Home Depot: Garden Coupons from Gardening Club

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Join Home Depot’s free Garden Club and you’ll be emailed gardening coupons throughout the season. Maybe even better than the coupons is the fact that an expert, yes a legitimate green thumb, will answer questions you email them within 24 hours. I need a lot more help than what an email or two to an expert can do for me, although I plan to try at least one potted tomato plant.

The first year we lived in this townhouse I had ambitious goals for our deck. I wanted it to look like my mom’s gardens growing up and so I got flower boxes, plants, and every gizmo and gadget (did I mention that this was while we were still getting into the $50,000 in debt we later got out of). It was a debacle and an eye sore. I swore off gardening from that point forward, but my dad always grows one or two tomato plants so I figure I should be able to do it too. We’ll see…I have grand plans for the red beauties at harvest. Homemade spaghetti sauce.

Side note – it has been awhile since I reminded you to open up a second email address that you use exclusively for signing up for these kinds of online groups. It will keep your primary email from getting too cluttered up.

I am trying out my first garden ever this year. I am using the U of MN Extension’s website for helpful tips on when to plant, what to plant and how to plant. It is very useful.

This is my first year to have a garden and I’ve been referencing the U of M’s extension website as well! Lots of great information on there.

Just a note. It takes a lot of tomatoes to make a batch of spaghetti sauce. I made spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce and tomato soup last year. But I was amazed at the number of tomatoes it took to make them. However the taste is also amazing.

Oh, homemade sauce is the best! I made it twice last year – for the first time & now I don’t want the canned…but it does take a lot of tomatoes – I plan on planting a lot of varieties. I think the different varieties lend to a richer tasting sauce.

Another great source for plants is coming up Mother’s Day weekend at the State Fairgrounds. * Friday, May 7, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. * Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
    * Sunday, May 9, from 12 noon-4 pm. (Half-price day). Last year, I only went on the half-price day and still picked up beautiful plants for a great price. There is a wristband system to get into the sale to ensure there is a flow into the sale. But once you’re in, it is worth the short wait. There is just so much to look at and PLENTY of stock available even on the last day/half-price day. The catalog is huge. You can view a PDF on the website. I highly recommend this sale.

I had my first garden last year. I planted “squash” and up came Zuchinni. I never knew that zuchinni is a type of squash:). But hey, I managed to grow zuchinni, lettuce and pumpkins for my toddlers (they loved picking them at Halloween!). I plan on doing the same this year too. I never knew all the wonderful things you can cook using zuchinni:)~
