*UPDATE* Aldi Shopping List 6/13 – 6/19/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Update: Since I didn’t get an Aldi ad in my paper this week (like I mention in the “Your Turn” question below) I asked folks to help share prices. One very kind reader emailed me the pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberry deals that are on the list below. I didn’t ask her where she was from, and now I suspect she lives in a different region of the country than me (here in Minneapolis) and that is why her advertised produce prices are so much lower than what Midwesterners are finding in their stores this week.

***

First-time Aldi shoppers, remember to bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and bring your own grocery bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.

If it helps you appreciate Aldi a little more, read Wikipedia’s article about them and learn that Aldi is owned by the parent company that owns Trader Joe’s. Don’t forget Aldi’s double guarantee too, where you will get a replacement product AND a refund if you are not 100% satisfied.

If you don’t live near an Aldi, but can get your hands on an ad remember that Target and Walmart will price match equivalent produce items (if sold in the same quantity, packaging, etc.) and Walmart will price match generics if they carry a Great Value brand in the same size/quantity.

Your turn: I didn’t get an Aldi ad this week and am updating this list based on your feedback. Any other noteworthy sales?

Produce Sales

Do you need me to tell you that $0.99 is a great price for any of these? It is in fact, the best price I bet you’ll find all summer for any of the three of these. (Thanks Jessica B. for sharing these with us!) Please note that Aldi prices may differ from store to store based on location and competition, so you may not find these exact prices at your local Aldi.

Cucumbers. $0.39 each. This is their regular price for a giant cucumber. (Thanks, Jessica!)

Baby Carrots. $0.99. This is their regular price for a pound of baby carrots. (Thanks, Trish!)

Cantaloupe. $0.99 each. (Midwest stores have them priced at $1.69, which is still a good deal on cantaloupe.)

Pineapple. $0.99 each. (Midwest stores have these regular priced at something like $2.xx)

Strawberries. $0.99 per pound. (Midwest stores have these priced at $1.19-$1.29, which is still a good deal on strawberries.)

    Baby carrots are .99
Garlic is always my favorite buy for 3 heads for .79!

  2. Maryann says:

Heck, I never get an Aldi ad. I don’t know why they stopped putting them in. I’m not that far from one!

  3. Jessica says:

    Strawberries $1.19
    Cucumbers $.39
Tomatos 4 pack $1.19 or $1.69 (I can’t remember and my husband threw my receipt away!)

That’s all I picked up and can remember. :)

  4. Jessica B. says:

I got an ad in my paper today and these are the produce picks of the week:
    Pineapple 99 cents each
    Strawberries 99 cents per lb.
    Cantaloupe 99 cents each

We have a new store that just opened up by us, so there is also a coupon for $5 off a $30 purchase. I’m thinking I should probably get there to use this one. I’ve never seen coupons for Aldi before.

  5. Kim says:

Just wanted to thank you for posting the Aldi’s list as I never get the deals in my paper, but do usually travel the 20 minutes to the store!
Also wanted to point out that flour and eggs are almost the same as Sam’s. Does anyone know a cheap source for butter?

  6. Alexis says:

unfortunately, these were not the prices at the Aldi on Penn and Lowry this morning.
    STRAWBERRIES $1.29
    CANTALOPE $1.69

I was a little disappointed not to get the deals you posted. Perhaps this was just at one Aldi that had the $.99 prices?

    • Cara says:

These were the prices at the Burnsville location off Hwy 13 – and the pineapple was NOT $0.99. I didn’t get an ad either….

  7. Leigh says:

I ran out to the Aldi on University in St. Paul and there were NO strawberries anywhere….sad, I was hoping to make more jam. Also the cantalopes were $1.69.

    Better luck next time.

  8. Violets' Mom says:

The cantalope and strawberries were not on sale at the Rosemount location either. In fact, I didn’t get the flyer in Sundays’ paper like I usually do but I went to the store anyway yesterday.

  9. Jenni says:

Does Aldi have different prices at different locations like Target? Ugh this bugs me! Does anyone know if the Burnsville location has a sale on the strawberries and pineapple?

    • Jessica B. says:

This may be the case since others are reporting that these items are not on sale at their locations. My store is in Manitowoc, WI if that helps anyone!

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Jenni – So here’s what happened. I didn’t get a weekly ad, but someone sent me those deals. I didn’t ask (my mistake) where that someone was from. Who knows, maybe they are in a different region of the country and their prices are totally different than ours? Anyone know which produce items are on sale in the Twin Cities metro area this week?

  10. Alex's Mom says:

Pineapple at the Rice and 36 Store are $2.49 and strawberries were $1.29. I’ve noticed that any sale items on fruits and veggies are best purchased on Sunday – they haven’t been restocking that store very well during the week. Went Saturday to pick up a couple more of the $1.39 blueberries from last weeks ad and they didn’t have any and didn’t even have the price marker on display. Becoming very unpredictable with quality and prices at this location.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

I recently learned that my store (and all Aldi’s??) restock every other day so I’ve learned their schedule now and can plan my trips for when I think things will be there.

  11. wayne says:

it would be nice to have a store in Alexandria Mn. to give Walmart a little competition on groceries

  12. Christy says:

The Moundsview one did NOT have the pineapple deal and had no strawberries either. :(

  13. tami says:

I went to Aldi’s today for the first time in Brooklyn Park and the deals mentioned above were not there. All fruit is by the each and not by the pound per the cashier. I bought two peaches at .59 each and I thought it was by the pound. Blueberries did not look too good. I did get 5 bananas for less than 1.00 and butter for 1.99 pound. It was an interesting place to try once for me. They were very low in produce. I liked checking it out and the store was very clean.

  14. Jessica says:

I read Target’s policy, and it seemed like they would not allow produce from Aldi to be price-matched, as it would not be the exact same brand (Aldi has their own brand for most things). Am I just not understanding?

  15. Kim says:

I also found the above higher prices at my Aldi’s Monday morning, but I wanted to bulk purchase strawberries for the freezer instead of doing the u-pick place. The manager put in a special order for me and said produce deliveries have been iffy…so if it comes in later this week, I’ve saved myself some mosquito bites and a sore back. If not, to the u-pick I go on Saturday!

  16. Alison says:

Was at Aldi in Minnetonka today and picked up a whole seedless watermelon for $3.69.
    Blueberries – $1.69
    Avocados – 79 cents
    cucumbers 39 cents
    strawberries $1.29
Their milk was not $1.98 today – have others noticed that sometimes it is, and other weeks it’s a bit higher? Today skim was $2.19 and other milks were even higher. I’ll get milk at Rainbow this week.
