Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 5/16 – 5/22/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Rainbow Foods, Copps, and Pick N Save shoppers should be excited about this mile-long list of deals. You can get some freebies, btu tons of “cheapies” this week when you have your coupons doubled on Wednesday or Saturday. If you shop at Copps and your ad doesn’t match the items mentioned in this shopping list, then check out what we saw for sales last week.

Read the rules of coupon doubling before you go so you understand how to ensure you get your coupons doubled. Most stores have stopped doubling coupons that say “do not double” and corporate policy says that you cannot use a coupon for the free item in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. Although I wish I could, I cannot tell which coupons say “do not double.” Generally though, most printable coupons from General Mills brands (including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Yoplait, etc.) say that.

Two things to remember about this list of deals. First, it does not include every sale-priced item that has a coupon. It only has those items whose final price is low enough for us to mention it. Second, it is a starting list. As we learn of more deals whose final price is low enough we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

Your turn: How did your shopping trip go?

***** Be sure you check the deals in the Cent-sational Savings coupon booklet too this week when you make your list (although about half of them are also in the ad). *****

Comments

  1. Lisa says:

There is a $1/1 Yo-Plus manufacturer’s coupon on the Target website. It does not say, “Do not double”! The Roseville Rainbow’s newer policy is to take all MQs from Cub and Target. So, 2 yogurts free!

  2. Amanda says:

I found bright green peelies on the small digiorno pizzas for $1.00 off making it free this week. I don’t have the coupon with me, but I believe they were for the 200 calorie pizzas

    • Therese says:

      what Rainbow…..I love these pizzas!!!

      • Amanda says:

Oshkosh, WI Koeller Street. I just found them last week, so maybe you could check your store? They are bright green, so that should help. I believe I found them right on the 200 calorie pizzas, but you could check all the digiorno pizzas just in case

  3. Lisa ** says:

There is a totino’s pizza roll catalina that started this week….I have the details somewhere. I want to say it was

    2 bags $2 oyno
    3 bags $3 oyno
    4 bags $5 oyno

(does not include the small boxes)

The bags are 3/$9 this week. 4 bags = $12 minus $2 if you have the $1/2 q’s from the totino’s site (DND) = $10 – $5 OYNO brings it down to $5 for 4 bags or $1.25 a piece.

There were also some Q’s in the inserts listed in one of the coupon databases but I haven’t checked them yet so there could be a better deal.

  4. Andrea says:

There’s a MFQ in the Cub add this week for Coke. Get $2 off when you purchase 4…AND a MFQ to get a free package of brats when you buy 4 coke 12 packs.

    • SarahBeth says:

A lot of people have reported having trouble using the MFR coupons from Cub ads at other stores like Rainbow. Let us know if it works for you!

    • Lisa says:

I used the Cub $2 coupon along with the Rainbow Coke deal. The manager rang me up! Yeah! So, $7 for (5)12 packs…

      • Gina says:

I tried using the Cub Coke Q yesterday and was told they will not take manufacturer Qs from other stores. This was at the Lakeville Rainbow. Anyone else try this store?

    • Lisa O. says:

I hate to burst bubbles, but unfortunately, the Rainbow ad manufacturer coupon is to get the b4g1, and the Cub $2 off coupon is also a manufacturer coupon. Roundy’s policy is that you can’t use 2 manufacturer coupons together on the one purchase. So really the stores shouldn’t have taken both. But I used the 5 for $9, and then used the Hillshire farms coupon. Still, for Coke, a GREAT deal. That’s still the cheapest I’ve ever gotten it. Plus it adds to my coke points!! :)

      • Carrie Rocha says:

Moral of the story – You cannot assume all the coupons printed in a sales flyer are store coupons or all the coupons in the Smartsource and Red Plum coupon inserts are manufacturer’s coupons. You always have to read the coupons to see which it is.

  5. SarahBeth says:

The Starbucks Frappuccino printable link is not working.

  6. Maria says:

    The Farm Rich Q expired 5/16 :(

  7. SarahBeth says:

Don’t forget – at Rainbow you get a $0.05 Credit on Your Order for Each Reusable Grocery Bag you bring. So bring your own bags into the store and receive a $0.05 credit for each one!!!

    • Amanda says:

I always put everything in a bag…even milk or other large items. One time I went and had purchased several capri sun and told them not to put them in a bag, but they refused to give me credit…so now I just bag everything…5 cents is 5 cents!! Be sure to remind the cashier, and if they forget..stop at the service counter for a refund!

      • SarahBeth says:

I always put at least 2 to 4 bags on the belt before my food. The cashier has to pick them up and move them to the belt before they can start scanning. So they always punch in the credit right away. Rarely do they miss it at my Rainbow.

  8. Melissa says:

Regarding the skinless boneless chix that is on sale this week. What is average size/cost of the packages? How many pieces are in a package?

    • Rebekah L. says:

A family pack is usually around 3 lbs. in weight. A general rule is that 2 chicken breasts = 1 lb., so a 3 lb. package will have between 6-7 chicken breasts in it.

  9. Kierstien says:

    Coca-Cola, Diet Coke or Coca-Cola Zero $2.25
Buy 4 selected packs of pop and use in-ad coupon to receive a free 12-pack
    Final price: $1.25 each ($0.15/can)

Shouldnt this be $1.80 after in store coupon ?

    • SarahBeth says:

That is what I got too. It is 5/$9 or $1.80 each. In the Cub list it even states “These are $1.80 each this week at Rainbow when you purchase 5″ so must be a typo above.

    • Cindy P. says:

      Kierstien, I think you’re right too. 4 x $2.25 = $9.00 / 5 = $1.80 each

    • SarahBeth says:

Looks like the list has been fixed – Thanks!!

  10. Jennifer says:

The uncooked Johnsonville brat coupon from the paper is for the 3-lb party pack. The sale price is for the smaller packs.

  11. Cindy P. says:

The link for the Johnsonville coupon takes you to this…Save 55¢ on ONE(1) package of Johnsonville Breakfast Patties or Roll Sausage. Are you sure that will work on the Brats?

  12. Lisa says:

I had to run to Pick n save for a quick item this morning and I scoped out the kellog’s cereals. They were all priced at over $3 each – except for the coco krispies that were priced at $1.99 each – So if you buy 3 of those and use a $1/2 kellogs coupon and double it, plus the $5 back at the register instantly, it makes for a $1 money maker.

My biggest problem is finding only 5 coupons to double, I always have a hard time picking the “best” ones to double.

    • Amanda says:

I also stopped to check out the prices…the only ones that had tags were the big 24 oz boxes “family size” (I was looking specifically at special kay) As the stock boy was asking a manager about the other sizes for me, I noticed that only the largest size boxes of all of the other kellogg’s boxes were marked with the special Buy 3 get $5 tags. STock boy reported that only the largest sizes were part of the deal…Those were 4.59 each. Anybody know if the smaller ones are really included? I’d love to purchase just the littler boxes!

      • Lisa says:

Several of the “regular” sized cereals had the tags on it at my pick… including the 1.99 coco krispie one I was looking at..

    • Rachel says:

      Lisa,

You can split your order into 2 orders of $25 or more so you can get up to 10 coupons doubled that way. Remember that the $25 is before sales and coupons so it’s often not difficult to reach that threshold. Now you don’t have to pick the 5 best deals.

  13. SarahBB says:

Would the Man Q for $2 off Coke products in Cub flyer work with the RB Coke deal this week?

    • SarahBeth says:

Since the Cub coupon is a MFR coupon it COULD work – but many people have had trouble with this in the past (using Cub MFR coupons at Rainbow). I think I’m still going to try though and report back – can’t hurt to try!

      • SarahBB says:

You Go, SarahBeth!! Because if it works, wouldn’t that be 5 (12) packs for $7 ??

        • Aira says:

I used the Cub coupons at Maple Grove this morning to get $2 off four twelve packs of Coke and free Hillshire farm sausage.

    • SarahBeth says:

It worked!!! My Shoreview Rainbow took the $2 MFR coupon from the CUB ad.

  14. Whitney says:

QUESTION: At rainbow, they run sales that state 2 items for 1 price. For example; the 2 Steamers vegetables for $3. I notice you list the sale item as the per item price ($1.50.) Do you only buy the one item, or 2? Do you receive the sale price of $1.50 if you only purchase one item vs 2 packages?

    • Kerri says:

Whitney, Yes! You will get the sale price even if you purchase one item.

    • SarahBeth says:

Yes, on a “X for $X” sale if you only purchase one you will still get the sale price. For example, when there is a “10 for $10″ sale I rarely ever buy ten items – when I only buy one I am only charged $1 (this applies at Cub, Rainbow and Target but NOT at Walgreens).

However, the B1G1 sales listed above also show a per item price (like Yoplait and Chex Mix in the list above) and I’m pretty sure you need to buy 2 in order to get the discount in this case right?? (what I mean is, you won’t just get 50% off if you only buy one will you?) I think Carrie just lists it this way so that each of us can determine if this is a “good price.”

  15. kim says:

I am new please help! When I clink on the links to printable coupons I am often sent to coupons.com but cannot find the coupon. I have also been sent to sites that have a coupon but not for the right product (like the johnsonville brats link that has a coupon for breakfast sausage or roll sausage). Where am I going wrong? Thanks Kim

    • SarahBeth says:

In regards to the Johnsonville coupon, I am not exactly sure why Carrie put that coupon in her list. I think it may be a mistake. I do not think you should be able to use a summer sausage coupon for brats. Carrie has this coupon in her list, and the register MAY take it, but I always try to make sure the coupon matches the item I am purchasing.

In regards to coupons.com the coupons that are available for you to see usually vary by Zip Code (for marketing purposes). One thing you can try is to print from Carrie’s actual site/this page. On the top right of every page on PYD there is a coupon generator. Just click on “see all coupons” and maybe you will find the ones that Carrie is referring to. If not, then the coupon may not be available for your Zip Code.

      • Carrie Rocha says:

The brats coupon was there, but must have reached its print limit and has been taken offline. I printed a couple copies a few weeks back before they were gone.

  16. Kerri says:

The Welch’s 100% Juice link takes you to the Red Plum site and checking thru, I didn’t see one for it. Anyone else?

One find on the Red Plum site though, there’s a $1 off 2 Hillshire Farms smoked sausage, which is on sale 2 for $6 in the ad. So, with a doubled coupon, it would be $2 each. Probably not your buy price, Carrie, but I like to have these on hand, so it’s great for me!

    • Kerri says:

Oh, I wanted to clarify that yes, I did see the q for Hillshire Farms in the Red Plum add this week, but it has a do not double, where the one online does not say that.

    • Kerri says:

Found a Welch’s coupon on the Coupons.com site.

  17. Amanda says:

I was checking out the pizza deals…and right on the freezer door were blinkie coupons for $1.00 off of californiz pizza kitchen flatbread melt which are on sale for 2.00. They do say DND, but start with a “5″.

  18. Dawn M says:

Anyone know on the Johnsonville brats if that coupon will work? I only see the one and it is for sausage.

  19. Hope says:

The McCormick grinders and many of the other spices were 1.14 with the 50% off sale, so a potential MM if you use the $1/1 4/25 RP coupon!

  20. Melissa says:

The Kraft Shredded cheese is 3.29 for 8 ounces. So that would make it 2.29 for 8 ounces after the doubled coupon?! Since the Ritz crackers are free if you buy 2 pkgs of cheese, does anyone consider this a good deal?

    • KT says:

Carrie would say that the cheese is worth $1.00 each, so if you consider $2.58 a good price for the Ritz, then it’s good. I don’t.

    • Kristi says:

If you think about the price of lunchables $1.00 if you hit a sale and I have 4 kids so it is $4.00 for 1 lunch or snack time than yes it is a good deal, I got 2 packs of cheese, 3 packs of ritz and 4 packs of bagged pepperoni which was on sale for .99 then had $1.00/2 coupons next to it so I got 4 packs free and had $1.00/2 ritz and the $1.00/2 cheese
I paid $9.72 for all that and I have way more than 4 lunchables worth!

  21. SarahBB says:

I’m missing the really awesome deals of winter/early spring–lately, I have been** gasp** shopping at Cub again!

  22. peg says:

I thought I saw that this week is 10 doubled coupons. Did anybody else see this?

  23. Chelle says:

Anyone know why I’d be having issues printing Smart Source coupons? It always cuts off the date when it prints. What gives? I can’t use these coupons can I? This happens a lot to me with SS coupons :(

  24. The Happy Shopper says:

This morning I found yellow hanging coupons for .35 off of any one size of open pit BBQ, which is .57 with in ad coupon this week. Use both coupons for .22 BBQ Sauce!!!

  25. Chris says:

The buy4 get one free 12 pack coupon worked for me along with the $2 off when you buy 4 12 pack from the cub ad. 5 for 7.99

    • Lisa says:

      Me too!

      • Amanda says:

I’m sad…no cub anywhere near me to get the coupons…oh well…still got GREAT deals today, I’m so excited!

    • SarahBeth says:

Can you please share which stores accepted the Cub coupon?

      • Erika says:

The Rainbow in Forest Lake let me use both the $2 off coupon and free Hillshire brats because both are Manufacturer coupons, so I got 5 (12) packs, 1 pack of Hillshire brats(3.99) for $7. That’s a little over a dollar for each item!

    • Erin says:

The Quarry wouldn’t accept the Cub $2 manufacturer q. I asked the cashier and customer service. They claimed that Rainbow’s promotion was buy 4 get 1 free and Cub’s promotion was $2 off. She said I could use either the buy 4 get 1 free OR the $2 off. She said that they do not accept competitor q’s, but they would accept a manufacturer coupon with a Cub logo, just not in this particular case (unless I was willing to skip the buy 4 get 1 free coupon). I guess it makes sense and I didn’t feel it was worth $2 to go to battle over it.

  26. Erika says:

The Gerber 2nd foods are a decent deal this week. They are priced at $10/10 and I had a bunch of Gerber coupons for $.75/4, so it made them a little over $.60/ea.

Also, I tried to use my Walgreens RR at the Plymouth Rainbow (494/Rockford) this morning and they wouldn’t take them. She said if it is for a specific product, they will take another store’s manufacturer’s coupons, but not for a dollar amount off the order. I know another poster was able to use hers at this store so it must vary based on your cashier.

  27. Karen says:

I am new to shopping at Rainbow. I think I have read where some people go through the line twice to have two transactions to get 10 double coupons. Is that legal or is it frowned on?

    • Kathy says:

I did 2 transactions today one right after the other. I was very organized and had everything separated and ready to go before I got to the register with just a few items in each order to reach $25. The pop is over 1/2 that on it’s own so I only added 5 double coupon items to that order and the other order had about 10 things. It was no problem whatsoever and because I was so organized it was probably quicker than the average shopper doing only 1 transaction.

    • JoannaV says:

Its perfectly fine to go through the line more than once. If you do back-to-back orders just be courteous of the shoppers behind you in line and don’t do more than 2 back-to-back. Just remember you have to spend $25 each time to double 5 coupons.

    • Mary says:

I have trouble keeping my coupons straight… which goes into which pile to qualify for $25 pre-coupons.

It is much less stressful for me to do 2 trips, dry goods, household things the first time then I go out to my car. Frozen and refrigerated 2nd time. A few extra minutes of time, but much less stress for me!

      • bridey says:

Hope this helps – When I write out my list, I usually go from the ad, or this site, so I have all the amounts, and the coupons I’ll be using. I star or highlight the ones that will double. I make one master list of what I want, then divide it into envelopes, with the list for each envelope and the coupons for each shop, staying as close to the $25.00 threshold as possible and using five coupons.

I can see at a glance that the dollar amount is right or wrong. I generally only buy from the sales, so this works well for me. (Usually I round off.) I can see here that I need to take the milk and strawberries and move them to a second shop, because I’m way over my $25.00, and I need to find a low dollar item with another coupon, so I have a total of five.

(I bring along any alternate coupons in case they are out of something so I can still use five.)

Item Number Cost Total Coupon Pay
        Milk 2 $1.98 $3.96 (limit 2 store coupon) $3.96
        Yoplait Delight 2 $2.00 $4.00 $1.00* 1.00* $0.00
        Jacks Pizza 3 $1.98 $5.64 $1.25/3 plus st coup $4.39
        Calif Pizz Ind 2 $1.88 $3.76 $1.00* $1.00* ($.24)
        Strawberries 2 $1.49 $2.98 (limit 2 store coup) $2.98
        Coke 5 $9.00 $2 Cub $7.00
        Hillshire Farm 1 $3.00? Cub Free $0.00
        ——– ———
        $32.34 $18.33

        • Amanda says:

bridey—I do my list similar. I start with my 5 double coupons, then continue to list cheap things and finish with the “filler” items to get as close to $25. Then I start a new list with 5 more coupons at the top. I sometimes have a hard time getting to $25…so my husband likes to suggest “well, if you need to get to $25 you could buy me xyz….

If I get a coupon for a free item (ex: free 4 pack yogurt) I almost always use it at pick n save to help me get up to $25. Fresh produce is also an excellent filler.

I also seperate my coupons into envelopes based on each transaction. I like to use envelopes that I get from junk mail or leftover church offering envelopes.

      • bridey says:

I do that, put anything that doesn’t need to be cold in my first shop, take it to the car, then the cold things together for a second

    • Kristi says:

I think I seen on here you’re allowed 6 or 7 transactions on your rainbow perks cards

    • Brenda P says:

I’d echo what others have said. If I do two transactions at once I try to make sure the first one is very small (just a few items), and that it is all organized ahead of time. I usually buy two gallons of Organic Valley organic milk each week. That means I have a good start on my $25 transaction for the first transaction.

  28. dime time says:

i’m surprised that nobody has mentioned the B1G1 deal on organix shampoo/conditioner, etc.

it’s B1G1 this week, and if you’re lucky, there’s a rebate form attached to bottles of organix, meaning you’re getting two free after rebate. (there were rebate forms at the richfield rainbow this morning.)

i saw the organix rebates at walgreens a week or two ago, grabbed one, and figured i’d wait for the right week to make the purchase. i didn’t need a $6.99 organix purchase to make my $25 today, (coca-cola alone nearly does it,) but when it’s two free, the time seemed right.

    • Melissa says:

Dime time I think the Organix deal has been out for awhile so thats why it wasn’t mentioned. I love those kinds of deals!!

      • dime time says:

good point. i do recall that it’s an old rebate. if you haven’t taken advantage of it, this seems to be the week to do it.

  29. Ruth W says:

I was able to use the get a free Hillshire Farms sausage product Q from the Cub ad at my Rainbow this AM along with the get one free Coke Q from Rainbow. I did not try to use the $2 off as well (that would have been a stellar deal) but I didn’t want to tempt the coupon police. I felt I got a great deal anyway!

  30. Kirsten says:

in the produce section at the MG Rainbow, there is a Kraft dressing display with $1.00 off produce with purchase of two Kraft dressings. With $2/4 and Q’s, this was a good deal. My cashier doubled the $1 off.

    • bridey says:

Kraft has a catalina this week.

buy Kraft Dressing, 16 oz or larger between 5/21 and 6/27. buy 2 get $1.00, buy 3 get $2, buy 4 or more, get $3 on a future shopping order

  31. sara says:

I just have to tell you all that I LOVE Rainbow Savage. They are soooo nice there every week!

  32. terri says:

Returned from Rainbow with the following deals: 5 cs of soda, 4 Calif/DiGiorno pizza, 1 Hillshire Farms sausage, 1 Open Pit BBQ sauce > for $4.09 (tax .53) total $4.62. There are tear tab Q’s on end cap display of the Coke products for $1.00 off coke w/ $4 purchase of frozen food. Needed to think on my toes and change my shopping list in midstream. So it came out to be $2.00 off each case of the 4 sodas when i bought 4 pizzas, also using 1 Q (doubled) for one of the pizzas and 3 $1.00 Q for the other 3 pizzas(not doubled). Also used Cub Q for the Hillshire Farms which took off $3.00. And then of course the .57 Open Pit. I was more than happy to pay 20 cent for each 12pk of Coke. I will go back on saturday and do that same transaction if there are coupons left. Yes people, i saved enough to go around.

  33. terri says:

Oops, forgot to mention one thing. Saw a catalina non-coupon advertising the following Kraft deal. Buy Kraft Salad Dressing (16 oz or larger) between 5/21 to 6/27, buy 2 get $1, buy 3 get $2, buy 4 or more get $3.off future purchase. Anybody think it would be helpful to save a page devoted strickly to catalinas? I vote YES.

    • Laura Wales says:

Terri – Thanks for letting us know. Carrie and I do try to keep track of the catalina deals that people send us and include them in the lists, but we may miss a few on occasion. We encourage everyone to email us with the details whenever you get a catalina non-coupon printout. Your suggestion is noted! :)

  34. Mary says:

    Coke deal:
I went to the Blaine Rainbow today 2 times…I was able to use the Rainbow ad coupon and the Cub MFG. coupon for $2. (this was in the AM) with no problem. Purchased $50 worth of groceries.

The next time I went I went in the later afternoon as my sister pointed out the Hillshire deal which I wanted to try to see if it would work. They refused it and so did the customer service as they said I was lucky to get it the first time. I just wanted to clairfy the rules so I knew what they were and she said sometime it works and other times it doesn’t. Purchased only the pop.

So I am still confused as to why it worked one time and not the other. Not sure if it had something to do with how much I spent. My niece wanted to also get some and wanted to purchase some sunscreen with a coupon and it wouldn’t accept that coupon along with her pop…weird so not sure if it was just not working.

    Any ideas?

  35. Rebekah L. says:

The DiGiorno Deep Dish (personal size) pizzas are on sale for $2 each, and there was a Q in the 5/16 SS (I think) for $1/1. Had 3 Q’s, got 3 pizzas free.

  36. Cari says:

Here’s a couple deals I came up with yesterday and I wanted to share!
If you have the eat better america coupon booklet from General Mills, you can get:

#1 Fiber One Bars they are on sale I think 4/$9. So, I had a coupon for $1 off 2 boxes.
Bought 2 boxes @ 4.50 (2.25 ea) with double coupon, I got them for 2.50 or 1.25 ea

#2 Big bag 19-24 oz (?) Green Giant Frozen Vegetables on sale for 2/3. I bought one at 1.50 and had a .50 coupon, so after double coupon only .50

Hope someone else can use these!!

  37. Shannon Scherz says:

I found that the cereal deal at Rainbow wasn’t worth it to me. It was only on the HUGE boxes of cereal at over $4 each.

However, I did get some really good deals… The coupons I had doubled were: 2 creamer coupons, Jacks Pizza and 2 Hamburger Helper coupons. I had a couple other coupons that weren’t multiplied. My overall total was $30.06… and my savings were $46.27. I saved well over what I actually spent! YAY!
