Huge Flower, Plant and Tree Sale With Lifetime Guarantee

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

I’ve divulged numerous times that I am not a green thumb of any sort, although my mom and aunts are amazing gardeners. Maybe I should go to Home Depot’s free Eco-Gardening Workshop in a few weeks to learn a few things, huh?

Last year though, I discovered Spring Hill Nursery when I shared a now-expired, but awesome save $25 on $25 purchase promotion. I signed up for that deal, just to be sure it worked for readers, but it landed me on Spring Hill Nursery’s email newsletter. I’ve been watching their sales all spring long, waiting for a great one to share with you.

Problem is, that I don’t know too much about the price of plants. But, I have been reading online trying to get a wee bit smart and *think* these are deals worth mentioning, although the two sales are not stackable so you have to choose one or the other.

Before I get to the deals, let me tell you that a key reason I’ve taken an affinity to Spring Hill Nursery is that they offer an amazing guarantee. Their guarantee states, “We guarantee all of our plants to be true to name and to reach you in perfect and healthy condition. If, for any reason, you aren’t pleased with any plant upon receipt, after planting or once it grows, just contact Spring Hill anytime–no time limit–for as long as you garden. No need to return any plant. We will refund every cent you paid for that plant or send a replacement without charge–whichever you prefer.” With that kind of commitment to quality, I feel good sharing them with you as a resource.

Now that I think more about it, the only problem with their guarantee is that it doesn’t cover gardening mishaps when people like me try and grow these beautiful flowers, plants and trees :)

I’ve purchased from Spring Hill before and find that you can do as well or better locally, especially if you shop at the St. Paul Farmer’s Market. The plants from Spring Hill are often bare root which I think can be a little trickier to get established, the varieties are not anything unusual, and the prices are equal or more expensive to a potted plant. And shipping will add back more than half of that $25 savings.

If you do want to order online I find bluestoneperennials.com to be a better value. And much of their inventory is 50% off at present, AND when you receive your order you’ll get all sorts of freebie coupons for your next order.

I also buy most of my plants and veggies at the St. Paul Farmer’s Market. This weekend I got tomato plants for $3 each and pepper plants for $2.50 each. I have bought tomato plants from the same vendor for at least five years and they are amazing – they produce tons and the tomatoes are all delicious. The farmer and his family know all about each variety and can help you find exactly the kind you’re looking for. Look for the Adelmann stall.

Plus during the month of May you can get free coffee and a donut with the coupon found at PYD!

I am an avid gardener and I would not recommend Spring Hill to my worst enemy. If you are interested in garden shopping online, davesgarden.com has a section that rates the different online nurseries. I agree bluestone is awesome and I love St. Paul Farmer’s Market. But, the best place to get perennials is at local plant sales. Check craigs list or watch for signs in your neighborhood.

I just bought a few tomoato plants at Lynde’s on Co Rd 30 this afternoon for $1.49/each. Not sure how that price compares to other prices.

Last year I went to the Mpls Farmer’s Market and bought a potted annual beought it home and realized it had a Lynde’s sticker on it. So this year I decided to go and check Lynde’s out since it almost in my back yard.

Really tough to beat the prices at Lowes. If you have a green thumb check out the “distressed” racks.

Regardless of where you get them, a patient person who buys discounted perennials/shrubs after they peak (past bloom) will be amply rewarded next year.

My favorite (and free) perennials come from friends’ and neighbors’ gardens and seeds. They gladly clean their gardens and split perrenials and pass them on. It seems if a gardener knows you’re looking to expand or start a garden, they are more than willing to share! Of course, option B is to wait until the late summer, early fall and get the perrenial garden started them with clearanced plants at many local stores. If you’re a Gertens (Inver Grove Heights) fan, they have a clearance section where you can find many plants/bushes and trees clearanced all year long.

  7. Amy says:

I am an avid freecycle user and have filled in around our house with free hostas and daylillies this year.

  8. Marlene says:

I too like the Farmers Market. Also Gertens in Inver Grove Hts, has everything you could ever want for your yard and garden. They might be a little higher but the guarantee everything.

  9. Sarah says:

Just a heads up for everyone for next year. At the state fair grandstand each year the Friends School of Minnesota holds a plant sale. They have an awesome selection of annuals, perennials, and trees for sale and the prices are fantastic. All the profits from the sale go to funding scholarships for students.
