Walgreens Shopping List 3/21 – 3/27/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

It’s looking like another good week at Walgreens. This week, you can get Colgate toothpaste, Huggies diapers, and Planters trail mix for free or cheap after using coupons and the Register Rewards program. If you’re interested in mail-in rebates, be sure to check out the Olay Quench Lotion deal below, too.

If you’re new to all of this, then learn how the Register Rewards program works and learn how to read this shopping list.

Helpful hint: Walgreens is the one store where an advertised sale like “2 for $4” usually requires you to buy two products. The first one rings at full price and the second product will ring at a lesser price to bring the total to $4, using our example. If you ever question whether you need to buy two to receive a sale price, ask the cashier to scan one item for you. If it rings at full price, then you know you need to buy two products. If it rings at the sale price, then you don’t.

So excited: got 3-20ct Dayquil, 1-24ct Nyquil, 2 pks Sudafed PE triple actions, and a box of Puffs tissues for $5.11 after coupons and Register Rewards today! We just got hit with spring colds/allergies, so perfect timing! Thank you so much!

  2. Dime Time says:

I should know this by now, but I don’t.

    Regarding this deal:
    Schick Quattro Disposable Razors $6.99
Use $2/1 coupon from the Walgreens March coupon booklet found in literature rack near the front door
Plus, use $4/1 coupon from the 3/21 Smartsource insert
    Final price: $0.99 after coupons

So, I will have two of those coupons tomorrow. One from my Saturday paper, one from my Sunday paper. Does the Walgreens March coupon automatically take $2 off each one I buy, or will it only take $2 off one purchase. I know this has been mentioned before, but I never remember the rule.

  3. Dime Time says:

    Regarding this deal:

Buy 3 Crest 3D White Rinse for $3 each, Get $3 Register Rewards
Buy 3 and use three $2/1 coupons from the 2/7 or 3/7 Procter & Gamble insert
Spend $3, get $3 Register Reward back
Final price: Three free after coupons and Register Reward

The coupons from the P&G appear to be for larger sizes than what is being advertised for sale at $3, meaning this deal wouldn’t work. Or am I wrong?

  4. Cindi says:

Where do I find the $1.50/1 Planters printable coupon previously available ?

  5. Sarah says:

I just attempted to print the Hunts coupon and it already says out of prints :(

  6. Kim says:

Orbit Wintermint rang up for 71 cents at the Rogers Walgreens. It wasn’t labeled at that price and I’m not sure if it is just at Rogers or at other Walgreens too. If you buy two and use the 1 dollar off coupon from the March Walgreen coupon book, each pack ends up being 21 cents a pack!

  7. Sara says:

Question: I just clicked to “Become a Fan” of Huggies on Face Book. I don’t see where you get the $3 coupon? Can anyone help? I left the page open.

    • MP says:

I clicked on the Little Movers tab and then clicked on the picture of Little Movers diapers which led to a link that I clicked on to get the coupon. Hope that helps! It wasn’t very clearly marked.

  8. Jana says:

I was looking for the Kotex coupon. What zip code do you use?

  9. Maryellen says:

Cindi, the planters coupon was listed in Walgreens sales last week. They ran out last week and says to check back but they are still not available.

  10. Angela II says:

On the walgreens website under additional weekly ads, there is a coupon for 3M Scotch Magic Tape $.79 limit 2 and then go here and print 2 $.50 off coupons for the donut dispenser. Final cost $.29 each

  11. chelle says:

The link is listed as their status. Click on that and you will find them. I did the huggies deal today and it rocked! Loved getting two planters trail mixes and for free plus a two dollar overage for the rest of my items. :-)

    I got:
    3 jumbo packages of huggies
    2 large crest prohealth mouthwashes
    2 planters trail mixes
    1 box lansinoh breast pads
    2 3Doral b toothbrushes
    toothpaste
    gauze

    for 6.60 OOP
    YAY!!!
    for

    • Sarah says:

How did you get the Huggies deal so good? I only buy Up & Up because the price per diaper is the best I’ve found on diapers around here. Even if I used the $3.00 coupon that I printed it still would cost more for the Huggies than my up and up. But you got 3 packs and more for 6.60. HOW? I’m so jealous! I am fine with my up & up diapers, they work great but if I can get other brands for even cheaper I will.

      • Sarah Beth says:

Sarah ~ I cannot speak for chelle, but using Carrie’s suggestion above you could get 3 jumbo packs this week for $5 each with the right coupons (or possibly $6 each if you do not have the activity book). But remember – if you buy 3 you will also get $5 RR back for your next purchase!! So this is “like you paid” $10 for 3 jumbo packs (or $13 for 3 packs without the activity book).

Chelle might be counting the RR in her OOP total, or else perhaps she used previous RR to pay? But I think if I read the deal correctly, someone brand new to PYD and brand new to Wags could get 3 jumbo packs this week for $18 and then $5 back for their next purchase.

      • Sam says:

I don’t shop at Wags very often, but I bought the Huggies diapers two days ago. They are on sale for $8.99 a pack. So for 3 packs, that is $26.97. If you print out 3 $3 off coupons, your total is brought down to $17.97 for 3. If you bought the activity book and have the coupon from it, that is an additional $3 off, bringing it down to $14.97 OOP. But, you get $5 RR back to use on items you would buy anyway, so that would mean you spent $9.97 on 3 packs of diapers. I buy size 4, so that puts me at less than $0.11 a diaper.

I hope this clears things up for you. As long as you use your RRs for things you would buy anyway, you are always saving money.

  12. Angela II says:

Here is another deal I put together:

Gillette Fusin Shave Gel- use the in-ad coupon for $2/5, Save $1 coupon from 2/7 P&G insert and the Buy one Fusion Prep get one Gillette Body wash Free coupon from 2/1 P&G insert. Final price is $1.50 for a can on gillette shaving cream and Body wash.

    • Dime Time says:

I read about this deal at A Full Cup late last night. It should have worked, but for some reason I didn’t get credit for the $1 coupons on the shave prep, which irritates me. End of the world? No, but I thought I was using coupons on a qualifying product, or am I wrong?

      • Angela II says:

it worked like a charm for me tonight.

        • Dime Time says:

it appears to be operator error on the part of the walgreens cashier. not sure how that happened…she probably thought she scanned the coupons when she was sorting them and verifying the qualifying purchases. good to know this will work for others.

      • Angela II says:

I did it tonight and it worked with no problems.

  13. Jennifer says:

I went to do the tape deal and the Walgreens coupon wasn’t going through…they had to price override and questioned using both coupons. 2 items and 3 coupons. Anyone else have this problem?

    • Angela II says:

The cashier had to manually ring the tape deal for me tonight, but he didn’t question having 2 manufacturer coupons with the walgreens coupon at all.

  14. Michelle says:

The 11″ Vanity Fair Plates (14 count package) is on sale through 3/27 for $1.99 each. This week these plates are BOGO Free. They will each ring up at $1.99 and when the cashier subtotals at the end, it takes off $1.99. Great deal for a nice disposeable plate. These are nice and sturdy for graduations, summer picnics and other gatherings!

    • jo says:

There is a $1 online couponf for vanity fair napkins. Are they included with the B1G1?

      • Michelle says:

Yes, the napkins are also BOGO free and are priced down to $1.99. I also found this rebate form. If you buy $20 worth of these products, you get a rebate for $5.00. Here is the link to the rebate form: http://www.gp.com/everydayessentials/rebate.html

        • Angela II says:

Does anyone know how the BOGO free are ringing up at the register? Sometimes the second item rings $.00 and sometimes they ring normally and deduct the price at the end. Just wondering how it will work for the rebate, since you have purchase $20 in product.

          • Michelle says:

Each item rang up at full price and then when the cashier hit subtotal, it took off the $1.99 at the end. I sent in my rebate today, so each package of plates will end up costing a little less than $0.75 with a few coupons that I had from inserts recently.

    • chelle says:

the vanity fair thing isn’t working for me. the plates are ringing up at 3.79 and plates at 2.99. I talked to the manager who claimed that they are BOGO but wouldn’t admit to the Megasaver thing.

  15. VC says:

Is the RR for Huggies rolling?

  16. Haila says:

I did the diaper deal today, and it was better than advertised! The Huggies Little Movers at Walgreens rung up at $5.47 each, instead of the $8.99 advertised. And I still got the RRs, as advertised. Combined with the $3 off coupons, this was an awesome deal.

Not sure if it was just that particular Walgreens (on Lexington Ave in Roseville) or systemwide. Worth passing on, though. Hope it works for others as well.

  17. Kristin says:

I just wanted to mention for the parents with a little older kids who use Huggies Good Nites that they are included in the above Huggies deal. They are mentioned in the Walgreens add as included, but were not marked as on sale at the store. They rung up at regular price, but the manager price adjusted them for me. The Huggies diaper coupons went through fine and I got the $5 Register Rewards…which the Manager was not sure I would get. This is an awesome price for those…better than when I found them 1/2 off at a 2nd hand kid’s store!

  18. chelle says:

I bought the little movers this morning in coon rapids and it was the 8.99 price for size 3.

  19. M says:

I didn’t have any luck trying to print Hunt’s coupon either.

  20. Susan says:

Colgate $0.75 coupon not available any more.

  21. Rebecca says:

I also got a fairly good deal on Oscar Mayer bacon:
    On sale for 2/$6
    use 2 $0.75/1 coupons from 3/21 Smartsource
buy 2 and get $1 Register Rewards
final price $1.75 each after coupons and RR. Not the cheapest I’ve ever gotten bacon, but good enough if someone needs it this week.

  22. Sarah Beth says:

Has anyone had luck using 2 coupons on the Quench deal? My store never lets me use a coupon for the “free” item so wondering which Wags you’ve been successful at.

    • Rick says:

I had no luck trying this at Burnsville WAG

    • Liz says:

I was able to do the Quinch deal with two coupons at the Brooklyn Park, MN location. Hope that helps! :)

    • Sarah says:

I was just at the Chanhassen one and the manager actually had to find the Quench lotion and then he couldn’t find any of the “free” body wash and didn’t know why so he gave me my choice of $4.99 Olay body wash for the free item. I tried to use both the $1 off coupons but the cashier explained since the one is free she couldn’t do that. Since they were so nice to find it in the first place and let me choose a different free one I didn’t argue.

  23. Dawn M says:

Where is the vanity fair coupon? Is it just for napkins or plates as well? I would love to find a coupon for the plates.

  24. Dime Time says:

I doubt the coupon technically matches the freebie, but the woman at my mom’s Walgreens last night just did a manual override when the register beeped at her. Even if a store accepts a coupon on a freebie, they don’t appear to match up in this case.

  25. Jenny says:

What does everyone consider a rock bottom price for shaving cream? We go through a lot of it at this house because my husband shaves everyday…I typically shoot for $1 or less, but am I still paying too much?

  26. Taylor says:

can you tell me if I use my $5 RR I received from the huggies deal to purchase more Huggies, do you get another RR?

  27. amy says:

    Taylor,
No you don’t get another set of Register Rewards.

  28. Taylor says:

Thank you! I appreciate your help.

  29. Sam says:

I bought the huggies diapers this morning, and used the coupon from the activity book along with 3/$3 off coupons, but the third $3 off coupon would not go through. It was beeping at us. I gave her a $2 off I had from the previous sale, and it beeped also, but she went ahead and put through anyway. Why was it not working?

    • Sarah Beth says:

I think this varies by store but your store may have counted the activity book coupon as a “coupon”. If you bought 3 packs and tried to use 4 coupons the register may beep. This is what I have found at my store. I need to find a “filler” in order to use the activity book coupon in addition to 3 other coupons.

      • Sam says:

That is what I thought, so I bought a pack of skittles and 2 snickers so that i could use the $0.50/2 coupon. I don’t know what was wrong with it. Do you have to give coupons in a certain order? Thanks.

        • Sarah Beth says:

I always give the MFR coupons first and then the Wags coupon. But my Wags coupons always count so I always need a filler.

  30. Crystal says:

Did anyone have luck finding coupons for Kotex?? I couldn’t find them :( Thanx for any help offered!

  31. Rhonda says:

Jimmy Dean Biscuit Breakfast Sandwiches are 2/$4 this week, use your coupon from Red Plums 03/14/10 (fairly certain of this date) insert for $1.00 off any sandwich, then they will be $1. They come two in a box. (just watch your expire dates on these, I found the Elk River Walgreen’s had expire dates way out, but have heard from others that some Walgreen’s are selling sale items that have expired dates)

  32. Christie Sweely says:

The Vicks deal did not work for me….the second $1.50 off coupon beeped and they would not take it….oh well :)

  33. Heather says:

    Hey Everyone!

I just found out about this site through friends a couple of days ago and was blessed to hear Carrie speak at my MOPs group today.

Today I went out on my first trip and bought the 3 packs of Huggies with sales and coupons for $3.65 each. I couldn’t locate the Walgreens Children’s Activity Book (and neither could the sales associate). I was however able to use the 3 $3/1 coupons plus I had a $2.50 coupon and they used it as well.

On top of that I read an earlier comment about Renpure Organic Shampoo and was able to get the B1G1 deal and I am mailing in my rebate tomorrow so that I in return I will have gotten $13.98 worth of shampoo absolutely FREE!

Thank you so much to everyone for sharing all of this WONDERFUL information!

  34. Linda P. says:

The Walgreens customers above are lucky because their cashiers took the coupons and manually entered them in the cash register when the register beeped. My Walgreens will not do that. If the coupon makes the register beep, they say “It’s not taking it.” They do nothing about it. Just a couple weeks ago I bought 2 Reach toothbrushes, and I used 2 identical Reach coupons saying $1 off a Reach toothbrush. The register took one and beeped at the other. The cashier told me the register is not taking that one. I explained the toothbrushes were identical and the coupons are identical. She didn’t seem to care. I do not like my Walgreens. I try to avoid it when possible and go other places. I have found that I can use my Register Rewards at my grocery store though. It makes it much easier than using them at Walgreens. I use them just like money and they don’t limit how many they take. Walgreens counts them as a “coupon” and then you can’t use a manufacturer coupon also or the register beeps, or you need to pick up more items so you have one “coupon” per item.

    • Rhonda says:

I only buy what is truly a “good deal” at Walgreens. You can’t get wrapped up in getting Register Rewards by purchasing things you don’t need or won’t use. If I have to use up my RR’s at the grocery store I do, or I buy milk, bread and eggs at Walgreens to use them up.

      • Dime Time says:

i tried to buy milk with a RR once, and they told me it’s on the list of no-nos for purchase with a RR. the manager gave me some convoluted explanation, which defied logic. somehow they couldn’t let me use my “like cash” to buy milk, and she claimed it had something to do with government pricing or something like that. it’s OK for wags to put milk on sale, but not let me use my “like cash.”

if i ever hear a store associate tell anyone a RR is “like cash,” i tell them it’s not, and they shouldn’t say it. i’ve never had problems spending cash, but i’ve had a ton of issues trying to redeem “like cash.”

  35. Lisa says:

Which grocery stores take the WAGS RR’s?

  36. Lisa says:

The Olay Quench lotion and body wash worked perfectly! However, couldn’t get the Scotch tape to work (I even had fillers and it still wasn’t working). The WAGs cashier was super nice and very patient. He even tried to manually key it in and that still didn’t work… Oh well, I was super excited about the Olay deal…

  37. Jaime says:

Hey Girls. My kids are out of diaper, but I have a baby shower coming up. I printed 2 $3.00 coupons, had a $3 off wipes. ****Special note***** On the shelf (the curved down part that normally has the price/desciption on, had a insert about 12 inches long It said “buy any 2 the register will automatically take an addition $2.00″.) -F.L. Wags. I brought both up front and it didnt ring up correctly, I showed the cashier what I was talking about and he said it posted so they will honor it. And he didnt take the strip down. It showed pampers, luv, and huggies ($2 add. off). So my diaper were 4.99 X2 and a big bag of wipes for 2.99, plus $5 RR. Not bad for the start of a baby shower basket!

  38. Linda P. says:

Lisa you were asking which grocery stores takes Walgreens Register Rewards. I use mine at my Pick n Save. I asked them because at the top of the Register Rewards it says “manufacturer”, and Walgreens always treats them like coupons. That is one reason they are hard to use at Walgreens because I always use manufacturer coupons from my paper or the internet on almost everything I buy. Walgreens has the policy of one coupon per item, so if I am using a manufacturer coupon from the paper and a Register Reward to pay, it will not work unless I add another “no coupon” item to my order. Because they are so hard to use, I use them at my grocery store instead. I asked at customer service and they said yes they accept them. When I checked out the cashier did question whether they took them. They asked again at customer service who told them yes. You might want to ask customer service at your grocery store.

  39. Naomi says:

I found Vanity Fair coupons in the 3/14 RP. Sorry if this is a repost.

  40. Theresa says:

Just wanted to let everyone know a manager told me that pencils are 9 cents and are the cheapest item in the store if you need fillers to be able to bring up your item total to use more coupons.

  41. Carol says:

Just went to Walgreen’s to get the deal you mentioned above on Renpure shampoo. That worked out great. I also found another shampoo with a tag saying its free after rebate. I snapped that one up, too. The brand was Organix shampoo.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Carol – Thanks for the tip on Organix. Last year I saw those rebate forms, but haven’t in a long time. Can I ask, where were you shopping? What city, state?

  42. Sara says:

I didn’t read all the comments, but I wanted to let everyone know that the new Walgreens across from Eden Prairie Center has a $3 off a $10 purchase grand opening special thru Saturday. THe cashier had the coupon. I was pretty happy!
