Our Boy Scout Troop does a service project with Fort Snelling National Cemetery. We hand out programs and poppies. Then after the Memorial service we help take down the chairs from the event and then as a ‘reward’ or privilege the boys get to raise the national cemetery flag from half mast to full. Our troop has been doing this for over 25 years. The memorial service starts at 10:00 and lasts about an hour. The boys usually get to talk with the governor, congressmen/senators and veterans for a few minutes afterward. It’s very nice to see the boys talk with people who served in WWII (not many left) and Korea, Vietnam, etc. This year after that we are heading for Fort Snelling to have a picnic and enjoy the day’s activities there.

Memorial Day seems to be a good day to go thrift store shopping.

Savers has 50% off all clothing, shoes, accessories, and bed & bath items.

Goodwill stores will have 50% off all blue, green, and yellow tagged items, plus furniture.

Unique Thrift is also often 50% off on Memorial Day, though I can’t find any confirmation right now that’s the case.
