturday. My made up recipe is to cook strawberries, a little bit of water and some honey until the strawberries are soft. Yum!

Cantaloupe. $0.99 each. This is a great price!

Sweet corn. $0.99/package. In my experience their packages contain 4 small-ish ears of corn.

Blueberries. $1.19/pint. The week before the 4th of July is when everyone, everywhere puts blueberries on sale at some of the lowest prices of the season.

Honeydew melon. $1.29 each.

I JUST went to Aldi’s last Saturday…Here’s what I found: The grapes are delish right now (sometimes hard to find, unless you stand there and taste them before buying them…which I find a bit wrong). Also, in case you forget your bags (which I often do), they have all the packing boxes for the grocery items on a big ol’ cart thing. So, have at it…and pack your groceries in those boxes…for free! =]

Yes, I have shopped at Aldi since the one opened in Little Canada/Roseville. I prefer the one in Mahtomedi as it seems to carry different items and is not as busy as the LC/Roseville store. Thanks for the updates as I don’t always get an Aldi ad in my paper.

I’ve shopped at Aldi since shortly after they opened the St Paul Rice Street location. Saw something on the news and thought it sounded worth checking out.

Yes. A friend of mine recomended Aldi, and I have been shopping there ever since. Helps out with the grocery budget a lot. I have recomended it to others, and they enjoy the savings too.

I’ve been shopping Aldi for over three years. I easily save about 30 to 40 percent on my food bill comparied to cub or rainbow. The produce is always a good deal and thier meat is good quallity. I do shop at rainbow and cub for other items.
