Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 5/23 – 5/29/10

It is that week of the year when the deals are wild at Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save because of the deluge of new Kraft and Unilever coupons and corresponding promotions. This same thing happened about this same time last year, and I just used up my last serving of Crystal Light from that frenzy, so I’ll be glad to get more free this week (we only serve it when we have company for dinner. It is cheaper than pop, since it’s free) :)

If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Read the rules of coupon doubling before you go so you understand how to ensure you get your coupons doubled. Most stores have stopped doubling coupons that say “do not double” and corporate policy says that you cannot use a coupon for the free item in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. Although I wish I could, I cannot tell which coupons say “do not double.” Generally though, most printable coupons from General Mills brands (including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Yoplait, etc.) say that.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list. As we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: What are you going to buy for the Buy 10 select Unilever products, Get $5 off your next shopping trip promotion? I share my personal shopping list for that within the list.

A couple of extra deals I found & did today. Sorry, I clip all of my coupons so I am not sure which inserts they are from, but you can look it up on couponmom.com :)

Texas Toast Croutons: on sale for $1.09, used .50/1 coupon that doubled bringing the total down to .09! I especially love the Sea Salt & Pepper ones! :)

Breyers 100 calorie 4-pack Yogurt Crunch: on sale for $2.50 each, used .75/1 coupon that doubled, final cost was $1.00. Hubby loves these :)

Quaker Chewy Strawberry Vanilla Granola Bars are clearanced 50% off making them just 1.42 (that in itself is cheaper than any sale I’ve seen on these granola bars…), and I used .75/2 coupon that doubled, making them just .67 each. My kids LOVE these granola bars – it’ll be a nice treat for them!

There was also a Quaker True Delights that was 50% off & I got one of those… had no coupon but I am sure there are some out there for this, too…

All in all, I got $200 worth of stuff for just $74, and I did the sunscreen deal, too!

    1. SarahBeth

Actually, it looks like PYD has its own coupon database now! Check it out under “Toolbox”
I just typed in “Texas Toast” and VIOLA!!! You can find coupons in the 3/21SS or 5/16SS

      1. Laura Wales

SarahBeth – You are correct! We should probably do a post about that, huh? :)

      2. Jenn

Very cool about the Q db on PYD! :) Thanks for letting us know!

  2. anita

also if you got the last Mambo sprouts coupon newsletter there are $1/1 MQ for Bear Naked and $1/1 for Nut Thins ($2.69- $1- $1double= $0.69).

  3. natalie

Apple Valley would Not take the cub man pop coupon and told me that no rainbow should.

    1. Shelly

I think it must really be up to the management of each store. I brought it with my coupons knowing that if the cashier said “no” or if she would have had to call a manager over, I would have just taken it back. But my store tends to be more “liberal” with their coupon policies than many Rainbows. She took it and used it just like any coupon – and she looked at each coupon before she began scanning. So it wasn’t an oversite.

  4. Leann

I can’t believe the deals I got today at Rainbow! Carrie and Laura, thank you so much for all your work to help us all save money. Today I did 5 trips through the check-out (with my husband’s help) and we got a total of $200 worth of food for…..$60! That is my all time best trip! I’m so excited I can’t wait to tell my siblings about it over the holiday weekend. When I will of course be bringing along some of my freebies!

    1. Laura Wales

Leann – Thanks for sharing your success story! Isn’t it fun? :) I love telling people about the savings I can get.

  5. Jessica B.

I got two of the Dean’s dips today, and received a coupon at checkout for $1 off my next order! With the doubled coupon they were already free, so this made them into a money maker! Yay!

  6. Priscilla

I was able to use the $2/4 Cub Pepsi coupon today with no issues & I also had the same coupon from a local grocery store ad (but no store name on the coupon) and I used that one as well – seperate transactions of course. Worked wonderfully!

  7. Priscilla

Just a note for everyone, I went to SuperTarget this morning, before I went to Rainbow & saw that their Big Watermelons were $2.99 (rainbow’s are $3.99) and their sweet corn was .25/ear (Rainbow & Cub has it for .50/ear)
Bought the ST corn last Saturday, grilled it as usual & it was DELICIOUS!

    1. Kristi

I looked for it at super target on Tuesday to check prices and didn’t even see any watermelons! I might have to go back, or have my mom grab one! thanks.

  8. Melissa

    Hi all,
I just finished my first “pocket your dollars” shopping trip! Woo hoo! I just wanted to let everyone know a few things….
Dove deodorant was not priced at 2.00 on the aisle. So I took one priced for 2.79 and it did ring up at 2.00. Yeah!
The Rainbow in Savage honored the Cub ad mf coupon for 2.00 off the pepsi 12 packs (on sale for 1.48 each).
Ranch dressing packets are on sale for 4/$5 so I bought 12 of them and then was able to use the $5 off “spring grilling and spring cleaning” in ad coupon. So it brought them down to 12 packets for $10. If it’s something you use, I think that’s a great deal.

In all I got 169.42 worth of groceries for 65.64 Not bad for a first timer! Thanks Carrie!!!!

  9. Nancy

Anyone try the water coupons today? Just making sure they work before I tried them… not sure if they are for a different size than listed or not.

  10. Nancy

I think I deleted my own comment :/ Has anyone used the water coupons today and had success?

  11. CHRIS

there is $1 off pellie on the charcoal. $3.98 after doubled coupon. Columbia heights rainbow.

  12. Lisa

FYI – picked up the 2 Deans dips used:
$1/2 printed q, dbl, got both for free and then got a catalina for $1 off next shopping trip! Love money makers, especially when they are unexpected!

  13. Teri

What a deal this week. Here’s what I got for $2.98

1 bag of Kingsford Charcoal ($6.98 regular price and used Rainbow coupon for $5.98, then used the $1 manf q from Cub doubled) Total price = $3.98

    1 Farmhouse Org. Hidden Valley Dressing ($2.50 – $1 q doubled, don’t know where I got that q from) Total price = $.50

1 Hidden Valley Ranch $2.50 (bugs me that I didn’t have a coupon for this too)

Two KC Marinades ($2.50 each and used 2 $1 q from above doubled) Total $1.00

Total for all five item $7.98 less the $5 coupon if you spent $15 on Kingsford, Glad, KC or Hidden Valley gives me an out of pocket cost of $2.98.

And just to confirm. Supertarget does have 40 oz Heinz ketchup for $1, Sweet Corn for $.25 an ear (wonderful and sweet), and really good seedless watermelon for $2.99

Best deals that I’ve gotten for quite some time.

    1. Kristi

ooh, they let you use coupons with the $5 manf coupon! I might do this deal sat then!

  14. Barb

Did the Kraft foods sampler and received a “free” OM deli select and a “free” Kraft mac n cheese explosion dinner AND a rebate for $10 off when you buy $30 on Kraft foods! It didn’t take long to hit $30, but with all the coupons I did it spending less than $10 total.

Also, saved my $1/2 Dixie plates from the Roundy’s coupon book, it doesn’t expire until June

  15. Terry

VERY DISAPPOINTED AT SHOPPERS WHO DECIDE TO PULL OF STICKYS ON PRODUCTS. RAINBOW HAS TOSTITOS CHIPS ON SALE FOR $2.99 WITH $1.00 OFF COUPON ON THE PACKAGES. THAT BRINGS THEM DOWN TO 99 CENTS AFTER DOUBLED. GREAT DEAL. BUT WHEN SHOPPERS TAKE PEELIES OFF HOW FAIR IS IT TO THE OTHER SHOPPERS TO GRAB THAT DEAL. (I SAW 1 LADY TAKE 10 PEELIES OFF THE PRDOUCT).

    1. e e

I agree. I used to be one of the people that would take peelies, but sense I now know better I don’t do it anymore. If it is stuck to the product I leave it alone. Not fair to the other people.

  16. maggie

I totally agree with you about the peelies. They are placed on the product so those that are buying that product can use it.

  17. Lisa **

Maggie and Terry – I’d agree that 10 peelies is a little excessive but hopefully if they are taking the peelie it’s on a product that they are planning to use. I’m guessing that no one is taking a peelie just to take it and not buy the product which is the point of a peelie.

But ……..If you’re looking for really good tostito’s style chips Aldi’s regular everyday price is $0.99 for these and they’re good. I’m not an Aldi shopper by any means, just not a fan but these and the “doritos” and salsa are the only things I stop to get these

    1. Melissa

On the subject of peelies, unless you are the person buying that bag, you shouldn’t be peeling the coupon off. I see it as part of the product, not to be separated from the product except by the person buying the product.

That’s my opinion, anyway, for whatever it’s worth. I think I would have had a hard time not saying something to the person peeling the 10 coupons, directly.

After a little bit of verbal tog-of-war, I was able to use the Cub coupon for Kingsford Charcoal at the Rainbow on Arcade. The cashier/manager acquiesced once I asked about corporate policy, stated that other stores were accepting the coupon and asked why this once wasn’t.

However, the peanut butter coupon didn’t double (which I didn’t notice until I got home). It’s OK…a discount that I got on a raincheck item balanced out since the item is on sale this week.

Here’s a couple of question for you all:
      1. Is the Quarry Rainbow store still open 24 hours?
      2. What is their policy on honoring weekly specials? Do they end at midnight? 3 am? 6 am?

      Thanks for your assistance!

Was at the SLP Rainbow on Wednesday and as I stood in line at the Customer Service line to get a rain check on Wacky Mac, I saw a SHREK-TACULAR SAVINGS display full of coupon booklets (Shrek on the cover)….Inside are the following coupons:

I bought the Pringles listed above and when I looked through my pile of receipts there is a $1 off your next order from Pringles!!! Making them 0.84 cents a can!

Adding to the coupons available for the Starbucks Ice Cream. If you got to Starbucksicecream.com, there is a $.75 coupon available to print. Not as good as the dollar in the paper, but doubled makes it half price.

Anyone try the Kraft Meltdowns yet…my family was not impressed. It melted fine but turned to rock soon after!

    1. Cindy P.

Your right, not so good for melting on chips. But I like them for grilled cheese or a panini.

  22. Julie

I didn’t get a Sweet Baby Ray BBQ in my Smart source coupon pack in my newspaper and I am wondering where I could get one for the Rainbow special.
    Thanks

Re. Aldi’s salsa – u are rt. – isn’t it great? We love it. Aldi’s also has cocoa powder (for baking) at a super price & same with imported dark choc with macadamia nut (big) candy bars. Yum!

Anyone know if the $25 minimum to double coupons is BEFORE the coupon discounts, or after? Do I need to spend a minimum of $25 AFTER all coupons are applied in order to get the 5 manufacturers coupons doubled? Just want to make sure I am getting the most out of each trip through the checkout.

    Thanks!

    1. Erin

The $25 minimum is before coupons and you can calculate using shelf price (regular cost of items before any sales). Just this morning my total at the register was $22 before coupons, but my coupons doubled because the shelf price of my items would have been over $25.

Today was a great Rainbow day for me! I spent less than $5 on roughly $37 in groceries! I love all the free cheese this week!!!

  25. Kristi

the skippy .75/2 is up again.

    1. Sarah

Thanks for the heads up! We eat this like it’s going out of style!

    2. Mary

We eat so much peanut butter too, Thanks I printed the 75 cent coupon! Off to Rainbow!

    3. Jolene

Thank you! I just printed out the 60/2 so I wasn’t sure if the 75/2 would still print out for me, but it did! Yea! We go through a lot of peanut butter as well — so I may just be buying 8 jars today.

It had never occurred to me that one could use the $2 Pepsi coupon from the Cub ad at Rainbow until I saw it mentioned here. Realizing that it did say “Manufacturer’s coupon” on it, I decided that I had nothing to lose by trying it. I handed the coupon to the cashier at the Roseville Rainbow (feeling a bit nervous, as it wasn’t my usual cashier) and said, “I’m not sure if I can use this here or not…” She shrugged her shoulders and scanned it and, sure enough, it worked.

I also got my 2 free bottles of Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce, free Temptations kitty t-r-e-a-t-s with a doubled $1 coupon, $2 off on Starbucks ice cream, $1.50 off on 2 packs of Johnsonville Bold Chili sausages, and a Betty Crocker Warm Delights cookie for $0.19. (I also bought a $25 Kohl’s gift card as a birthday present for my favorite auntie, which I may supplement with the freebie from Bath & Body Works.)

I feel like I’ve still got a lot to learn, but I’m having a great time doing it! Thanks to everyone here at PYD!

I was so thrilled with that deal, too, Alice. I was surprised the Pepsi deal wasn’t included on the list, because with the $2 off coupon it makes it $1.10 a box if I remember correctly from Wednesday. That’s the cheapest I remember in years. But, I gather that not all Rainbows are accepting that Cub manufacturer’s coupon, so maybe that’s why it’s not included. But even the $1.50 per box without the coupon is still an unusually good deal. Watching my teenage sons & his friends playing basketball and football last night, and then reaching for the sodas made me really appreciate this deal this week!!!

The betty crocker website has $0.40 / 1 suddenly salad coupons after registering.
    http://www.bettycrocker.com/coupons-promotions/coupons/coupons

The helmans link gave me “out of prints”

My zip code (54915) on coupons.com has $1/1 for Kahiki products.

Thanks for the great list, I have saved tons of money and tried lots of new products :)

Update on a couple of deals– I could NOT use Soy Joy BOGO coupons to get 2 free at Eagan RB. However, I was able to use 2 $1/1 coupons for the Banana Boat sunscreen deal– paying $4 for 2 in total!

  29. Jenn

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this already, sorry if I’m repeating. The Lipton soup mix coupon is also back up now. Yeah!

  30. Sheridan

Great day for saving at Rainbow! $53 for $165 of groceries! Thanks Carrie and PYD!
