Half Price Books is jumping on the summer reading program bandwagon with their Feed Your Brain program that runs from June 1-July 31.
Kids age 14 and under can earn a $3 Half Price Books shopping card for each week they read at least 15 minutes a day for 5 days. Just get a reading log at Half Price Books for each child or download and print your own. Check off each day your child reads for at least 15 minutes, then sign the form and bring it in to Half Price Books to receive the reward. Limit one shopping card per week, per child. They even have reading tips for kids on their site to help kids find opportunities to read throughout the day.
Find a Half Price Books location near you and get your kids ready to read! For more activities you can do with your family this summer, check out our Summer 2010 tag.
Your turn: Have your kids participated in this program before?

Both my grandson’s love to read so I have been looking for summer reading programs. Bless you for sharing! Love, GPA
We did this last summer and I can’t TELL you how many books we acquired! If you go to the back of the store, they have a clearance section, when books are $1….you come home with a bunch! I have 3 kids and sometimes we’d get 9 books to take home! Sometimes they’d choose a coloring book or a ‘MadLibs’…but overall, it just became a fun place to go each week!
This is so great! However, I’m not able to follow the link to print my own… Thanks again for another great find!
Mary – I think the link should work now. Let me know if it doesn’t, OK?
I have a two year old and am glad to see reading programs that are for her age too. I plan to participate in Borders and Half Priced Books even though it’ll be a 40-50 mile drive for us. Reading is so important.
Is there a minimum age requirement? I see the “grade (entering this fall)” and wondering if there is an age minimum due to that spot on the form. I have two preschoolers and a two-year old.
Thanks so much…it worked for me :) My kids are very excited for this!
We also did this last year and got SO much free stuff! Books, workbooks, DVDs, even! I’m so excited they are doing it again this year. This is our new favorite store–hubby and I even like to go there on dates just to browse. :-)

Don’t forget that Half Price books also has 20% off everything now through Memorial Day!
I’m just an auntie, so, no, my kids have not participated in this program. But I think it sounds wonderful!! My all-time favorite hobby is reading (ever since childhood), and HPB, my favorite store. I always make a beeline for the very back, where Paradise (aka, The Clearance Section) is. Reading is SO crucial, even when it’s not assigned or required, throughout life. I wish there were a program like this for us grown-ups. :-D It makes me smile when I see kids buying books, or receiving rewards for reading. Awesome.
My 14 yr old will be happy about this one! She was really disapointed that Borders summer reading programe was too young for her. I called the Northtown location and asked if they have to be redeemed once a week and I was told no, you can bring a few weeks in at a time and you’ll get one $3 giftcard for each week. She also said that you can only use one card per purchase. So, kind of a bummer that you can’t “save up” for a larger priced item. I also suppose that we’ll have to watch the expiration dates….oh well, most of us here are used to doing multiple transacations!
Just made our first summer trip to Half Price Books… my 3 kids left with 14 books total… not a penny out of pocket! There were a TON of $.50 paperbacks in the clearance section, and they do not even charge you tax!
