Cub Foods Shopping List 5/23 – 5/29/10

May 23, 2010 53 Comments

This content uses referral links. Read our disclosure policy for more info.

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Cub Foods shoppers, please pay special attention to the two Buy This, Get That promotions running this week as many of the products overlap with the $10 Kraft Delicious Summer Savings mail-in rebate. There is a fabulous deal idea at the very bottom of this list that requires purchase of just one more low-cost item.

Since Cub Foods’ stores accept manufacturer-issued coupons up to 3 months past their expiration date (and in some cases up to 5 or 6 months past) some of those referenced on this list are expired. If you are new to Pocket Your Dollars, then learn to read this shopping list. If you are having issues, troubleshoot problems printing coupons here.

Remember that this is a starting list of deals for the week. As readers leave comments with bargains they found at their local store, we get emails with deal ideas, or we read about other deals across the blogosphere, we will update this list. Items that are added throughout the week will be noted as NEW. Items whose final price changes as a result of a new or modified coupon scenario will be noted as UPDATED. At least once this week we will send out a reminder to come back and check this list for the hottest new deals.

FYI I saw in Wal Marts flyer that this week corn on the cob is $.19. It may be a better deal if the produce is good. I haven't always had good luck there but it may be worth a shot if you are already going there for something this week.

Target has corn for .25 per ear. I purchased some yesterday and ate it last night and it was pretty yummy for this time of year, especially!

I've been really disappointed in diaper prices lately. I think I'll stick with my Target namebrand for awhile.

Just a comment about the No Name Steaks, Chickens, Porkchops, and Fish…. My family loves the No Names, as they are the easiest to cook correctly and are always tender. $9.99 is a GREAT price for a box of them… yes, still a bit more pricey than buying other steaks, but they are a much better cut and cook so perfectly. Normally No Names run around $19.95 and I won't pay full price, because that is $3-5 per steak, but at $9.99, it cuts the price in half. My husband and I stock up on these all summer… buy 10-20 boxes in a variety of sizes, flavors, and meat types, and then use them all year (yes, we are the Minnesota Nuts who will grill at -10 degrees!). Even though we try to live frugally and watch our spending, we do "splurge" on the No Name brand… but only when they are on super sale in the summer!

We are also NO NAME fans in our house, we eat the No Name Salmon like its going out of style :) And I try to stock up when its on a great price like this! Also for those that get the "grill packs" there is usually a $1 off coupon for your next purchase (the last one I got said no expiration on it)

Like Becca, we splurge on the No Names when they go on sale. They do this about once a month though the summer and are worth every (sale) penny. Carrie, there are 4 salmon steaks in each box, and they're a decent size (6-8 oz?). We love the salmon especially because they're seasoned, individually packaged, and have the pop-out timer. All their boxed meats are individually packaged, so you never have a giant frozen blob.

Interesting question…my gut tells me that it should be fine, but then I think of other melons, cantaloupe in particular and remember them going bad rapidly. I'd advise not to chance it…there will be other sales.

It should be fine. I would, however, choose a watermelon that's on the unripe side. (This MAY compromise flavor, so if flavor is really important, Aldi often has cheap watermelons that you could buy closer to his birthday.) Look for more distinctive stripes on the melon, and a more solid thump when you tap it—that will let you know that it's not as ripe as other melons. Also, keep turning it every day (so no side gets too soft). I hope this helps.

I need clarification. I thought you could use expired wags at Cub since they say manufacturer coupon on them. I was at the New Brighton Cub last Friday and the clerk wouldn't take them. She also asked another "higher up" and she also said no. Is this different than before?

Thanks, will have to look at St Anthony, would go nicely with the five get $4 cat ( after cat would be $.20 each) and save the receipt for the rebate too.

Personally I think it's an awesome week with the kraft Catalina . Sometimes I just don't want to bother with figuring out doubles. I can have a very low oop with rolling the cats and pick up items that I really need… I have a hard time finding real cheese at a good price. No weird 100 cal cubes or the processed melt downs ewwwww.

I bought 2 Miracle Whips and 4 Kraft salad dressings and did not get the additional $4 catalina, but I did get the $3 catalina (because of the salad dressings). I also did the catalina deal on the back and maybe that's why the additional $4 didn't print (because it did for the other deal). Hope that makes sense, but I didn't want anyone to think they for sure would get the $4 catalina with the Miracle Whips and salad dressings. At the BP store, the Miracle Whip jars had $1/2 coupons which was really nice.

St Louis Park catalina— saw coupons attached to miracle whip/mayo. kraft barbecue sauce and salad dressings! the coupons the catalina deal and instant savings even sweeter.the bbq had 25 cents the salad dressings had 35 cents and the mayo had 50 cents. these were bright yellow peelies attached to the bottles/jars.

Hey a suggestion for those people who like certain products that cub doesn't carry— like the marcal small steps— great coupons but cub doesn't carry. since cub food takes expired there would be some great $2 expired coupons on a 4 pack of small steps! if enough people write cub foods corporate to request they carry marcal small steps (good for environment, recycled tp)- then maybe cub will start carrying! what a great coupon to use and marcal seems to put these out periodically.

you can email cub at http://www.cub.com/emailus.jsp and suggest they carry the marcal small steps tp and whatever else you like… or just email them and tell them you love their great sales lately! :)

what else would you like to see cub foods carry that is something coupons regularly come out on but cub doesn't carry?

the coupon listed for the johnsonville sale is for $1.50 off 3-pound packages, not the 20 oz. packages.

Yup the Johnsonville is only off the 3lb package

Kemps ice cream is $1 off 2 from 5/23 insert so on OK deal but not great.

If you want to use an expired coupon for the Johnsonville Brats I think there is a 55cents off one (any) in the 1/17SS

Molly – Yes, you're probably right. I've found that catalina deals (as these are called) usually ring up as buy x (or more), get $x…so if you buy more than the amount, it doesn't count toward a new $ off your next purchase.

I agree that is was a great week at Cub. I haven't been to Rainbow for a few weeks because of the Cub deals. A major change from the last few months for me. I loaded up on $0.20 crackers yesterday. Although I am still not sure how that will work with my Kraft rebate. Tough to say I have $10 in product when I ended up paying $1.

There is a double dip running on the Miracle whip/ mayo and salad dressing.

hmm, guess i already posted that?? LOL.

I did it today and works great!

But do make sure to separate the catalina offers or you will sadly not get them all. My sis figured that out the hard way today when she was shorted one $4 cat by mixing 5 wheat thins and the 4 salad dressing/ 2 Mayo.

Buy 6 dressing@ $1.69 (after the $3 instant), use peelies on products 35/1. Pay $8.04

Get $4 from the Kraft catalina

Get $3 from the dressing catalina

    Total oop = $1.04

Possible less if you have higher value coupons

    OR

Buy 2 Miracle Whip / Mayo, use $1/2 peelies (or two 50/1 peelies)

Buy 4 dressing, use 35/1 peelies

    Total after ($3 instantly) $10.74 – coupons = $8.34

    Get $4 Kraft cat

    Get $3 dressing cat

Total oop after cat = $1.34

Lots of tear pads and other coupons for $1/2 or 55/1 dressing would knock the price down further.

The key is 4 of the **salad dressing to get $3

Total of at least 5 of the Kraft cat items (which includes cheese, hot dogs, bologna/salami, crackers, crystal light, capri sun, * Mayo/ Miracle Whip, **salad dressing) to get $4,

6 featured items total to qualify for the $3 off instantly (bbq sauce, *mayo/miracle whip, **salad dressing, chips ahoy)

Thus these scenarios work to generate the $3 and $4 cats:

    4 dressing, 2 mayo

    6 dressing

5 dressing and 1 bbq sauce

5 dressing and 1 chips ahoy

Take note the BBQ sauce and Chips Ahoy will NOT generate any catalina coupons, they are NOT included in the buy 5 get $4 Kraft catalina promo.

    Happy shopping!

Tostitos chips and salsa is on sale for 2 for $5, use in ad store coupon for $1 off.

Look for $1/1 restaurant style chips peelies on bags

Total for both salsa and chip will be $3 total ( or $3.45 with 55/2 coupon )

Thanks Bernice – Since I know you have a sense of humor, I'll say that I had a momentary flashback to calculus class or something as I read your post. First this, then that. "Pay attention, Carrie, listen up, you CAN follow this." :) Thanks for taking time to detail it out in a very easy-to-follow way. I appreciate it A LOT!

No they won't accept them, they are Target coupons. Cub would accept them if they were mfg coupons.

Love some of the deals in the new cub booklet mailed out to us. If you printed the bryers ice cream coupons they have a bogo for bryers. Also tuna and I have a coupon that expired a couple of days ago that will make it an even better deal. It is 99 cents a pouch and coupon is $1/2 so it brings it to .50 ea. Be sure to watch your mail box and check out the coupons.

Watermelons will keep about 2 weeks if you keep them in a cool place. We always have lots watermelon in the fall from our garden and we just put them in the basement. We've kept them up to a month but after a couple of weeks they start to get grainy.

As far as picking an under ripe watermelon-watermelon don't continue to ripen after they have been picked. Look for one with a creamy to yellow bottom (which shows it was left on the vine lone enough to ripen) that has a hollow sound when you thump it. The heavier the watermelon for it's size the higher the water content.

Since the watermelon has a firm outer rind there is no need to keep turning to avoid a soft spot.
